Chapter 26: You still have the nerve to ask me for more? Have you no shame!
Fu Jiapeng and Fu Jiaxuan reacted almost instinctively, immediately stepping back. From any other angle, it appeared as though two distinct factions had formed. The fake Lin Yu stood alone, guarding her own corner.
The fake Lin Yu seemed to realize that her words had been inappropriate for the occasion, yet she felt intensely displeased at the sight of the current divide. In her mind, the natural order of the world dictated that every man should gravitate toward her.
Fu Jiapeng was the first to lose his patience. "Lin Yu, how could you say that about Uncle Wang? If it weren't for him back then, you would have been beaten to death by those people—have you forgotten?" His voice grew louder with every word.
This confrontational attitude caught the fake Lin Yu completely off guard. Fu Jiaxuan added, "Lin Yu, have you lost your mind? Why would you talk about Uncle Wang like that!"
Lin Yu knew she was in the wrong, but feeling slighted in front of everyone left her feeling incredibly irritated. For some reason, when she looked toward them again, she put on that familiar, aggrieved expression—the kind that would instantly stir sympathy in anyone who didn't know better. But today, at this very moment, the trick seemed to have lost its efficacy.
Fu Jiapeng pointed toward the distance. "If you don't want to be here, then leave. Go do your own thing, so you don't provoke Uncle Wang again when he wakes up!"
Lin Yu looked at Fu Jiapeng, stunned. "You? Have you gone mad?" In the end, she left, clearly unwilling.
Uncle Wang was then wheeled out, a bandage covering a part of his skull. Everyone followed behind him, one by one. Seeing the stable vitals, Fu Suiyu finally felt her heart settle. Uncle Wang’s sudden illness was something she had never expected.
In contrast to Fu Suiyu's composure, her four brothers were far from calm. Jiang Jiujiu tugged slightly on Fu Suiyu's sleeve, signaling her to look. "They... seem to have gone off to talk about this 'Lin Yu' of yours."
When the four brothers returned to Fu Suiyu’s side, she could sense the shift in their moods. This time, Lin Yu had truly incriminated herself. Uncle Wang was the most important presence in the Fu household; he was far more than just a servant to be dismissed at will.
Fu Jiapeng’s phone was the first to ring, but under the watchful eyes of everyone present, he simply switched it off.
Fu Jiajin looked at Fu Jiapeng with a sense of relief. Today, Lin Yu had been truly inexcusable. They had pampered and spoiled her, certainly, but Uncle Wang was not someone who could be insulted so casually. He felt that if they hadn't taken a stand today, their late parents would have surely haunted their dreams by midnight.
Fu Jiaxuan promptly silenced his phone as well. He could read the situation clearly enough—this was no time for recklessness. Regarding Uncle Wang, there was no other path to take.
Fu Suiyu remained indifferent to all of this; she was only concerned with when she would be able to see Uncle Wang inside. After a long wait, Uncle Wang slowly began to stir. Fu Jiajin took charge of the order in which they would enter. Without question, Fu Suiyu went first.
Fu Jiapeng looked at his eldest brother. "Are you crazy?"
"Shut up!"
Fu Jiapeng fell silent. His eldest brother was, after all, the eldest; what could he do? Jiang Jiujiu watched the brothers' reactions, struggling to suppress a laugh.
Fu Suiyu looked at Uncle Wang. "Uncle, you have to watch your diet. Don't be greedy for those fleeting cravings; you have a long life ahead of you. If you eat yourself sick, what will I do?"
Uncle Wang offered a faint smile. Perhaps due to his illness, his already aged face looked even more withered. "I'm at this age now; I might as well enjoy what I eat. It's the only pleasure I have left."
"Uncle!"
Uncle Wang shushed her. "Keep it down. I just crawled back from the other side, you know."
Fu Suiyu understood his temperament well. After all, even her father had acknowledged him as a stubborn man. Uncle Wang stared at her. "Don't you worry, I’ll be sure to live well. Our A-Yu hasn't finished saving the world yet, so I must stay alive. I’ll wait for the day you record all your great achievements, then I can die in peace, find your parents, and tell them all about it—without missing a single detail."
Fu Suiyu was at a loss for words. Checking the time, she decided to leave, saving the remaining time for the others. Fu Jiajin signaled, and Fu Jiaxuan went in next. He then stared at Fu Suiyu. "You head back now. Have Jiang Jiujiu take you home!"
The next second, Jiang Jiujiu stared at Fu Jiajin and held out her hand. "Pay up!"
Fu Jiajin looked astonished. "I heard from Lu Yuan that I already had a custom, unlimited black card made for you. You're asking me for money? Where’s your shame?"
"I have no shame!"
Fu Jiajin had no choice but to begrudgingly transfer the funds.
After Fu Suiyu left, the brothers were dragged out before they could even finish catching up with Uncle Wang, and they were promptly lectured. Jiang Tian stared at the Fu brothers, focusing his words on Fu Jiajin. "Keep your younger brothers in check. If a brother isn't taught, it is the elder brother's fault. You all need to reflect on yourselves."
Not seeing his sister around, Jiang Tian took the opportunity to speak to Fu Jiajin. "Time and again, you have humiliated my sister for the sake of that adopted girl in your house. If it weren't for the fact that my sister likes you, I wouldn't have this attitude toward you. Not long ago, you personally brought your sister to my grandfather’s house to beg for my sister's hand in marriage. If you hurt her again, Fu Jiajin, even if it destroys me, I will make sure you don't have an easy time."
Fu Jiajin was stunned. He... brought the person who called herself his sister to see Elder Jiang? The more he thought about it, the more impossible it seemed. It was terrifying. How could he have absolutely no memory of this?
After a moment of stagnation, Fu Jiajin reverted to his usual self. Jiang Tian looked at him as if he were an idiot, then glanced at the other three brothers. He took off his glasses, pinched the bridge of his nose to steady himself, and put them back on, fixing his sharp gaze on the four of them.
"Honestly, I think you've all been bewitched. Don't you think so? You used to treat Lin Yu like a sister, an idol. Now, it’s as if you’ve all caught some kind of reproductive cancer; you’re all acting like she’s the love of your lives. I’m truly impressed. I don't even know what to say."
After finishing his piece, Jiang Tian dutifully explained Uncle Wang’s condition. "Do not agitate the patient, and pay attention to his diet."
Even as he was leaving, he didn't forget one last warning to Fu Jiajin. But Fu Jiajin, for the moment, was completely bewildered. The other three brothers crowded around him.
"Brother, you’re actually going to marry Jiang Jiujiu? She’s a tigress! Can’t you get us a different sister-in-law?"
"When did you give her a black card? I don't even have one!"
"You’re finished, Fu Jiajin. Your attitude toward her is completely different from before!"
Fu Jiajin pushed their three heads away. "Get lost! Stop getting in the way!"
