Chapter 126: The Perfect Disguise! Flawless and Impeccable!

Zhang Wuyong watched as nearly all the Xuan Radiance Sand powder he had made that day was used up.
The remaining grains were too coarse; a writing brush could not pick them up at all.
He tossed the brush aside, put away the Xuan Radiance Sand, and rose coldly to his feet.
Looking up, he saw the dim lights scattered around him. Only the streetlamp beside him cast a cold white glow.
There was no point in continuing to practice the Invisibility Talisman.
In the other world, Daoist children used cinnabar brushes specially made for them by their sect, and the cinnabar itself was ground with great care.
Xuan Radiance Sand had never been the best material for use as the Daoist sect's “cinnabar.” Besides, it was not as though one could take up a cinnabar brush, hold a talisman tablet, and immediately learn to draw talismans.
If it were that simple, there would have been no need to create this thing as a teaching aid for Daoist beginners.
Given enough time, he would succeed sooner or later.
But Aunt Zhu could not wait that long!
In the end, what he had to do now was successfully enter the intensive care unit.
Being able to slip in without anyone noticing by relying on the Invisibility Talisman would of course be ideal.
But if that proved impossible, it would be enough to make his entrance flawless, so that no one could discover him.
Zhang Wuyong turned around and first went into a nearby convenience store. He casually bought a cigarette and a lighter.
He walked toward the hospital entrance. On the way, he tore open the cigarette pack, took one out, and put it between his lips.
Click!
The lighter flared, and he lit the cigarette.
He took a deep drag, only to break into a fit of coughing immediately afterward.
He could not smoke!
Back when he had been suspended from school in the eighth grade, he had fallen in with some people outside and tried smoking like them.
Later, Tongtong had caught him. Furious, she had run over, snatched the cigarette from his mouth, and thrown it away. She had even forcibly searched his pockets and tossed out both the cigarettes and the lighter.
Besides, although he was a poor student, he was still different from those underachievers who came from troubled families.
He was a poor student too, but his parents had always treated him well. They simply did not supervise his studies very closely.
After being suspended, he had spent that period playing outside. Like any middle-school student, he had been full of mischief and simply had not wanted to study. He was not truly a depressed teenager, so he had never really taken up smoking.
Zhang Wuyong threw the remaining cigarettes and the lighter into a pile of trash.
He entered the hospital and made his way to the ward building.
Outside the intensive care unit, he glanced over the noticeboard in the corridor.
It displayed the names and photographs of the doctors on duty, the head nurses, and others.
He found the doctor he had spoken to earlier.

Chen Xi! Chief Physician!
After reading the introduction for a while, Zhang Wuyong lowered his head, activated “Flawless Disguise,” and continued farther inside.
“Is Doctor Chen still here?” he asked quietly as he stood before the nurses’ station.
“He’s inside!” A young woman in a pink nurse’s uniform pointed toward the doctors’ office across the counter.
“Thank you!”
Zhang Wuyong turned and walked into the office.
At that moment, Chen Xi was the only doctor on duty there.
He sat before a computer, looking over a patient’s medical records.
“Doctor Chen!” Zhang Wuyong came up beside him.
Chen Xi turned his head and saw him. “You haven’t gone home yet?”
There happened to be a stool nearby, so Zhang Wuyong sat down beside him and asked, “I wanted to ask—how much longer do you think Aunt Zhu can hold on in her current condition?”
Chen Xi shook his head. “I’m afraid two or three days at most. Her head injuries are severe, and she must undergo surgery, but unfortunately, none of her vital indicators allow it.
“Dragging things out like this isn’t a solution, but we don’t have a better option.”
He gave a bitter smile. “The fact that she wasn’t run over directly by the truck was already fortunate. But all the steel pipes on the truck came crashing down on her. There are simply too many injured areas.”
Zhang Wuyong continued looking at him. “Weren’t the doctors holding a consultation? Have they reached any conclusions?”
Chen Xi had been a close colleague of Tongtong’s father, and the situation was weighing heavily on him as well.
For that reason, he did not resent the boy for disturbing him. He merely sighed. “You’ve been waiting outside all this time just to ask about this? Sigh... So far, we still haven’t come up with any good solution.
“Of course, the hospital director has already tried contacting better specialists. But even if they rushed here, I’m afraid it would still be too late.”
“Could I take a look at Aunt Zhu’s medical records?” Zhang Wuyong asked. “I’m sorry. If that isn’t possible...”
“It’s fine!”
Chen Xi turned back to the computer and brought up Zhu Yuwen’s medical records.
Zhang Wuyong moved the stool a little farther behind him. But he was not looking at the records displayed on the screen. He was looking at Doctor Chen.
Only after quite some time did he finally rise and leave.
“In any case, go and spend more time with Doctor Zhu’s daughter,” Chen Xi said, standing as well. “We’ll keep trying to find a solution here.”
“Thank you,” Zhang Wuyong said.
He left the ward building.
Although his real purpose had not been to examine the medical records, Doctor Chen’s explanation had made one thing increasingly clear to him...
At least with the medical capabilities available in this city, there was not enough time.
Even transferring her to the provincial capital offered only the faintest hope. Besides, in her current condition, she could not be transferred at all.
His phone rang at that moment.

Zhang Wuyong took it out, glanced at the screen, and answered, holding it to his ear.
“Wuyong, you still haven’t come back?” his mother asked from the other end.
“Not yet. The hospital director and many of the doctors are still consulting on the case. I want to wait a little longer and see whether there’s any new information.”
“All right. If someone needs to stay behind or anything like that, tell the family. I’ll have your father go over.”
“No need! How’s Tongtong?”
“She’s fallen asleep for now. I’m staying with her.”
“Okay!”
Zhang Wuyong hung up and checked the time.
He could not afford to rush things now!
He waited until a little after two in the morning before finding a place to sit in the darkness.
First, he imitated the other man’s posture, turning as though speaking to someone, then turning back as if operating a computer, and finally looking over his shoulder as though following an explanation.
Then came the imitation of his bearing.
A complete substitution of his overall appearance!
He drew a deep breath, slipped both hands into his pockets, and walked around outside for a while.
At that moment, he saw the four words “Flawless Disguise” glowing with golden light beside his name on the system status bar.
In everyone else’s eyes, he was now Chen Xi.
Even so, his heart remained tense.
The real Chen Xi was still in there, after all. Although Zhang Wuyong knew that the doctor on duty at night did not need to remain constantly inside the ward,
most of the time, it was the nurses who periodically checked the patients’ vital signs. If there was a problem, they would immediately notify the doctor on duty.
The doctor’s purpose in remaining on duty was to respond to sudden changes in a patient’s condition.
Moreover, there were not many nurses stationed at the nurses’ station during the night.
Family members were forbidden from accompanying patients in the intensive care unit. The patients’ vital signs were maintained mainly by machines, and apart from making their rounds, the nurses did not dare to interfere with them unnecessarily.
And so, he waited until after three.
At three fifteen, the nurses should have finished their rounds. It was also the time when they were at their most tired and most likely to overlook something.
Slowly, he made his way toward the intensive care unit...
