Fu Suiyu paced nervously outside the door, biting her nails. Fu Jiahui also stared anxiously at the tightly closed room. They waited for over ten minutes. Just then, Fu Jiajin arrived with Jiang Jiujiu.

The family doctor opened the door and stepped out, his gaze restless. "Miss Lin Yu's vital signs are stable, but there’s no sign of consciousness. It seems she has returned to the state she was in the year of the accident."

"What?" Fu Suiyu staggered, her face filled with sorrow. Her blood had driven away that otherworldly soul, but Lin Yu’s own spirit had not returned in time.

Fu Suiyu trembled all over, forcing down her fear. "I’m going to find someone!"

Fu Jiahui glanced at Fu Jiajin. "You check this side, I'll go with her."

Fu Jiajin exchanged a worried glance with Jiang Jiujiu; their brows were tightly knitted. Then they turned to the family doctor. "We’re counting on you today. Stay in the villa—no one inside must get hurt!"

"Yes, Mr. Fu!"

Jiang Jiujiu frowned and rushed in for a look at Lin Yu. That face hadn’t changed, yet lying there now, Lin Yu felt completely different to her. Holding Lin Yu’s hand, she whispered, "Lin Yu, you have to come back!"

Fu Jiajin placed a hand on Jiang Jiujiu’s shoulder. "The doctor will watch over Lin Yu. You go freshen up and then keep an eye on her. I’ll check on Suiyu. She’s probably gone to look for that so-called master."

"Okay."

Fu Suiyu gripped the steering wheel tightly, reckless and desperate. Fu Jiahui was just a little slower, then sped off wildly on the road. Thankfully, the secluded mountain where the old shrine stood was out in the countryside. There weren’t many cars or people on the road, but because the shrine was known to be effective, the nearby area was crowded.

Fu Jiahui’s eyes fixed intently ahead, unsure if Fu Suiyu was going to stop.

Fu Suiyu’s car swiftly pulled into the marked parking lot. She jumped out and ran straight up the mountain. Fu Jiahui called her name several times until his voice was hoarse. Only then did Fu Suiyu stop.

He caught up and saw her eyes wet with tears and her lower lip bitten raw from anxiety. He patted her shoulder. "I’ll go up with you."

Together they charged towards the temple. Outside the shrine, incense smoke swirled, mingled with a noisy crowd. Fu Suiyu glanced around and, grabbing Fu Jiahui’s hand, dashed desperately to the left.

Fu Jiahui was puzzled for a moment but quickly set aside his doubts. After all, before his sister reappeared, she must have been through something, learned something. Seeing the four of them surrounding the fake Lin Yu had made her furious enough to scold them all.

With that fake Lin Yu gone, Fu Jiahui knew their memories had been set straight.

Lost in thought, Fu Jiajin soon led Fu Jiahui to a forbidden area on the mountain behind the shrine. A sign beside it read: “Beware of vicious dogs. Visitors keep out.”

Fu Suiyu hesitated only a moment before rushing in. At worst, she would get a vaccination. Compared to Lin Yu’s body, nothing else mattered.

Inside was indeed a large dog of unknown breed, with long fur and sharp eyes. It snarled, saliva dripping from its fangs. Instinctively, they stepped back, but the next moment, Fu Suiyu circled around the big doghouse and charged straight inside.

Fu Jiahui quickly scanned the surroundings, puzzled but obediently followed. If his sister chose this path, there had to be a reason.

At last, they found the famed Master Kong’er. The host merely glanced at the Fu siblings, then nodded respectfully, bowing politely to Fu Jiahui and Fu Suiyu.

Fu Suiyu returned the respect with folded hands and a slight bow. "Devoted believer Fu Suiyu humbly requests Master Kong’er to come down the mountain and save my sister, Lin Yu."

Hearing Lin Yu’s name, the distant master dropped a white chess piece from his fingertips, then slowly rose and walked toward Fu Suiyu.

As a soul, Fu Suiyu didn’t feel the master was very tall, but now seeing him in person, she quietly followed his steps, lifting her head to gaze intently at him, afraid her prayer had gone unheard.

"Devoted believer Fu Suiyu humbly requests Master Kong’er to come down the mountain and save my sister, Lin Yu."

Master Kong’er’s face was calm and unreadable, his hands wrapped around a string of prayer beads—probably 108 in number, each larger than any Fu Suiyu had ever seen.

His eyes grew deeper, then one suddenly turned gold, glowing with a dreamlike yet terrifying light.

Since the founding of the nation, spirits were forbidden. This man seemed like a magician, changing his eye color at will. That golden eye held a mysterious aura, as if it could see right through people.

“Do you want to save Lin Yu, or save yourself?”

“To save her. I want to save her!” Fu Suiyu’s voice grew firmer.

Fu Jiahui gripped her arm. “Ayu, you…”

“I’ve always remembered what Mom and Dad said!”

Master Kong’er chuckled softly. “What if I told you, to prevent her body from decaying, you must summon back that otherworldly soul—would you be willing?”

“I’m willing. As long as my sister’s body isn’t harmed, I’m willing to do anything—even if someone else has to enter her body instead, I’m willing.”

Fu Jiahui felt as if he understood but also didn’t. His mind was a sticky mess that would take effort to untangle.

Master Kong’er stared at Fu Suiyu. “Are you an idiot?”

“If you say I’m an idiot, then I am. But I don’t think I am. You, an old lonely man, could never understand the bond between us!”

“If it weren’t for Lin Yu, our family wouldn’t be where it is today. She came to us and brought us good fortune. I cannot selfishly harm her body for my own sake.”

Master Kong’er frowned, circling Fu Suiyu, studying her closely. He had indeed been a lonely old man for too long and had little grasp of such family devotion.

“Aren’t you afraid I’m deceiving you? Actually, your sister can come back, but…”

“She will come back, just not yet. So before she does, I must protect her body. That’s all. I’d rather die again than let harm come to her.”

Fu Jiahui stared at Fu Suiyu in shock. To them, she had always been a child, but when had that chubby little girl grown into a graceful young woman? Even her heart was now unyieldingly strong.
