In the end, the homes of Jiang’s father and Mrs. Zhao were smashed to smithereens. The couple hastily gathered a few belongings and truly began pushing a cart, driving their oxen toward Jiang Chengyan’s house.
Along the way, Jiang Chengyan’s face darkened with anger.
“By the way, is Jiang going to become an official in the county now? Why haven’t I heard any rumors about it before?” Mrs. Zhao asked, puzzled.
Jiang’s father shook his head. “He must have spent silver to bribe someone.”
“There are annual recruitments in the county town—some pass the exams, others buy their way in,” Jiang Chengyan said casually.
“The second brother’s family is quite strange. You know, the only reason I went to Xide Pharmacy back then was because of what Mrs. Qian said. I’ve always felt that this matter is somehow connected to her,” Mrs. Zhao fell silent for a rare moment. “She harbors a lot of hostility toward me.”
Mrs. Zhao had two sons, while Mrs. Qian only had a daughter. Mrs. Qian was always biased toward sons, which was probably a contributing factor.
“Now, the second brother’s family has gotten the upper hand,” Mrs. Zhao snorted coldly.
“But we’re living together now!” Bai Jin skipped happily around them, her laughter tinkling.
Jiang Chengyan didn’t want to pay any attention. What was there to be happy about living together?

Jiang You and Mrs. Qian were indeed in high spirits.
Since driving out Mrs. Zhao, Mrs. Qian had claimed the land as their own, and Jiang You, due to his need to report to the county office, had been frequently running back and forth to the town these past few days.
That day, just after leaving the county office and before turning the corner onto the next street, he suddenly heard a cry of “Oh!”
Instinctively, he looked back and saw a delicate figure collapsing toward him.
“Sir, I’m terribly sorry. My shoes were too big, and I accidentally fell,” the woman said. Judging by her age, she was certainly no young bride, and her skin showed slight signs of loosening. Yet her eyes—when Jiang You met her gaze, he felt as if he were being ensnared.
When she mentioned her shoes being too big, Jiang You glanced down. She had lifted the hem of her skirt slightly, revealing slender ankles.
“Sir, you look somewhat familiar,” the woman’s eyes appraised Jiang You. “You resemble that young master Jiang Chengyan quite a bit.”
Jiang You’s expression froze momentarily upon hearing this.
Her eyes were filled with earnest admiration as she looked at him. “You must be truly remarkable to have raised such an outstanding son. In my opinion, this isn’t a case of the pupil surpassing the master, but rather that an excellent father like you could produce such an exceptional son.”
Jiang You was flattered by her praise. Though he kept his expression neutral, his eyes betrayed his feelings. Someone actually said he looked like A-Cheng—there was no denying Jiang Chengyan’s remarkable appearance, while he himself was just an ordinary man.
With the woman lauding him so, and her body leaning toward him intentionally or not, Jiang You couldn’t help but smile. “Miss, you flatter me.”

The moment he said “Miss,” the woman’s face blossomed with a smile. “You have a way with words, sir. I’m no little girl anymore.”
As she spoke, her hand already rested upon Jiang You’s body.
Like thunder striking and fire igniting, the two instantly found a mutual spark.
“Sir, you have a wife at home, don’t you worry she might cause trouble?” the woman asked deliberately.
“That tigress? I don’t bother with her,” Jiang You replied.
Hearing this, the woman was even more certain that he must be Jiang Chengyan’s father.
Because it was known far and wide that Jiang Chengyan’s mother was a notorious tigress...
