Chapter 37: Taking an Apprentice in a Dream

Looking at the familiar surroundings, Lin Jun thought in disbelief.
This room was much like the grand hall of his mountain peak, though the layout differed considerably.
Everything was magnificent, yet it carried an ancient air, as though steeped in the weight of history.
He sat up in bed and discovered that he was dressed in white robes. His cultivation had astonishingly reached a level of power he could not even begin to fathom.
Glancing at the mirror beside him, he saw that his appearance had not changed. Yet he now wore a cyan Daoist robe, making him appear gentler, as warm and polished as jade.
“System, system, are you there?”
Beep! What does the host require?
Hearing the system’s reply, he immediately felt much more at ease.
“Ha!”
“Ha!”
“Ha!”
A succession of sounds resembling a training exercise came from outside.
With surprise on his face, he walked out, only to discover that a vast plaza lay directly beyond the room.
Several white-robed cultivators were battling fiercely across the plaza. Each had manifested a colossal divine form, their techniques transforming them into figures resembling ancient gods as they clashed with earth-shaking force.
The terrifying currents of energy would have been enough to tear space apart in the world he once inhabited.
Yet before him, they vanished as though the heavens and earth themselves had absorbed them.
“Master!”
“Master!”
The three men who had been fighting stopped the instant they saw him and bowed respectfully.
They each appeared mild and composed, yet a fierce edge gleamed between their brows.
Suddenly, a strange flood of memories surfaced in Lin Jun’s mind.
The Three Pure Ones Sect. The Jade Clarity Heavenly Venerable. Three personal disciples...
After absorbing these memories, Lin Jun immediately gained some understanding of the situation. He realized that he was no longer within the Great Dao Sect and had perhaps transmigrated into someone else’s body.
Although he had no idea who was manipulating everything from behind the scenes, he had the system and feared nothing. Since he had already arrived, he would simply see what the other party intended to do.
“Very well. Continue your training. I’ll just watch.”

Following the memories of how he was supposed to behave, Lin Jun smiled and spoke before walking to his designated seat nearby and sipping tea.
He watched the disciples from his dreams continue their training.
As he observed them practice with their colossal divine manifestations, Lin Jun suddenly grew interested as well.
He had never cultivated this technique before, yet in this dreamlike world, he somehow knew how to use it.
With a thought, golden radiance rose from his body and transformed in an instant into a towering phantom.
Seeing the colossal divine form Lin Jun had manifested, the three disciples were stunned.
“Master, what kind of divine form is that? Why is it different from ours?”
“Master, I’ve never seen a manifestation like yours! Are you hiding some divine ability from us?”
“Master! That manifestation is incredible! Could you teach me?”
At the disciples’ cries of astonishment, Lin Jun froze.
When he turned around, he saw that the golden divine image he had created possessed two faces. One bore a divine aspect, while the other wore a demonic expression.
It looked incomparably majestic.
More astonishing still, the colossal forms manifested by the three disciples were merely phantoms, whereas his was an actual body of energy.
Just looking at it, one could sense an overwhelming might surging forth.
“Master, I can tell that your divine form is extraordinary. If I crossed hands with you, I would surely gain some insight.”
“Could you suppress your cultivation and give us some guidance?”
The second senior disciple, Zhan Wuji, looked eager to test himself against Lin Jun’s divine-demonic manifestation.
Behind him stood a phantom resembling a god of war, radiating formidable battle prowess.
“All right, then. Come at me.”
With the appearance of the divine-demonic manifestation, blazing battle intent ignited in Lin Jun’s eyes. The golden figure behind him burst into dazzling light as well.
He knew that his colossal divine form was different from everyone else’s, and he wanted to discover just how powerful this divine-demonic manifestation truly was.
“Master, be careful!”
With a loud shout, his second disciple charged forward without hesitation.
“Good!”
Lin Jun laughed heartily. He had no idea what realm he was in, but in the blink of an eye, he had beaten his second disciple until mountains collapsed and the man fled with his head in his hands.

“I’ll try as well! Master, be careful!”
Seeing how Zhan Wuji was being suppressed almost entirely by the power of his master’s manifestation, Dao Wusheng could no longer restrain the battle intent in his heart. Controlling his own colossal divine form, he joined the fray like an ancient god.
“Master, I’ll try too!”
Watching the other two being beaten until they fled in disarray, the youngest disciple could not resist joining the battle either.
Yet in the blink of an eye, the training session in the plaza had become a one-sided beating at Lin Jun’s hands.
“We’re done! We refuse to fight anymore! Master, you’re far too strong!”
Before long, the disciples were panting heavily. Each rested his hands on his knees, gasping for breath, while the divine images behind them imitated their every movement.
Even after the three of them joined forces and fought until they were utterly exhausted, they could not so much as touch a single hair on Lin Jun’s head.
By contrast, while they struggled for breath, Lin Jun merely smiled and dispersed his manifestation, remaining calm and unruffled from beginning to end.
The three senior and junior disciples exchanged glances, each seeing a trace of embarrassment on the others’ faces. The three of them together would probably spend their entire lives gazing up at their master’s back.
And this was while their master had suppressed his cultivation!
“Master, we were wrong. Please just continue watching from the side.”
After hanging their heads in dejection for a while, the disciples resumed training under Lin Jun’s guidance.
Amid the immense thunder of their clashes, they seemed to grow even stronger.
No one knew how much time passed. Lin Jun gradually became completely familiar with this place. Every day, aside from teaching the disciples how to cultivate, he simply sat nearby and drank tea. Life was indescribably pleasant.
At times, he would experience a fleeting moment of bewilderment, unable to tell whether he was Lin Jun of the Great Dao Sect or the Jade Clarity Heavenly Venerable.
In the blink of an eye, ten years passed.
Wooooo...
On this day, the alarm of battle suddenly rang throughout the Three Pure Ones Sect.
Lin Jun emerged from his room and saw enormous war puppets drifting through the air outside. Disciples from other Daoist palaces stood atop them, each wearing a grave expression.
“Master, you’re here!”
“An urgent report has arrived from the battlefield beyond the heavens. An endless army of fiends is attacking. They are calling for reinforcements and asking us to hurry there and suppress them!”
