Chapter 103: Tsundere Is an Outdated Trait
Two hours earlier.
Ye Zhihui had half of her hair dyed pink, and You Zhen had dyed hers completely white.
Zhao Yutong hadn’t done anything, yet she waited for them for a long time and ended up being scolded nonstop.
“Yutong, you can’t keep going like this!” Ye Zhihui said. “You’re done with the college entrance exam and want to dye your hair, but you still have to let your boyfriend control you? At this rate, Zhang Wuyong will have you wrapped around his finger, and you won’t have any room to breathe.”
You Zhen added, “Look at Shao Shan—she got herself a boyfriend who’s always chasing after her, spoiling her, buying her gifts every day. Even when he sends her bubble tea, he makes sure to bring some for the people around her too. You can’t be like that.”
Zhao Yutong replied, “Zhang Wuyong wouldn’t do that kind of thing. Men like that just seem pathetic.”
“Why are you defending your Wuyong now?” You Zhen shot back. “It’s about showing you care. Didn’t you see Shao Shan’s boyfriend earlier? When Shao Shan and her friends went shopping, he was trailing behind carrying all the bags. That’s how a guy should be when he’s pursuing a girl—showing initiative and sincerity.”
Ye Zhihui didn’t quite agree with You Zhen’s take. “That’s going too far. Call it chasing a girl if you want, but to put it bluntly, that’s just being a bootlicker.”
“Didn’t you notice Shao Shan’s attitude toward him has gotten worse? She constantly compares him unfavorably to Zhang Wuyong, saying he’s not handsome or strong enough and now even his grades are being outdone.”
“I’m telling you, once the college entrance exam is over, Shao Shan’s just going to milk his allowance for a few days, then dump him and find someone new.”
Zhao Yutong said, “Exactly!”
Ye Zhihui snapped, “Yutong, I’m not taking his side here.”
“Playing boys like Shao Shan does is definitely wrong; we can’t be like that. But spoiling a guy as much as you do is also no good.”
“If it’s too easy to get, guys won’t cherish it. Look at you—you put him first in everything, worrying about his eyesight, his grades, pulling him along every step of the way.”
“He takes a test, and you’re more anxious than he is—are you his mother or what?”
Zhao Yutong thought about it and realized she might be fussing over Wuyong more than his own mother.
Ye Zhihui continued, “Guys treat their girlfriends like mothers, but they never treat their mothers like girlfriends.”
“Do you get what that means? Because a mother only gives and never worries about being abandoned, she feels too safe and no one really values her.”
“This applies to boys and girls alike. People only cry when their mother’s gone. While she’s still alive, they’re out having fun and forget she’s there, only remembering her when they’re broke.”
“Yutong, you can be kind to him in your heart, but don’t let him feel too secure, like he can just leave you alone and go chasing other girls without consequences.”
“He…” Zhao Yutong started.
Ye Zhihui raised a hand. “No explanations. Think about it yourself.”
Close to ten o’clock, Zhao Yutong got home, took a shower, changed into pajamas, and lay in bed, tossing and turning.
The college entrance exam was over, but the results wouldn’t be out for a while.
Wuyong still hadn’t come home.
She didn’t even know what she was supposed to do.
Without having to study anymore, her heart felt empty.
The more she thought, the more she believed Ye Zhihui was right.
Especially tonight, when on the phone, the female voice calling “Big Fist Bro” and the many coquettish girls’ voices on Wuyong’s side were unmistakable.
Those couldn’t be girls from Wuyong’s class.
Because none of the girls in his class would call him “Big Fist Bro.”
Wasn’t he supposed to be with his classmates? Why was he hanging out with those “street” girls?
And he ended the call so abruptly.
Zhao Yutong thought it over again and decided Ye Zhihui was right.
She couldn’t let a guy feel too secure, couldn’t let him think everything revolved around him. She had to make him feel that she wasn’t some prize he could easily catch—that he should have a sense of danger.
Hmph! Wuyong, oh Wuyong.
You’re finished.
I’ve awakened.
She tossed her phone onto the bedside table… half an hour without thinking about you.
After a while, she couldn’t help but grab it again and check the time.
Didn’t he say he’d call me when he got home? Why isn’t he back yet?
…
Zhang Wuyong got off a taxi at the community gate.
Looking at the time, it was nearly one in the morning.
He began to regret not buying a smartphone sooner.
If he had a smartphone, he could have just left a message on QQ saying he’d arrived safely.
Now, should he call or text?
Calling might wake her if she was already asleep.
Better to send a text!
But after thinking it over, he still dialed her number.
It was late, but he had promised to call when he got back, and a promise was a promise.
After a while, the phone was answered.
“Tongtong, are you asleep?” Zhang Wuyong asked apologetically. “They stayed too late at the KTV. I wanted to come back earlier, but since I brought them there, I felt bad leaving first.”
“No, not asleep yet!” came Zhao Yutong’s voice on the other end, followed quickly by a nervous, “I-I’m not waiting for your call or anything.”
That voice made Wuyong’s heart flutter.
Same voice, but the attitude was different—so interesting.
Tongtong’s learning new tricks, huh?
“Where are you now?” came a haughty female voice. “Don’t get the wrong idea! Hmph, I’m just asking casually.”
Wuyong tried hard not to laugh. “I just got downstairs and am about to get on the elevator.”
“Oh, okay! Then I’ll hang up!” The call was suddenly cut off.
Wuyong stood before the elevator doors and pressed the up button.
After a moment, the doors opened.
He pressed for the ninth floor. The elevator rose steadily, the floor numbers ticking by.
When the doors opened, brilliant white light flooded out.
Zhao Yutong stood there wearing a brand-new coffee-colored plaid dress.
It was lined with a white collar; the hem reached her calves, and a ribbon tied at the waist.
She looked slender and graceful—beautiful.
Standing in the spotlight, in the most noticeable spot, the white light falling on her made her look like a lily about to bloom, stunning in the quiet night.
Wuyong stepped out of the elevator, stood before her, and smiled. “Waiting for me here?”
The girl’s face flushed deeply, unusually red, as if she was about to burst.
Then she snorted, crossed her arms, and pulled up the white collar and the strap in front, lifting them along with her developing figure.
“Who said that? I’m not waiting for you!”
Her lips curled in disdain, her attitude proud and regal like a princess.
“I just happened to be out for some fresh air. There’s no way I’d be waiting here for you. Hmph… ridiculous!”
So cute!
I want to tease her!
