Li Yunchu had no idea how she ended up leaving the hospital. Despite the air conditioning being set quite low inside Dr. Pei Siyе’s consultation room, she was drenched in sweat.

Fortunately, Pei Siyе didn’t keep pressing her with questions.

But since she wouldn’t be seeing him again, next time she would choose a different hospital for her checkup.

Li Yunchu had taken the entire day off and went straight home to rest.

Her mother was probably not at home, which meant she could enjoy some peace and quiet without the usual nagging about blind dates—complaints about her being picky, not satisfied, and how a stable job and decent character should be enough.

The girl sighed as she took a taxi home.

Her family’s house was a small villa on the outskirts. Though a bit far, there was a direct bus to her workplace, so commuting was not especially troublesome.

The house had been purchased by her late father. Even after his company went bankrupt, they never sold the place; both she and her mother were reluctant to move out.

On the way home, Li Yunchu picked up a package she’d ordered a few days ago—a depilatory cream.

The hair removal device was a bit pricey, so after much consideration, she opted for a well-reviewed, affordable depilatory cream instead.

Once back in her room, she collapsed onto the bed for a deep sleep.

As a working person, she couldn’t afford to waste any rest time.

When she woke up, it was already evening. Seeing the depilatory cream on her bedside table, she decided to give it a try. Afraid of an allergic reaction, she first applied some cream on the back of her hand.

Less than a minute later, she felt a burning pain spreading across her hand.

She bolted upright from the bed and rushed to the bathroom to wash it off.

A dense cluster of tiny red spots had appeared, her skin clearly scorched.

Her face contorted with discomfort. Who could save her now?

Not only was she covered in body hair, but she was allergic to hair removal cream too!

The young woman shook her head and sighed helplessly; it looked like she’d have to bite the bullet and buy the expensive hair removal device after all.

Just as Li Yunchu was about to place the order, she heard the sound of a door opening downstairs—her mother must have come back.

She hurried out, and before she could see who it was, she overheard her mother speaking to someone.

Since they rarely had visitors, Li Yunchu’s curiosity got the better of her, and she peeked down from upstairs.

The moment she looked down, she locked eyes with a pair of deep, dark eyes.

Her mind went blank instantly.

How… how could it be Pei Siyе?!

The man’s lips curved into a slight smile, his eyes harboring emotions she couldn’t decipher.

Li Yunchu felt as if he was silently mocking her.

“Yunchu, why are you still upstairs spying when there’s a guest? Come down and say hello to Aunt Pei,” her mother called.

Aunt Pei?

Li Yunchu bit her lip and went downstairs. She saw a middle-aged woman wearing glasses and dressed modestly. Upon noticing her, the woman smiled warmly and approached her kindly.

“It’s been so many years, and look how big and beautiful Yunchu has grown.”

“Hello, Aunt Pei,” Li Yunchu replied politely, though still very shocked.

“This is your Uncle Li’s daughter, Yunchu. You two used to play together as children,” her mother said.

Li Yunchu suddenly felt her face burning.

“We’ve met,” Pei Siyе said with a slight arch of his brow, his tone neither humble nor arrogant, leaving Li Yunchu feeling like the only awkward one.

“Oh, you’ve met?” her mother asked, washing her hands as she came over. “I thought neither of you knew each other anymore.”

Li Yunchu glanced nervously at Pei Siyе, silently urging him not to say anything foolish.

But the man had no intention of hiding anything. “Just a few days ago, I went on a blind date with Miss Li.”

Her mother and Aunt Pei exchanged surprised looks. The two women were clearly taken aback.

How could these two have gone on a blind date together?

But Aunt Pei recovered quickly, probably guessing that her son had arranged it himself.

Her mother glanced at her daughter, knowing that Yunchu was usually very picky and disliked those who were less than attractive, yet Pei Siyе was widely recognized as handsome—everyone couldn’t help but praise him.

Maybe her daughter wouldn’t be so picky this time?

Aunt Pei had long known her son liked Yunchu. At nearly thirty, he still wasn’t married and had been fixated on this girl from the Li family.

He wasn’t one for many words, but his coming here and answering so many questions showed he was interested.

Since she came to meet Yunchu this time, and seeing that the girl was pretty, well-mannered, and polite, she wanted to play matchmaker for the two.

She lightly squeezed Li Yunchu’s hand and asked, “Yunchu, what do you think of this young man?”

Li Yunchu felt even more uncomfortable. Should she say something nice, or admit the blind date was a failure?

“He’s… quite—”

Before she could finish, Aunt Pei interrupted.

“Oh my, what happened to your hand?”

Frowning with concern, she looked at Li Yunchu’s hand and called Pei Siyе over.

“Siyе, come look at Yunchu’s hand—why is it injured?”

Pei Siyе’s gaze fell on the girl’s pale hand, where the burn marks were vividly red.

“Did this girl burn herself with hot water?” Li Yunchu’s mother chimed in.

She and Aunt Pei had a good relationship. Since the Li family had fallen on hard times, she didn’t want others to think they were trying to climb up socially, so she never brought up their children’s matters.

But today, it seemed Aunt Pei really liked Yunchu.

Pei Siyе paused for a moment, as if he had guessed something. “I have ointment in my car. I’ll go get it.”

While Li Yunchu sat on the sofa, she could hear her mother and Aunt Pei chatting happily about her and Pei Siyе.

She felt restless and slowly walked toward the door, planning to warn Pei Siyе not to say anything inappropriate during dinner.

As she stepped outside, she saw the man standing beside his car, not rushing in. His gaze was fixed on her, as if he had anticipated she would come out.

Li Yunchu quickened her pace to approach him.

“Dr. Pei…”

“I’m not here to cause trouble. My mother said she wanted to visit, so we ended up at your place.”

Hearing this, Li Yunchu bit her lip. “I didn’t expect it either.”

“Hold out your hand.”

Pei Siyе held a small white jar of ointment without any label, making it impossible to tell what kind of medicine it was.

Obediently, Li Yunchu extended her hand. The man scooped out some ointment and applied it to her hand.

She stood there blankly, watching as he spread the ointment on her burn, but it didn’t seem to melt.

Was she supposed to wait a while?

Li Yunchu didn’t dare move.

After a few seconds, she suddenly heard a soft laugh from the man.

“Miss Li, are you waiting for me to apply it for you?”

He added teasingly, “I noticed your nails are long, so I scooped some ointment out for you first.”

Li Yunchu was taken aback. Seeing the playful expression on his face, she looked down at the ointment on her hand and blushed, quickly using her fingertip to spread it.

She felt this man was deliberately teasing her, though part of her wondered if she was just overthinking it—he hadn’t really touched her much when applying the ointment.
