Chapter 125: I Am Domesticated
Hearing Jiang Chengyan’s teasing remark, Bai Yan pondered for a moment, then surprisingly nodded. "It... it is a bit improper to be seen."
This time, it was Jiang Chengyan’s turn to study her. He rose, his tall, slender frame moving toward her step by step. Unwilling to remain under his intense gaze, Bai Yan grabbed his hand and tugged him along, scurrying into the house.
Once inside the west room, Bai Yan kicked off her shoes and sat cross-legged on the heated brick bed, directing Jiang Chengyan to sit on the low stool nearby.
"Husband, where did you go today?" Bai Yan cleared her throat and asked.
Jiang Chengyan rested his chin on his slender fingers, replying casually, "I went to settle accounts and earn some money."
"Oh," Bai Yan replied, then followed up, "Can you give all your money to me?"
Even before she finished speaking, her little paws were already reaching out toward him.
"Why? What is your reason?" Jiang Chengyan leaned back, his expression carrying a hint of roguishness.
"I’m afraid you’ll go looking for... for wild rabbits," Bai Yan’s eyes darted around, and she stretched her hands out further.
Jiang Chengyan only smiled, showing no intention of complying. Bai Yan grew anxious; this was no small matter! This involved the money!
Driven by urgency, she launched herself into Jiang Chengyan’s arms like a little cannonball and began to pummel him.
Jiang Chengyan felt as though his very internal organs were being rattled by the blows.
"Quickly, give it to me!" This was no longer a request; it was a flat-out robbery.
Before he could be beaten to death, Jiang Chengyan reached out and pinned her in place. He leaned toward her ear, his voice dropping to a low, intimate whisper: "Aren't you the wild rabbit I picked up from the mountain?"
At this, Bai Yan slapped his neck with her small hand. While deftly rummaging through his money pouch, she retorted righteously, "I am not a wild one. I am domesticated."
"Oh, tell me then, who domesticated you?" Jiang Chengyan waited for her answer.
"Zhao Xiuhua! Zhao Xiuhua raised me!" The name slipped out of Bai Yan’s mouth before she could stop it.
For a split second, Jiang Chengyan didn't even recognize the name. It took him a moment to recall that Zhao Xiuhua was the given name of Madam Zhao.
"Say it again, whose are you?" Jiang Chengyan held her firmly, his eyes glinting with a dangerous promise.
"I... I am..." Bai Yan stammered, glancing toward the door, hoping for Madam Zhao to appear.
"Don't bother looking. They won't be back for at least an hour," Jiang Chengyan said, extinguishing her last shred of hope.
Bai Yan let out a soft groan and leaned into his chest, her voice muffled as she muttered, "I am yours."
"And who am I?" Jiang Chengyan pressed.
"You are a dog spirit," she blurted out instinctively.
Jiang Chengyan: "..."
An hour later, Madam Zhao returned in a fury. "Which shameless wretch threw my clothes into the bushes? If I find out who it was, I’ll skin them alive!" She had wasted so much time searching for a single garment!
Bai Yan felt that something was off, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
As the plants in the rabbit farm flourished and Father Jiang’s furniture business grew increasingly successful, the family became busier than ever. Amidst the bustle, Jiang Chengyan keenly noticed subtle changes occurring in the rabbits.
