Chapter 47: Escape
Looking at her with a bewildered expression, Shengxiayan glanced blankly at the basin of water and said coldly, "Xie Xinrong, I have maidservants."
"But how can a maidservant be as attentive as a disciple?" Xie Xinrong said with a beaming smile. "It doesn't matter if you won't take me as your disciple yet; I can fulfill a disciple's duties beforehand. Sooner or later, you'll feel that I am suitable to be your disciple!"
Hearing this, Sun Meng felt a sharp pain in her heart as if a thorn had suddenly pierced through it. Clutching her chest, her heart was bleeding.
Having only sat in Zhou Jian's office for a short while, Xiao Xuanran caught sight of a familiar face.
His chest felt as though it were being crushed by a heavy weight, leaving him unable to breathe. He had searched almost everywhere he could possibly look, yet there was still no sign of her. Suddenly, he discovered a slip of paper at the entrance of a military tent: "Guess where she is?" In the bottom right corner was written a single character—"Liang".
After a spell of rain, the biting cold was piercing, and Sun Meng fell ill once more. Physical ailments were easy to cure, but ailments of the heart were nearly impossible to heal; Yun Ying naturally understood what was weighing on her mind.
Before Lin Peijiu had time to react, her lips brushed against something soft. Like a frightened rabbit, she reacted with a conditioned reflex and tried to back away. Yet before she could fully process it, that soft touch was gone, leaving only a very faint, lingering fragrance behind, as if it had all merely been a dream.
Meanwhile, Gu Feng left the Nine Dragons Pagoda, found a place to rest for the night, and then departed from the fourth floor, making his way toward the first floor of the Sorcerer God's Temple. Originally, Gu Feng still had many things to do, but Qin Xiyao had been waiting for him in the Sorcerer Clan for quite some time.
Wang Mingli stepped forward to greet them with a smiling nod, keeping her distance just right—neither too far to appear aloof, nor too close to seem insincere.
On that day, Lin Peijiu had genuinely taken Wen Ruoying to eat crispy savory pastries, partly to test whether she was truly as innocent as she seemed, and partly because she herself had not enjoyed such a carefree and hearty time in ages.
Before she could look closely, a rapid knocking sounded against the glass, and Gu Qi turned around with a pleasant surprise.
"I see." Qin Shiliu understood upon hearing this. No wonder when he had previously asked Luoya whether manpower assistance could be provided, Luoya had remarked, "It's not entirely out of the question." It seemed they truly possessed that capability, which proved that some of Han Li's claims were simply untenable.
"Why?" Zhang Tianbao and Chen Ke stared at Jian Jie with questions on their minds at almost the exact same instant.
After all, the Five Arts practitioners were masters of the esoteric world. For Guan Lao Si to treat them in such a manner—if they chose not to pursue the matter, it was already a sign of great magnanimity. Surely Guan Lao Si owed them an explanation? He couldn't possibly have wanted to plant a Gu worm to harm people for no reason at all; what on earth was his purpose in doing this?
Chu Xi slowly reached out her hand, and the light in her palm flickered with a wave of fluctuation. Out of thin air, a silvery-white short staff appeared in her grasp.
"I suppose I understand a little of what you mean, but if things are like this, what about yourself? If this illness never improves, are you going to wait for a lifetime?" Jiang Jinjiu sighed.
Leaving the hotel and stepping outside, Fang Tanyha hailed a taxi. Sitting in the back seat, she could no longer hold back her tears. Covering her red lips, her body shook violently, yet she gritted her teeth and desperately forced herself not to make a sound. Her heart was in agony, finding it hard to accept all of this.
After saying this, the God of Thunder knelt to the ground and kowtowed three times. When he rose again, he was clad in a suit of battle armor as dark as his own thunderbolts.
Hong Yiming failed to comprehend the meaning behind Ye Fan's gesture, his mind spinning as he tried to figure it out. What did Young Master Ye pointing at his pocket mean? Could he be asking for money?
"Brother, you certainly have a lot of 'brothers'," Xu Jiayi muttered, having been dissatisfied with this fellow the entire day. Since he still wanted to go out now, he would first have to get past her.
The descent of supreme geniuses from beyond the realm naturally attracted some demigod experts within the main world to pledge their allegiance. After all, these geniuses came from top-tier factions outside the realm, and neither the treasures they possessed nor their strength could be matched by the factions within the primary world.
