Chapter 102: A Well-Intentioned Reminder
Page 1/3
Chu Chuo was just about to open the door for some fresh air. Having just finished her makeup and feeling bored, she clipped a cigarette and held it between her lips. At this moment, her short black hair paired with the costly, gleaming mother-of-pearl earrings exuded an air of arrogance. Clad in a studded leather jacket, embracing a dark and edgy style, she skillfully took a drag, her phoenix-like eyes flickering with a provocative, rebellious spirit.
Since that day when Lin Zhiwei had reminded her, Chu Chuo had evidently been intensifying her fitness routine. Her figure had become leaner and more toned, her slender form casually leaning against the doorframe with effortless grace.
Chu Chuo spotted Lin Zhiwei approaching and narrowed her phoenix eyes, leisurely blowing out a smoke ring. Through the hazy veil of smoke, her smile was like a blooming red spider lily thriving amidst dark thorns—both enchanting and untamed.
“Although you threw vodka in my face...” Chu Chuo’s eyes shifted slightly as she let out a low chuckle, “What you said isn’t wrong. Be careful after your debut. This is... a friendly reminder.”
Lin Zhiwei had no intention to respond but, seeing his straightforwardness, acknowledged the gesture with a faint nod. “Thanks. Good luck with your debut.” With that, she passed him by.
Chu Chuo felt a subtle fragrance brush past him. Though it was just six words, the seemingly casual encouragement stirred an unexpected tightness in his chest. He had thought she would ignore him or retort like she did at the dinner table, but instead, it was an unguarded blessing—perhaps... it could be called a blessing.
He crushed the cigarette, mocking the strange flutter in his heart just now. Lin Zhiwei was always full of surprises. In such a short time, every facet of her was unpredictable: mysterious, thrilling, cunning, free... No single word could truly capture her essence. Even up close, one could never truly anticipate her next move.
In his years navigating the entertainment industry, he had never seriously rehearsed; many roles were replaced or dubbed by others, yet he still received high praise.
Though criticism and ridicule were constant, his fanbase had grown steadily. He didn’t need to exert much effort; with his looks and the name Chu Chuo, countless fans would support him.
Yet after Lin Zhiwei’s few simple words at the bar entrance that day, he suddenly felt a strong urge to perform well this time—to finally defeat Ling Ziheng. Perhaps... those lively, cold eyes would linger on him for a moment.
He convinced himself it was only to ensure his boss’s advertising investment paid off smoothly at the debut, not because of that girl. But deep inside, a voice roared incessantly—he was jealous of Ling Ziheng, painfully so.
Lin Zhiwei noticed subtle changes in Chu Chuo but clearly understood that maintaining balance on two fronts was currently his best survival strategy. Regardless of his nature and past, judging from recent encounters, he seemed to be watching the winds and was unlikely to make a move against her. So, it was best to let things be.
Though arrogant, Chu Chuo was not as overbearing and reckless as Ye Linyun. He was simply accustomed to being at the top, adored by many. The entertainment industry was survival of the fittest; a detached observer who welcomed challengers was his best defense.
Thinking of this made Lin Zhiwei feel profoundly lonely. Outwardly, everyone appeared glamorous, but the internal battles and whirlpools were countless. One wrong step could lead to eternal ruin.
Hearing the door open, Ling Ziheng opened his eyes. Seeing Lin Zhiwei enter with a serious expression, he asked, “What’s wrong?”
Lin Zhiwei snapped out of her deep thoughts but was startled by the man in front of the mirror. She quickly recited Amitabha to calm herself. The man was so handsome he seemed like Baldr from Norse mythology. When his peach blossom eyes opened, he embodied the brightest god of light described in legends spanning the four seas and eight wildernesses.

“Ahem, it’s nothing. I just ran into Chu Chuo,” Lin Zhiwei coughed lightly and then shifted her gaze elsewhere.
“What did he say?” Ling Ziheng’s brows darkened sharply.
“Nothing much. He was just kindly reminding me,” Lin Zhiwei said as she sat on the chair beside him, carefully examining the custom half-mask on the table. Truly worthy of Mei Ning—the half-mask was crafted exactly as she had envisioned.
“The mask looks better than the person?”
Someone was clearly displeased.
Lin Zhiwei lifted her head and quickly averted her eyes. “Well... your outfit today is stunning. I’m afraid my heart can’t take it.”
Ling Ziheng smiled faintly, lifting her chin. His deep eyes were filled with warmth. “Does my lady find the current beauty irresistible?”
Lin Zhiwei’s face flushed. “Cough, maybe...” She struggled to hide her true feelings. She had told herself not to come and see this charming devil. Surely he was up to no good, waiting to trap her, one by one, into his circle. She regretted being soft-hearted.
Just as she tried to shake off his hand, the man leaned forward and kissed her lips, then pulled away lightly, a triumphant smile playing on his face. “I only want to please you.”
“You...” Lin Zhiwei was both exasperated and amused. “Ling Ziheng, what on earth have you taken?” She felt wounded inside but was helpless against the man before her. He was the boss, about to go on stage, and her mind immediately gave him full marks.
Blame herself—this infatuation had cost her dearly. Not only was her little card lost, but she was also bewitched by this devilish man.
Ling Ziheng smiled softly, enjoying the sight of the little girl’s fiery temper. Actually, he wanted to ask what kind of medicine she had given him to make him so restless day and night.
“Won’t you cheer me on?”
“For such a small event, you’re nervous?”
“This is the first time you designed for me and will watch my performance from the audience,” Ling Ziheng said seriously, gazing at the little girl before him.
Lin Zhiwei stroked her chin. He was right. She squatted down and, catching him off guard, gently brushed her lips against his. “Is that enough?”

“Not enough.” Ling Ziheng grinned mischievously, pressing her neck tightly as he bent down and captured her lips again, invading without restraint.
Mei Ning had just gone to the restroom and naturally opened the door. The scene before her was so shocking she cried out, “Oh my God! No, no, no, I didn’t see anything! Sorry, sorry!” Then she quickly shut the door.
Lin Zhiwei was nearly breathless from the kiss when released. Her tender lips glistened with moisture. The man before her raised an eyebrow coolly, watching her calmly.
“Damn you,” Lin Zhiwei cursed under her breath, blushing.
“Thank you for the compliment,” he replied.
Lin Zhiwei didn’t want to argue with this devilish man further. She opened the door and invited the eavesdropping Mei Ning inside. Mei Ning was pale with fright. “Lin... Lin Ge, I didn’t mean to—”
“Mei Ning, touch up the lipstick,” Ling Ziheng said softly.
Lin Zhiwei glared fiercely at the man in the mirror. Damn him—a male fox incarnate. “Give him a deadly Barbie pink.”
“Oh? Uh?” Mei Ning looked helplessly between the two. The battle between two kings—why was he the most unfortunate victim stuck in the middle? Lei Ge, Xiao Yu, help me!
