Volume One, Chapter 9: She Jumped!
Li Susu felt her heart skip a beat, her mask of composure nearly cracking. However, having lived through a lifetime of trials, she quickly steadied her emotions. Maintaining an expression of blank bewilderment, she asked, "What?"
Her look of confusion was impeccable.
Ji Yunyue lowered her gaze, only to hear Li Susu offer a defensive explanation as if just realizing what had happened. "No, wait, I... I really didn't know it was that hot. I'm sorry! I..."
"Then you should just leave the country and never come back," Ji Yunyue interrupted.
"Huh?" Li Susu was truly stunned, unable to keep up with Ji Yunyue's change of pace.
Ji Yunyue’s expression turned mocking. "If you really didn't want to ruin my marriage with Fu Mingyue, you wouldn't have contacted him the moment you returned, let alone revealed your so-called helplessness from back then. Now you come here and spout all this manipulative nonsense—don't you think it’s a bit fake?"
Li Susu’s face turned pale instantly. "I... I’m not... I was just—I had no choice. Because Mingyue kept misunderstanding me, he refused to work with the Li family. My father, I... I really had no other option..."
"Then what else is there to say?" Ji Yunyue cut her off coldly.
Li Susu, on the verge of tears, lowered her head. She couldn't understand how Ji Yunyue, who had always been as dim-witted and easy to manipulate as a pig, had become so difficult to deal with.
What on earth could she do to make her lower her guard?
Li Susu bit her lip, acting as if she were struggling to speak, before finally making a decision. "The truth is, I can no longer bear children. So, there can never be a future between Mingyue and me. Yunyue..."
She looked up at Ji Yunyue abruptly, her eyes red and pitiful.
Ji Yunyue sighed. She truly deserved an award for best actress; her performance was indeed impressive.
"Don't worry, I will explain this clearly to Mingyue, as well as to his parents. Therefore, Mingyue will always eventually return to your side. Just... please forgive my small bit of selfishness. I... I'm sorry."
As she finished, tears began to stream down her face. Li Susu’s way of crying was truly beautiful and pitiable, but it only convinced Ji Yunyue further that she had an ulterior motive.
And it wasn't just about Fu Mingyue!
The soup...
Ji Yunyue glanced at the hospital gown she had changed out of, her gaze landing on the soup stain.
Perhaps she could have someone test the soup to see if something had been added to it.
With her mind made up, Ji Yunyue’s gaze toward Li Susu grew colder. "Technology is advanced nowadays; isn't having a child simple enough? You know very well that if you told Fu Mingyue about your condition, he would only pity you more and find it harder to let you go. Could it be that you actually want to use my womb to bear a child for him, and then kick me to the curb? Is that why you're putting on this show?"
"I didn't!" Li Susu denied it with ironclad certainty.
Ji Yunyue could tell that this, at least, was the truth. It only confirmed that her target wasn't Fu Mingyue, but something related to herself.
"I see. You're worried I'll take away Fu Mingyue’s fortune," Ji Yunyue said mockingly.
Li Susu stiffened, as if her true intentions had been pierced.
The mockery on Ji Yunyue’s face deepened. "So that really is it. It seems the Li family is truly in need of money."
"It's not like that..." Li Susu appeared unable to defend herself. "Forget it. You misunderstand me too deeply; whatever I say is useless. I’m leaving. I’ll come to see you again tomorrow."
Ji Yunyue watched Li Susu flee in a panic, her eyes growing even more profound.
She pulled out her phone, scrolled through her contacts, and tapped on an all-black profile picture. After a moment of hesitation, she began to type.
*Senior, could you do me a favor? I have something here that I would like you to help me test.*
After editing the message, Ji Yunyue hesitated before hitting send.
There was no response from the other side.
Ji Yunyue watched for a while, then thought of what Ji Yunfan had said about the trending topics. She closed WeChat and opened Weibo.
#Yongye Star River#
#Mother with XYY Syndrome violently slaps injured daughter in hospital#
#Data analysis on practical cooperation results between China and Bazhou#
#Shock! Fu Group young president suspected of having fertility issues#
...
Ji Yunyue’s eyes flickered as she opened the fourth trending topic. At the very top was a post from a whistleblower, attached with a photo of her outside the andrology department, though her face had been blurred.
But with the netizens' incredible ability to dig for gossip, and given the keywords of the trending topic, the blur made no difference.
Still, she hadn't paid for this trending topic; it wasn't the right time yet.
She hadn't expected it to break early just because her mother had come to the hospital to slap her.
Ji Yunyue wasn't particularly surprised. The Fu family was a constant subject of gossip in Yun City and frequently trended, though this was indeed quite scandalous. It had just happened a bit too quickly, and...
After browsing through, Ji Yunyue keenly judged that it was likely a competitor of the Fu Group trying to sabotage them.
"Fine. Even if it broke a bit early, it saves me the trouble."
Ji Yunyue scoffed and was about to close the page when her thumb paused on a post.
*Am I the only one who noticed the long-legged god behind the young Mrs. Fu? Did none of you see his legs? They look like they're 1.8 meters long! This is Qin Che brought to life! This height, this physique, these proportions—I’m drooling!*
Attached was a photo with Ji Yunyue cropped out, leaving only the long-legged man.
The photo was very blurry, as he had been in the background, but the clarity was still striking.
However...
Ji Yunyue liked the post.
She didn't know Qin Che.
But this man did indeed have an exceptional figure; even in a blurry photo, one could vaguely discern he had a divine appearance.
Ji Yunyue opened the comments and wrote with regret: *A pity he just came out of the andrology department...*
The blogger replied instantly: *Girl! You know how to grab the point! [Shattered emoji x3]*
Looking at the endless stream of "shattered" emojis, Ji Yunyue could feel the other person's breakdown through the screen.
The blogger replied again: *God! Are you the young Mrs. Fu???? [Attached image: Confused black guy meme]*
Ji Yunyue smiled and exited Weibo, checking WeChat again. Her senior still hadn't replied.
She put down her phone and sighed. It seemed she wouldn't be able to find anyone to help her.
Suddenly, her phone chimed.
Ji Yunyue picked it up immediately. A bright red "1" appeared on her senior's profile.
*Senior: Bring it to the research institute.*
The reply was concise and to the point, yet it made Ji Yunyue’s eyes well up.
So, asking for help wasn't as difficult as she had imagined.
*Thank you!*
Ji Yunyue sent her gratitude.
Her senior did not reply.
*I’m not in a position to go there right now, though. Can I send it to you via local courier?*
Ji Yunyue asked again.
*Senior: You can.*
It was still brief, but Ji Yunyue didn't find him cold; instead, she felt a warmth in her heart.
In her past life, she had always felt that her master and senior were too distant. She hadn't been used to interacting with them and always felt that whatever she said was a nuisance, and that they found her annoying.
But judging by her senior's current response, he was actually very kind and always ready to help.
"Someone is about to jump off the roof!"
Suddenly, someone downstairs let out a cry of alarm.
Ji Yunyue lifted her eyes, and the door to her hospital room was kicked open with a bang.
"Ji Yunyue! What did you say to Susu to drive her to the point of jumping off a building!"
