Chapter 118: What Does It Have to Do with Me?
The next morning, the Bermuda staff assembly was underway.
Xiao Zhu sat dejectedly in her seat, lost in thought. Qin Meng nudged her gently and whispered, "What's wrong? You seem so down."
Xiao Zhu glanced at her and sighed, "Don't even mention it. I've been really troubled lately. Sister Yun has been so tense these past few days, and she takes it out on me at the slightest provocation."
"Ah, Sister Yun has always had a bad temper. You just have to endure it," Qin Meng comforted her. Thinking about it, Brother Chu was actually better in some ways; although he often caused worry, he never took it out on her randomly.
"Endure? That's easy to say. You know as well as I do that whenever Sister Yun targets someone, I'm the one who suffers the most. Not only do I have to help arrange things with accomplices, but if it doesn't go well, I get beaten," Xiao Zhu rested her head on her hand, her face full of misery. Recently, Sister Yun had clashed with Director Lin. After the last failed attempt to trouble Yin Mi'er, she had become even harder to please, frequently hitting and yelling at anyone who crossed her path.
"Target? Has someone offended Sister Yun again?" Qin Meng asked curiously.
"I can't say."
"Why not tell me? I wouldn’t spread it around—we’re all in the same company."
"But—" Xiao Zhu hesitated.
"Oh come on, it’s not the first time. The last few times with those little stars somehow involved Brother Chu; I understand the situation."
"Alright, alright. This time, Sister Yun’s target is Director Lin."
"Director Lin? Which Director Lin?" Qin Meng’s heart immediately warmed with a man's gentle smile.
"Which one? The new director by Emperor Ling’s side," Xiao Zhu quickly added.
"Director Lin? Why? What did Director Lin do to offend Sister Yun?" Qin Meng’s nerves tightened.
Xiao Zhu responded lazily, "It all started at the training base, and then during rehearsal. Sister Yun found Emperor Ling and Director Lin behaving quite intimately—that’s like stepping on a tiger’s tail."
"Behaving intimately?" Qin Meng’s brows knitted deeply. Without probing further, she hurriedly asked, "What’s Sister Yun planning to do? Gathering some fighters for a lesson?"
"Heh, this time Director Lin is in serious trouble. Stealing Emperor Ling’s attention—doesn’t matter if it’s a man or a woman—Sister Yun wishes to punish them severely," Xiao Zhu shook her head and sighed, thinking about how smoothly Sister Yun arranged things. Director Lin had no chance of escape.
Qin Meng was so anxious she couldn’t speak but told herself to stay calm. The memory of Director Lin helping her last time was still vivid, giving her a secret idea.
"Actually, I think Director Lin is quite nice—humorous and gentlemanly. Unlike other big-shot director assistants who act high and mighty, Director Lin treats us little assistants politely. Such a good person is truly a pity," Xiao Zhu added.
Listening to Xiao Zhu, Qin Meng’s heart burned with urgency, desperate to rush out and find reinforcements, but would it help?
As soon as the meeting ended, she hurried to the hotel apartment where Chu Chuo usually stayed.
Hearing that Chu Chuo was swimming, she took the elevator straight to the rooftop infinity pool.
Chu Chuo finished a lap, wrapped a towel around himself, and wiped the dripping water from his hair. Seeing Qin Meng rushing over anxiously, he asked, "What’s the matter?"
Seeing no one else around, Qin Meng cautiously whispered, "Brother Chu, I just heard from Sister Yun’s assistant Xiao Zhu that Sister Yun is planning to go after Director Lin."
"What does that have to do with me?" Chu Chuo leisurely reclined on a lounge chair, basking in the sun.
Though expecting this reaction, Qin Meng didn’t give up. "Brother Chu, Director Lin helped us last time."
"Helped me or helped you?" Chu Chuo raised an eyebrow coldly.
"Helped me," Qin Meng lowered her head helplessly. Director Lin did help her, though she had spilled wine on Brother Chu’s face—no wonder he resented her. "But thanks to Director Lin’s timely reminder, we didn’t miss training, and Brother Chu, your stage performance this time was excellent."
"The good performance was due to my own effort, what does she have to do with it?"
"But—" Qin Meng’s mind raced, hoping to plead for Director Lin.
"This is not something you should meddle in. Go back," Chu Chuo closed his eyes wearily and waved her off.
Biting her lip, Qin Meng knew there was no room to argue and left dejectedly.
The empty pool shimmered warmly under the sunlight, its clear water sparkling. Chu Chuo suddenly opened his eyes and sat up, recalling Qin Meng’s words.
Saturday at 8 p.m.—tomorrow.
He had tried these past days not to care about the matter. Though he organized some gatherings, his mind wasn’t in it, and they all ended abruptly.
The usually rich and mellow whiskey at his lips tasted dull.
That girl naturally had her protectors; why should he worry? Besides, wasn’t this the best outcome? If it failed, neither side would lose anything, and he wouldn’t have to fret.
If Ye Linyun succeeded, it would simply fulfill that person’s wishes, forcing Lin Zhiwei out of the entertainment industry, so she could no longer support Ling Ziheng.
Thinking this, he weakly covered his eyes with his hand, shielding himself from the glaring sun. Even if Qin Meng hadn’t come, Lin Zhiwei’s figure had appeared in his mind hundreds of times, though he tried hard to convince himself not to care.
But Qin Meng kept murmuring that name in his ear, stirring his heart into turmoil.
Did he really not care? He asked himself softly. Ha, the answer was obvious.
He reached for his phone and dialed.
"Chu Young Master’s orders," came the immediate reply.
"Find out what Ye Linyun is planning for tomorrow night."
"Yes, sir."
The line went dead, leaving Chu Chuo staring intently at the sparkling pool, his face tense.
What if Ye Linyun really went all out?
The phone rang again. Chu Chuo hurriedly answered, "How is it?"
"Just got word. Director Lin has agreed, and Sister Yun’s side seems to have arranged several male hosts—all skilled, former special forces soldiers."
Chu Chuo’s pupils dilated instantly, a chill showing unmistakably.
The person on the other end waited for a reply, then softly asked, "Any further orders, Young Master Chu?"
"None," Chu Chuo said.
He hung up, clutching the phone tightly in his palm. He had always known Ye Linyun was ruthless, but this time she was truly going all out, deploying such a formidable force—far beyond his expectations.
He lowered his head, burying it between his arms, struggling deeply inside.
