“Did you get back in by clinging to Yu Feng?!”

Lin Chen nearly rolled his eyes into the heavens. “Come on, man. Can’t I have gotten myself invited back because of my own charm and talent—because the company realized it couldn’t do without me?”

“Why does it have to be because you latched onto someone?”

“I’m married! My wife is as beautiful as a goddess, all right?!”

His colleague patted him on the shoulder. “You can fool your buddies, but don’t fool yourself. I’m no little princess—I’m not going to keep chasing you.”

After Yu Lingyan’s little scene, the entire company knew that Lin Chen had claimed to be married in order to fend off her advances.

But he had no marriage certificate, no wedding ring, and not even a photograph of the two of them.

The truth was obvious to anyone with half a brain.

Lin Chen was about to explain, but his colleague had already gone into the office.

He sighed.

Oh, well. As long as Yu Lingyan really got transferred away, this whole incident would probably be enough to keep the other women in the company from coming near him.

Whether he explained himself or not no longer mattered.

All that mattered was that he knew how blissful it felt to hold his darling wife!

Of everyone, Shen Wei was the most shocked to see Lin Chen back at work.

He knew exactly how difficult Yu Feng was to deal with.

The woman had taken excellent care of herself and was still beautiful, but her age was undeniable. She was probably going through menopause. Once she made up her mind about something, no one could talk her out of it.

And yet she had personally brought Lin Chen back to the company?!

Rubbing his chin, Shen Wei could not resist sending Yu Feng a message.

“Did the higher-ups put pressure on you? Was it the chairman or the old madam? Have you figured out what kind of background Lin Chen has?”

Then, unable to resist gloating, he added:

“I warned you long ago that Lin Chen wasn’t ordinary. I told you not to fire him. Do you realize your mistake now?”

Yu Feng did not reply.

Naturally. After taking such a hard slap to the face, she was probably furious enough to explode.

The people in the finance department were likely in for a rough time.

Shen Wei chuckled. After thinking it over, he got up and went to Lin Chen’s office.

“Not bad, brother!”

Jiang Yao gave him a thumbs-up while eating breakfast. “You actually brought the infamous Demon Nun to heel. There’s no one else here, so give me the inside story, will you?”

“Why did she fire you, then personally bring you back? I saw her downstairs this morning. Her expression was terrifying. Anyone who didn’t know better would have thought she was about to kill you!”

Lin Chen rolled his eyes. “If you saw how murderous she looked, why did you call me? Were you trying to sell me out?”

“Heh, I didn’t have a choice!”

Jiang Yao gave an awkward laugh. “It’s not like we could both end up unemployed, right? I didn’t know whether you’d come back. At the very least, I had to protect my own job so we could keep developing sustainably!”

“Be honest…”

He waggled his eyebrows. “Yu Feng didn’t bring you back because you agreed to date Yu Lingyan, did she?”

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Yu Lingyan is certainly attractive, but with that personality of hers, dating her for one day would cost you six months of your life. Don’t do anything reckless!”

“If you’re really lonely, I can take you out for a foot massage tonight. Help you blow off some steam…”

“Will you shut up already?!”

Lin Chen hurled a steamed bun at him. “If you can’t say anything sensible, don’t say anything at all.”

Jiang Yao stretched out his neck and caught the bun cleanly between his teeth. After taking a bite, his eyes widened.

“This is pretty good. Where did you buy it?”

“See? That’s what they mean by throwing meat buns at a dog—once it’s gone, it’s never coming back.”

Lin Chen rolled his eyes again and could not be bothered to argue with him. Instead, he turned on his computer and prepared to work.

Since he was back, he had to do the job properly.

If nothing else, he needed to familiarize himself with the work as quickly as possible and strive to do it perfectly.

That way, even if Yu Feng tried to make trouble for him again, she probably would not dare fire him so casually.

Just then, the office door opened.

“Good morning, General Manager Shen!”

Lin Chen and Jiang Yao immediately stood up.

“Sit, sit. I’m just here to take a look. Why are you so nervous?”

Shen Wei smiled amiably and handed Lin Chen the car keys.

“Xiao Lin, since you’re back, the car is yours again. Work hard from now on!”

Then he lowered his voice a little.

“By the way, if you don’t want to date anyone, don’t worry. I’ll raise a suggestion with the board that the company prohibit relationships between employees. Then you can rest easy.”

Plenty of companies had such a rule anyway. Adding it now would not attract too much attention.

It was also a perfect opportunity to win Lin Chen’s favor. Why not take it?

Lin Chen stared at the keys, momentarily unable to process what was happening.

Jiang Yao, however, blurted out, “Holy crap! General Manager Shen, you’re actually changing company policy for Lin Chen? Don’t tell me you’ve taken a liking to—”

Lin Chen lunged forward and clapped a hand over Jiang Yao’s mouth, raising his voice several octaves.

“Ah, what beautiful weather we’re having today! Isn’t that right, General Manager Shen?!”

Shen Wei looked at Jiang Yao in confusion.

“What were you saying just now?”

Lin Chen pressed his hand down even more firmly and gave an awkward laugh.

“Nothing. The guy’s just had one of his episodes. He likes talking nonsense. Please don’t take him seriously, General Manager Shen!”

Seeing that, Shen Wei decided not to ask any further.

“Then I’ll leave you to it. Work hard, both of you. If you need anything, come straight to me. Don’t stand on ceremony!”

He was joking, of course. The old madam had personally placed these two men in the company. That alone was enough to prove that neither of them had an ordinary background.

Now Yu Feng had fired Lin Chen, only to beg and plead to bring him back before a single day had passed.

The power behind him was impossible to imagine.

Simply impossible!

The only sensible thing to do was curry favor with him.

After Shen Wei left, Lin Chen finally removed his hand and snapped, “Jiang Yao, are you out of your mind? Do you just say whatever pops into your head?”

When there was no response, he turned around and saw Jiang Yao sprawled across the sofa, his face bright red and his eyes squeezed shut.

“Holy crap, did I suffocate you?!”

Lin Chen’s eyes widened. Without a second thought, he threw himself forward.

“Brother, you can’t die! Hang in there—I’ll give you mouth-to-mouth!”

“Get lost!”

Jiang Yao sprang upright.

“Damn it, I only wanted to ask whether he’d taken a liking to you. Did you have to try to kill me?”

You had to clamp a hand over his mouth the moment he started talking—and not only his mouth, but his nose too. He had nearly kicked the bucket!

Lin Chen glared at him.

“You speak without using your brain. How is that my fault?”

What did he mean, “taken a liking to him”? If he had said that in front of Shen Wei, whether it was true or not, neither of them would have been able to show their faces at the company again.

Jiang Yao, however, grew even more animated.

“Think about it. If he hasn’t taken a liking to you, would he treat you this well?”

“Then why don’t you say he treats you just as well? We share the same office and earn the same salary!”

“Come on, isn’t the Mercedes in your hands? Give me a Mercedes E300 and, even if the owner were a man, I… I could grit my teeth and put up with it once.”

“Will you shut up already?”

The more Lin Chen listened, the more speechless he became. He punched Jiang Yao.

“All right, get to work!”

After finally sending Jiang Yao away, Lin Chen fell into deep thought.

Why exactly was this happening?

Ever since he had managed to join Honey Candy, everything had seemed strange at every turn.

Lin Chen already knew what position Jiang Yao’s cousin held in the company. This matter definitely had nothing to do with him.

Then why was Shen Wei treating him so well…?

Could it be that Shen Wei really had taken a liking to him?!
