Chapter 119: Woman, You Are Playing with Fire
In the early evening, after pushing through several rounds of games, Chu Chuo aimlessly roamed the bustling, noisy Friday streets. The ceaseless flow of people and vehicles drowned out his thoughts.
Well, he might as well go to the place where that girl raced last time. If... if she happened to be there, he could try persuading her again—at least it would be a small effort he could make.
If she wasn’t there, then he’d take it as a sign to let go, to accept fate and see how luck played out.
With that in mind, Chu Chuo twisted the throttle and headed toward She Mountain Road. The focus in his dark eyes was striking in the interplay of night shadows and light.
He rode nonstop all the way to the parking lot at the foot of She Mountain Road. Chu Chuo swung off his helmet. There was clearly no race tonight; the parking lot was deserted. The night breeze stirred, carrying faint floral scents.
Chu Chuo exhaled in relief—no one here, as expected. Ha, just his own wild guess, taking a chance.
He had long heard that for fairness, the location of the road races changed frequently, with participants notified only days before. The last race was here, so naturally it would be elsewhere this time.
He inwardly mocked his own impulsiveness. After all those delicate, charming faces he had brushed past, now here he was in this quiet, empty parking lot, cooling off and feeding mosquitoes.
Clearly, whether that girl lived or died had nothing to do with him... With Ling Ziheng around, why should he care?
He imitated Lin Zhiwei from that day, sprawling lazily on the ground, heedless that he was wearing the latest A-brand motorcycle suit—expensive, high-quality fabric that was hard to clean.
“That means you can still be saved.”
Lin Zhiwei’s soft voice echoed in his ears. He suddenly sprang up, his heart tightening—could it be she had come?
But all he saw were pine trees swaying and rustling in the wind. Just a gust of wind.
Ridiculous. Chu Chuo cursed himself silently. Always decisive and arrogant, how had he become so cautious and timid?
Isn’t this exactly what he wanted—swift and decisive action?
Wasn’t it he who had pushed things to this point?
He scoffed at his own delusions and was about to leave when two beams of light rapidly approached from afar. Moments later, a sleek car drifted to a stop beside him.
On the matte black HONDA bike, the exaggerated character for “Lin” was faintly visible.
Lin Zhiwei removed her helmet, staring at the equally stunned Chu Chuo in disbelief. Damn, what was this guy doing here at night? Truly unlucky. She had planned to hide out here with a little drink and test whether her alcohol tolerance had really declined so fast, only to run into Chu Chuo. Bad move, bad move...
The girl was without disguise tonight, shaking her smooth long hair. Her delicate face was exquisitely beautiful, even more alluring under the night’s glow, stirring ripples in Chu Chuo’s heart.
So she wasn’t disguised tonight… why was she here then?
They both remained silent for a moment.
Lin Zhiwei guessed Chu Chuo had probably come to catch her and tentatively asked, “Another kind warning for me?” Then she swung down from the bike, tossed a beer from her backpack to the bewildered Chu Chuo.
The beer traced a perfect arc before landing in his hand. He popped it open with a hiss and gulped it down, the sharp, spicy flavor instantly flooding his mouth and washing away the earlier awkwardness.
“Just trying my luck,” he said, shaking the bottle casually.
Lin Zhiwei raised an eyebrow. Tonight, Chu Chuo was clad in full motorcycle gear, his hair freshly styled—a flashy look clearly meant for picking up girls later. Yet, for some unknown reason, he ended up here alone, catching the breeze.
But on second thought, she had to admit: with that face, he was truly the kind to drive girls wild. A natural-born star, with an arrogant attitude fitting a king of the entertainment world, Lin Zhiwei thought admiringly.
“Spill it. Since we’ve met, I’m all ears,” Lin Zhiwei said, leaning against her bike. Her neat gray-and-white casual outfit struck Chu Chuo as surprisingly comfortable, especially compared to the many scantily clad beauties waiting elsewhere. The more he looked, the more breathtaking Lin Zhiwei appeared tonight.
“I heard you agreed to meet Ye Linyun tomorrow night at Jade Pavilion?”
“That’s right,” Lin Zhiwei sipped her beer, answering calmly. “They’re just all trying to disgust me with nonsense.”
“You’re playing with fire,” Chu Chuo said, glaring at her indifferent attitude. Anger flared in his chest, and through gritted teeth he muttered, “Doesn’t she care about her own safety?”
“Playing with fire?” Lin Zhiwei tilted her head, smiling vaguely, “Mr. Chu, isn’t this just following your guidance?”
Chu Chuo was speechless—indeed, it was what he had hoped.
“Ahem, alright, it’s no big deal. Just teasing you,” Lin Zhiwei took another gulp, raising her bottle at the nearly erupting yet restrained man opposite her. “Thanks, but I think you’re underestimating me.”
Chu Chuo suddenly looked up. The girl leaned against the bike, drinking freely in the dim night. Her hair fluttered in the breeze, brushing her cheek. Her eyes shone like stars, bright and clear, accompanied by a trace of pride—completely ignoring that he had once been a wary adversary.
“Just because of Ling Ziheng?” Chu Chuo asked bitterly.
Lin Zhiwei hadn’t expected the question, blinking her large eyes. “What does he have to do with me?”
“Stop pretending. Aren’t you two just faking it?”
“Heh, my heart for my dear is rock solid.” Mentioning Ling Ziheng, a hint of happiness lit her face.
Unlike last time’s provocation, Chu Chuo was flustered. Could it be… she really had fallen for Ling Ziheng?
“Have you fallen for him?” Chu Chuo’s hoarse voice sounded cold in the night.
“Hey, why am I always the one answering questions?” Lin Zhiwei complained. “Your turn. My dear is perfect. What’s not to like?”
Uh... Chu Chuo was speechless. That made sense.
“Or maybe, Mr. Chu, you want to recommend yourself?” Lin Zhiwei raised her glass teasingly.
“You...” Chu Chuo’s usual arrogance vanished into silence.
“I got your warning loud and clear. No skills, no way I’m out here mixing,” Lin Zhiwei finished the last drop, pulling out her phone.
“My dear, I’m at the parking lot at the foot of She Mountain Road. Just realized I’ve been drinking and can’t drive. Come pick me up, oh, and Chu Chuo too,” Lin Zhiwei’s soft, melodic voice sounded in Chu Chuo’s ear, making him furious.
He was certain the sweetness in her voice and the glow on her face were not pretenses.
Chu Chuo was about to put on his helmet when Lin Zhiwei stopped him. “Big brother, drunk driving is illegal. If you get caught and they find out I gave you the drink, I won’t be able to explain. Besides, with your status...”
She crossed her arms, advising him kindly. She had planned to call Nan Yu to pick her up anyway; now that she’d run into Chu Chuo, she might as well confess everything to her dear to show loyalty. Otherwise, if he found out later, she’d have to coax him for a long time. As expected, she was a genius—this was a brilliant plan.
