Chapter 140: Congratulations to Director Lin on Your Discharge from the Hospital
After recuperating peacefully for a week—with visits restricted to only Nan Yu, Yin Mi'er, and Liang Qisheng—Lin Zhiwei finally gloriously discharged from the hospital, keeping her doors closed to all others. Even Xiao Yu, Mei Ning, and Zhao Lei had been strictly ordered not to reveal any information recently, letting the outside world believe she was still in recovery.
Lu Ran had sent countless WeChat messages, terrified that if Lin Zhiwei suffered the slightest mishap, the responsibility would fall squarely on him.
After a brief checkup, Dr. Qin prescribed some topical ointment. Once Lin Zhiwei expressed her gratitude, she and Yin Mi'er began packing their things in preparation to head home.
"Weiwei, things are absolute chaos outside right now, and all sorts of rumors are flying around," Yin Mi'er said, folding clothes while looking somewhat curious. "Some say you were heavily injured by a suddenly falling steel pipe, and others claim your mental state has been stimulated. I heard Director Lu is worried sick. Do you really think giving such lukewarm, noncommittal replies is going to work?"
"Don't rush, don't rush," Lin Zhiwei responded calmly, finding it all within expectations, though she hadn't expected everyone to cooperate so well. "Stirring up these little ripples now will be useful later. Besides, the more severe the rumors, the better. Since Director Lu has already gotten the police involved to investigate, and no one believes it was an accident, this outcome is fantastic."
"That makes sense. In fact, everyone knows full well who else it could be besides Ye Lingyun, though at most they'll probably just find a scapegoat for her," Yin Mi'er muttered, staring fixedly at the gauze still wrapped around Lin Zhiwei's arm, still uneasy. "By the way, is your arm really okay?"
"It's fine. I specifically asked Dr. Qin to wrap it up for me today, but actually, the wound inside has already scabbed over and is about to peel," Lin Zhiwei shook her arm, making as if to demonstrate her arm strength, only to be instantly interrupted by Yin Mi'er, who ordered her to sit aside and forbade her from moving around recklessly.
Kept under strict supervision, Lin Zhiwei could only watch in boredom as Yin Mi'er bustled about.
"Weiwei, next Saturday is the second competition round. Actually, our rehearsals are almost done, so you don't need to stress yourself out anymore. Just stay home and rest lately."
"Got it, Master Mi'er. Thank you for your hard work, and to my dear—not only do you have to rehearse, but you also have to come keep me company."
Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.
Ling Ziheng walked in carrying a bouquet of black roses and knocked gently on the door. Clad in a pitch-black suit, his tall and slender figure instantly filled their field of vision. The sunlight streaming through the French windows of the hospital room struck the bridge of his high-bridged nose and cheeks. With a boutonnière, his outfit today would have been fit for a wedding.
"Sorry to intrude. Weiwei, congratulations on your discharge!"
The man's low and magnetic voice instantly captured Lin Zhiwei's heart. She hopped over to take the black roses, her face radiant with joy yet unable to conceal her utter astonishment as she blurted out, "How did you know I like black roses?"
"I guessed," Ling Ziheng replied with a gentle smile, patting the girl's head with absolute certainty.
Lin Zhiwei was both moved and shocked. It seemed she had never mentioned her liking for black roses to anyone, yet Ling Ziheng had known—it was simply miraculous.
"Is everything packed?" Ling Ziheng asked the girl, who was still immersed in her joy.
"Boss, everything is packed," Yin Mi'er answered, hoisting three large bags. Looking at the golden boy and jade girl bathed in the sunlight, she genuinely felt it was a feast for the eyes.
To be safe, Lin Zhiwei had already disguised herself in men's clothing.
Pei Xi carried the packages down and asked, "Both cars are ready. We can head downstairs now."
"Thank you, General Manager Pei," Lin Zhiwei and Yin Mi'er said in unison.
Pei Xi hadn't expected the two of them to speak together, and he lowered his head, slightly shy.
Yin Mi'er had posture training that afternoon, so Pei Xi arranged to have her dropped off directly. He then got into the front passenger seat and prepared to instruct the driver to head toward the apartment, only to be stopped by Ling Ziheng: "Return to the studio!"
