Volume 1 Chapter 30 Striving for an Opportunity
Responsibility, perhaps.
There was another reason, one that Ye Zhaoying dared not even contemplate.
After the car pulled up to the apartment building, Lu Jingchen scooped Ye Zhaoying up into his arms once more and carried her up to the third floor.
The university nights were dark, incredibly dark. Especially after ten-thirty, when aside from the miserable postgraduate students hunched over their desks in the study hall to soak up the light until eleven, there was not a single glimmer of illumination to be found anywhere on campus.
"Holy crap" carried the implication of "that’s insane" or "that’s unbelievable." And the facts bore this out; the fervor with which people pursued the superstar Raffi Chen had far exceeded the expectations of many an Englishman.
A Buick van slid to a halt. As the door swung open, a stout young man and a slender one stepped out, grabbed Chu Tianshu by the arms, and shoved him into the vehicle.
Wu Zhao, hearing the sound of Long Ying’s greeting, did not respond at first. It was not until he reached the dragon-carved desk that she slowly turned her majestic frame, leaning somewhat weakly against the edge of the table, her face pale. She had removed her imperial crown and was dressed in a casual white silk robe patterned with red dragons, as if she had been pulled away by the corpulent eunuch to discuss state secrets just as she was preparing for bed.
As Lu Tianyu’s car approached the villa, the perimeter alarm shrieked. Two brothers guarding Chu Ba immediately grew alert, drawing handguns from their holsters in preparation for battle.
"Spirit souls—a vast quantity of spirit souls, enough to make the Phantom Heaven Sect sell off its very gates and still fall short!" Mo Feng had not lied to Zuo Yingxuan. Once he uttered that final remark about the sect’s gates, it was Zuo Yingxuan’s turn to offer a bitter smile.
"It seems, then, that I have no choice but to hang up my armor and return to the farm," Han Yi said, his tone laden with a weary, morose spirit.
The proprietress couldn’t be bothered to address Lu Tianyu’s foolish prattle. Her slender right hand drifted instinctively to her abdomen, her mind drifting through a sea of thoughts.
Yi Haitao was uncertain of the situation, but he could not afford to dwell on it. He locked the door, hurried downstairs, and headed toward the municipal committee building.
"Don't you dare laugh!" Having had her thoughts laid bare, Wang Zuxian cast a fierce, scathing glare at Chen Xiaotang, her cheeks instantly flushing a deep, crimson red.
Pei Yuetong and her companion had barely entered the city when they sensed ten powerful cultivators surging in their direction.
"We could assign warriors to stand guard and patrol the upper floors to prevent any enemies from infiltrating the tribe again."
Lin Fei was pinned beneath the corpse of the mutated grey wolf leader. Between the crushing weight and the terrifying impact of its lunge, his internal organs felt bruised and torn. He began to cough up blood, and his breathing became labored.
She Hai and She Tian looked back, only to find that, at some unknown moment, a black mist had manifested in mid-air.
Qiuqiu gave a low, soft cheep in response, then slumped motionlessly against Zishui’s shoulder, its head drooping as it appeared deeply dejected.
The strength of the Evil Soul Masters was too mysterious; they could not guarantee they would be able to wipe them out. To reclaim half the territory and force the Sun-Moon Empire to confront the Evil Soul Masters head-on was the absolute limit of what he could achieve.
Zhen Quanling turned his head and locked eyes with the frigid, glinting black pupils of Zhen Qianhong, instinctively swallowing the rest of his words.
Han’s gaze toward Sasuke and Kakashi was filled with indifference, his pupils devoid of any emotional fluctuation, as if he were merely looking at two dead men.
"Hmm... if that is the case, then I suppose I could go and take a look." After a moment’s thought, Ye Guchen nodded in agreement. After all, his current level of cultivation was not high, and he lacked the strength to roam the world of cultivators at will; the Tang Empire was, therefore, an excellent choice.
The laws of the Great Zhou were extremely severe regarding criminals of slave status, and one could infer the outcome from this. Lan Yi couldn't help but think that if her own father, Wang Chengde, and her brother, Wang Chunrong, had truly been convicted of plotting to steal the master’s property, their fate might have been the same as Wang Chengsi’s, and her sympathy for them dissipated.
