Old Master Jiang put down his chess piece.
He glanced at Fu Jiajin and his granddaughter Jiang Jiujiu.
“You two go out first; I want to have a word with the eldest Miss Fu.”
Fu Jiajin’s gaze flickered uncertainly.
Old Master Jiang pounded his cane hard against the ground.
Thud, thud—resounding sharply.
Somewhat intimidating.
“What, do you think I’m capable of harming your sister?
I might strike you, but I would never lay a hand on your sister.”
Fu Jiajin was pulled away by Jiang Jiujiu.
Fu Suiyu stared at the old man and sat opposite him.
She couldn’t decipher the state of the chessboard, so she quickly glanced over it, then averted her gaze.
Old Master Jiang, leaning on his cane, circled around Fu Suiyu once, stroking his long beard.
“Didn’t you die with your parents?”
Fu Suiyu didn’t know how to respond to that question.
The old man waved his hand dismissively.
“Enough, no need for you to explain. That brat Jiang Zhen’s DNA test report wouldn’t be wrong. He might throw tantrums about other things, but not this. He knows what matters most.”
Old Master Jiang sighed.
He sat back down on the side with the white pieces.
“I’m old now, half buried in the grave, yet the only ones I worry about are those siblings. Since they were young, your sister and brother’s marriage was arranged early by us elders. But after you both died, your brother went mad, hurt my granddaughter so many times—I can’t just forgive him so easily.”
After speaking, he glared at Fu Suiyu, who obediently listened.
Fu Suiyu felt guilty and swallowed hard.
“Grandpa, it was him who wronged Sister Que, not me. Don’t look at me like that—it’s scary.”
Old Master Jiang scoffed.
“But you’re family.”
Fu Suiyu truly had no rebuttal for that.
“Grandpa, I know my brother has caused you pain these past years, but you have to believe, none of it was his true intention. I don’t know how to explain it either, but I swear, as long as I’m here, Sister Que will never be hurt. And whatever my brother did before—it really happened—but I promise he won’t repeat those mistakes. There’s no one in this world who loves Sister Que more than he does!”
After she finished, their eyes met in silence.
Both remained quiet.

After a moment, Old Master Jiang suddenly laughed.
“I don’t doubt it; after all, I’ve been through it. But don’t you find it terrifying? You’ve met your four older brothers, even that sister your parents adopted—you don’t find it all strange?”
“Everything changed so suddenly, nothing like it was before!”
Fu Suiyu knew the reason but couldn’t bring herself to speak.
Old Master Jiang placed his last chess piece.
The game’s tide instantly turned.
The black pieces opposite collapsed completely.
Watching Old Master Jiang walk away, Fu Suiyu patted her chest.
She, too, was a major contributor to the Fu family.
She had done everything in her power to ensure none of them ended up lonely and forsaken.
Jiang Jiujiu glanced briefly at the board, then fixed her gaze on Fu Jiajin.
“You may leave now and arrange the engagement ceremony.”
Fu Jiajin wanted to say something, but his left shoulder was suddenly struck hard.
The pain made him grimace.
With Fu Suiyu’s current momentum, Fu Jiajin followed obediently. Before he could speak, Fu Suiyu’s words came rushing out nonstop.
She scolded him like a dog wagging its tail.
“What did you call me out for?”
“Fu Jiajin, this is the last engagement ceremony—who has to hold three or four for the same person? Just follow the official process, and get married by the end of this year.”
“Stop hurting Jiang Jiujiu for Lin Yu. If I catch you or that Lin Yu bullying her again, I’ll kick you both out of the Fu family. Don’t keep making fools of yourselves in front of me—my patience has limits.”
Fu Suiyu quickly glanced at Fu Jiajin with a sharp look.
“One day, I will hand over what Mother left to her. That’s the recognition of the rest of us. Your wife can only be Jiang Jiujiu.”
“And my sister-in-law can only be her!”
Fu Jiajin stared at Fu Suiyu, stunned.
The little girl seemed to have grown up in the blink of an eye.
He didn’t know what she had been through, but when she saw Lin Yu, the hatred and fear in her eyes broke his heart.
Since the moment Fu Jiajin regained clarity, he was no longer a puppet by Lin Yu’s side.
“What are you staring at me for?”
“Are you thinking about Lin Yu again?”

“I told you, she’s not Lin Yu anymore, you silly… brother…”
Like when they were kids, Fu Jiajin cupped Fu Suiyu’s chin with one hand, his palm covering the lower half of her face.
Then he gently squeezed.
“I believe you!”
Fu Suiyu heard Fu Jiajin’s words and her mind went blank, unable to think.
“You... really believe me?”
“Mm, because you are Fu Suiyu.”
Fu Jiajin’s tactic truly stunned Fu Suiyu into silence.
Jiang Jiujiu appeared without anyone noticing and watched the siblings.
Everything, especially how Fu Jiajin acted around Fu Suiyu, had changed.
Fu Suiyu didn’t want to stay there; she didn’t want to witness this display of affection. Wanting to eat, she left the space for the two of them.
She left first.
When Fu Jiajin returned home, he asked the butler and then slipped into Fu Jiahui’s secret room.
He walked to a prepared corner, where a camera was set up facing him.
Pressing the power button, Fu Jiajin murmured to himself. He didn’t know how long he would remain lucid, but he had to leave some evidence to prevent himself from becoming a tool in Lin Yu’s hands—hurting those he cared about.
When Fu Jiahui entered, Fu Jiajin was standing by the camera, pressing the shutdown button.
They stared at each other, exchanging a silent communication through their eyes.
Watching Fu Jiahui flip through his notebook, Fu Jiajin’s pacing slowed, then stopped as he turned around.
“Since you’re clear-headed now, why not release Lin Xiange? You can’t selfishly keep her locked up; she needs her own life.”
“Brother!”
Fu Jiahui looked at Fu Jiajin.
“Her current situation is actually the safest. You know how complicated her family is. If she goes out, she’ll be even less happy than now. Her stepmother is always scheming to marry her off to her own nephew.”
“Her father’s so-called family depends on her support. I’ll have Xiaoyuer accompany her sometimes and, on the premise of ensuring her safety, let her go out to roam. But true freedom? That will have to wait.”
Fu Jiajin nodded.
People and pots have fixed sizes—they’re destined to fit.
For Lin Xiange and Fu Jiahui as a couple, sometimes it’s a willing giver and a willing taker.
Outsiders are better off not getting involved.
