Chapter 134: A Minor Injury Is Nothing to Worry About

Lin Zhiwei did not wake until nightfall. She remembered only that she had dreamed a very strange dream. In it, she was once again clutching an arm covered in blood, yet still fighting hand-to-hand against countless others, all of them wearing masks.
The scene shifted. A vast wilderness stretched endlessly beneath a sky filled with snow. Bitter winds howled across the open land as she moved through it in a mask. What was she doing?
She struggled awake, only to find herself staring at a snow-white bed and blankets, with the sharp scent of disinfectant filling the air. Her arm throbbed faintly, and she met a pair of anxious eyes.
“Darling,” Lin Zhiwei called guiltily.
“Does it hurt?” Ling Ziheng did not want to talk about anything else. He only wanted to know whether she was still suffering any discomfort.
Lin Zhiwei raised her arm slightly. “It’s really not that bad. The cut is just a little long. I dodged the moment I sensed something was wrong. It’s only because Xin Xin was there and got in the way a little, which affected my performance. Otherwise, I definitely wouldn’t have been injured.”
“You...” Ling Ziheng was furious. When she had said she would let Ye Linyun go, he had already felt that something was wrong. Now that this had happened, dark fury rose in his eyes, frightening Lin Zhiwei into immediately taking his hand and swaying it gently.
“Darling...”
Ling Ziheng did not answer.
“Husband.” Lin Zhiwei blinked. She had already brought out her strongest weapon. Surely it would work?
With a helpless sigh, Ling Ziheng placed her hand back beneath the covers and ordered her with his eyes to lie down. The little minx obediently did as she was told.
“Viwei, I told you, if there’s danger—”
“If there’s danger, you’ll take back my authority to direct the operation. I know.” Lin Zhiwei nodded. “But I’m really fine. I just lost a little more blood than usual. It looks frightening, but the cut actually isn’t very deep. I was wearing two layers of clothing, after all, and I knew what I was doing.”
Ling Ziheng sat beside her and sighed softly, stroking her pale little face. “Viwei, I don’t want you to face any danger.”
Lin Zhiwei nodded and reached up to touch his face, smoothing the deep crease between his brows. “I’m really fine. Don’t worry. Back when my cousin put me through all those brutal examinations, my injuries were much worse than this. At most, this is only a superficial wound. He once beat me so badly that I couldn’t get out of bed for an entire week.”
Lin Zhiwei pouted. After years of training, she had developed a fairly tough hide.
Ling Ziheng was still not reassured. “Pei Xi, call Doctor Qin.”
“Yes.” Pei Xi immediately ran off from the doorway.
Lin Zhiwei smiled wryly. It seemed her darling had truly been frightened. She hurried to soothe him. “Darling, I’m Lin Zhiwei, not some little white rabbit.”