Pei Xi looked back at his young master in confusion.
"Aren't you missing Xiao Yu and the others?" Ling Ziheng turned his gaze toward the eagerly expectant little girl.
Lin Zhiwei nodded frantically like a pecking chick. As expected of her dear, he had guessed it instantly.
"Yes," Pei Xi immediately instructed the driver to head back to the studio.
Ling Ruoyu Studio.
"Meining, you careless clod, the light board is hung in the wrong place! It goes over here!" Xiao Yu scolded Meining in exasperation. "Oh gosh, Nan Yu, why hasn't the food arrived yet? Hurry up and chase them up!"
"Young Master Liang, this camouflage backdrop doesn't go here, it goes over there... over there!"
...
As the chief planner of Director Lin's welcome-back-from-the-hospital celebration, Xiao Yu declared that the people she had under her command were simply too useless, which was why nothing had been set up properly yet.
Covering her face, she couldn't bear to look at the frantic bustling of Meining, Nan Yu, and Young Master Liang. Only Zhao Lei had finished his part quickly and was already drinking tea while scrolling on his phone.
The moment Lin Zhiwei stepped out of the car and realized she was going to see everyone, her heart blossomed with joy. Though they had only known each other for a few short months, she already felt like they were family—especially her precious Xiao Yu, who was simply her most capable partner.
She was still chatting sideways with Ling Ziheng as she walked, never expecting that what awaited her behind the opened door would be a grand welcome ceremony.
A glittering banner and colorful camouflage decorations had somehow turned the studio lobby into a jungle-camouflage theme, and a super-duper soft Baymax had even randomly found its way in, leaving her momentarily clueless about where to look.
"Pop!" The overhead colored lights clicked on, scattering a shower of rose petals across the floor. Suddenly, a large crowd surged out from all around. Lin Zhiwei was frozen in place. She had thought it would only be Xiao Yu, Meining, and Zhao Lei, but unexpectedly, even Lu Ran, Qin Meng, Xin Xin, and several of the female floor assistants from their previous collaboration had shown up.
This was... simply too breathtaking! She glanced sideways at the nonchalant Ling Ziheng, certain that he must have been in on it all along.
"Director Lin, congratulations on your discharge!!!" Everyone shouted in unison.
Deeply touched, Lin Zhiwei didn't know what to say and could only offer continuous expressions of gratitude. "Thank you everyone. Director Lu is so busy, yet he was dragged here too. I'm truly embarrassed."
"The radio program team also bears some responsibility for Director Lin's injury, so of course we had to participate," Lu Ran stepped forward, his expression full of concern. "Is Director Lin feeling better?"
"I'm fine, much better. It's just that my right arm probably won't be able to move around much for a while," Lin Zhiwei acted it out vividly, as though her right arm had suffered severe trauma.
"Director Lin, rest assured, the police have already stepped in. We won't let whoever orchestrated this behind the scenes off the hook," Lu Ran said righteously.
"Thank you, Director Lu!"
"Director Lin, we've missed you so much, wuwuwu!" Xiao Yu popped out and rushed in front of her, pouting with a dejected expression.
"Exactly, exactly, Director Lin, we were all so worried," Qin Meng echoed.
Xin Xin cowered in a corner behind the others, looking somewhat nervous, but Lin Zhiwei caught her in her sights. Glancing around the circle of people, Lin Zhiwei spoke up, "Thank you everyone for preparing this party for me. Since we have food and drinks, let's get started. Have fun, everyone!"
"Yay, fantastic~" The crowd cheered and scattered.
Lin Zhiwei turned her body slightly and whispered to the man beside her, "So grand?"
"My wife has too much charm; there's no stopping it," Ling Ziheng gave a light cough, indicating his innocence.
"I knew you were the one who deliberately arranged this," Lin Zhiwei's gaze drifted over to Xin Xin not far away and lingered for a few seconds before she found her answer within.
Knowing that the clever young miss was too sharp to be kept in the dark, Ling Ziheng immediately confessed, "Opportunities like this are rare."
Lin Zhiwei understood. With such a massive display, it would naturally induce even deeper guilt in the culprit, while also conveniently spreading the news to everyone that she was indeed severely injured—truly a mastermind.