“I know.” Ling Ziheng lowered his eyes, consumed by guilt. If he had refused to let her come to Hua, then at least she could still be hiding in the Nameless Domain, taking it easy.
“Hey, hey, your humble servant can still last a move or two against Lin Qiongjiu, you know!” Lin Zhiwei immediately read the regret in his eyes and protested indignantly.
Doctor Qin entered the room. Looking at the vigorous Lin Zhiwei on the hospital bed, he smiled faintly and reported to Ling Ziheng, “President Ling, Director Lin is fine. The wound has been treated. It’s only a superficial injury and does not go deep. The cut is simply rather long, which is why she lost so much blood so quickly. It’s only on the surface and will heal in a few days, though it may leave a scar.”
“You see? Thank you, Doctor Qin.” Lin Zhiwei sat upright, wearing an expression that said, I told you I was fine.
“Then why did she faint?” Ling Ziheng rose and folded his arms as he pressed the question.
“Uh, that is indeed somewhat strange. We examined Director Lin thoroughly and found nothing abnormal. She may simply have lost too much blood and suffered a slight drop in blood sugar.” Doctor Qin smiled as he explained.
As the Ling family’s private hospital, the facility occasionally received its own chairman. Yet he never said more than a few words each time. On the handful of occasions when he had arrived seriously injured and unconscious, he had left immediately after waking. No one had expected to see him this worried and attentive over someone else.
“You heard him.” Lin Zhiwei looked at the man standing beside her, still tense with concern, and tugged at his sleeve. “I’m really fine.”
Ling Ziheng bent down and tucked her back beneath the covers, soothing her. “Good girl. Rest a little longer.”
“All right.” Lin Zhiwei answered reluctantly. Aside from her arm feeling slightly weak, she was still as strong as an ox.
“Little Lin! Little Lin, what happened? What happened? Doctor, I’m sorry!” Nan Yu rushed in like a gust of wind, nearly colliding with Doctor Qin as he was leaving.
“Nothing happened. Your grandpa is still alive and kicking.” Lin Zhiwei replied irritably, taking out her frustration on him.
Seeing Lin Zhiwei lying on the hospital bed with a thoroughly aggrieved expression, Nan Yu asked quietly, “You fainted again?”
“What do you mean, ‘again’? Have I ever fainted before?” Lin Zhiwei demanded, apparently offended by the suggestion that she was so frail.
Ling Ziheng looked thoughtfully at Nan Yu. Under his sweeping gaze, Nan Yu grew guilty and said no more, silently calculating that, given Ling Ziheng’s intelligence, he had probably already guessed something.
“Rest for a while. I’m going to call the company and will be right back.” Ling Ziheng stroked Lin Zhiwei’s head and spoke gently.
“Fine, but come back quickly,” Lin Zhiwei muttered. She hated hospitals most of all. Darling, don’t leave me behind.
“I will. Very soon.” Ling Ziheng rose and glanced at Nan Yu.

Nan Yu understood at once and hurriedly said, “Ah, Little Lin, I brought you something to eat, but I left it in the car downstairs. I’ll go get it. Pei Xi is at the door—call him if you need anything.”
“Oh.” Lin Zhiwei did not suspect a thing.
In front of the hospital corridor’s floor-to-ceiling windows, Ling Ziheng stood quietly with his arms folded. Nan Yu followed behind him in silence, visibly uneasy.
“Speak.” Ling Ziheng’s voice carried an oppressive authority that allowed no refusal.
Nan Yu lowered his head, struggling with himself.
“I can understand if you don’t want to tell Viwei. But if even I know nothing, who will protect her if something happens?”
At those words, Nan Yu abruptly raised his head. He stopped resisting. “All right. I can only tell you this: Little Lin once suffered from amnesia. She was very young at the time, and approximately five years of her memories seem to have been sealed away. I don’t know much else.”
“Then let me ask you another question. Is the person you knew back then the same in temperament as the person she is now?” Ling Ziheng turned his head slightly and narrowed his eyes. The night outside cast an unusual radiance across his sharply sculpted, exquisite features.
Nan Yu had not expected Ling Ziheng to see so deeply so quickly. He did not dare meet his gaze. “No. She really was different from who she is now.”
“I won’t put you in a difficult position. You only need to tell me this: if she recovered those lost memories, would she be unable to accept them?”
Nan Yu’s eyes widened. He could hardly believe that the man before him had seen so far beneath the surface. He hurriedly began, “As for that, even the Lord very much wants to know. At least the part I witnessed was painful. She—”
“I only need to know that she is physically safe. As for everything in the past, Nan Yu, don’t think of her as too fragile.” With that, Ling Ziheng turned and returned to the ward, leaving Nan Yu deep in thought.
Slowly coming back to himself, Nan Yu watched the man’s tall, slender back and murmured inwardly, Little Lin, you really do have excellent taste in men. Ling Ziheng is definitely no ordinary man.
Just his courage and sense of responsibility alone were enough to earn him a perfect score. And then there was his trust in Little Lin. That was what everyone overlooked—the trust he placed in her. In truth, no matter when or where, Little Lin had always possessed an astonishing ability to recover.
