Chapter 8: Their Relationship Can No Longer Be Kept Secret
The two of them hurried to check out of the hotel and returned home.
Looking at her bloodless face, Jiang Qi was full of concern. "Yuyu, I won't ask whose child this is, but what do you plan to do next?"
"Are you keeping it, or..." She left the rest of her sentence unsaid.
"Given the state of the Gu family, this isn't Jiang City; his influence doesn't reach this far, so the hospital shouldn't be able to trace anything for now. But what about when we go back?"
Gu Fangyu knew this all too well. "Let me think about it."
To Gu Fangyu’s complete shock, she had barely stepped into the Gu residence when he arrived right behind her.
A knock sounded at the door.
She opened it and felt a flicker of panic upon seeing him standing there. She instinctively moved to close the door.
The man reached out, bracing his hand against the edge of the door frame, exerting a slight force to hold it against her efforts.
"Why didn't you get a full check-up?" Gu Hanchen’s gaze was like a torch, as if he wanted to see right through her.
Gu Fangyu felt a surge of anxiety, terrified that a servant might walk by and see them.
"I'm fine, there’s no need for a check-up." She kept her head bowed, avoiding his gaze.
The man wore a gloomy expression and let out a cold scoff. "What, now that you’ve latched onto the Xie family, your tone has become rather bold?"
She looked up sharply, looking at him in confusion.
In an instant, Gu Fangyu recalled Jiang Qi telling her that Xie Chenhao had saved her when she first woke up, and she immediately understood. He had come to stand up for his sister.
Gu Fangyu’s expression turned cold. Fearing that he might discover her little secret, she dared not openly defy him and could only swallow her anger in silence.
Watching her look of suppressed fury, the man softened his tone. "Stay away from Xie Chenhao."
She looked up, a hint of bewilderment in her expression.
That was it?
Gu Hanchen glanced at her, and while she was dazed, he took the opportunity to slip through the gap in the door. By the time Gu Fangyu regained her composure, the man was already sitting brazenly at her vanity.
"Where is the hospital report?" he said, glancing around the room before his eyes settled on her handbag.
He reached out, preparing to pick it up.
Her small frame lunged forward, her hands gripping the bag tightly. Gu Hanchen frowned immediately, looking at her.
Gu Fangyu knew her actions were too abrupt, but the thought of the pharmacy receipt she hadn't yet had the chance to throw away made it impossible for her to let go.
Under his puzzled gaze, she snatched the bag away. She instinctively clutched it to her chest. "Everything is digital now; there’s no paper report."
Gu Hanchen remained doubtful. Her heart was in her throat.
Fortunately, after staring at her for a while, the man did not press further. "Gu Fangyu, I’ll take your word for it this time."
His words sounded as if they were some grand act of benevolence.
"Do I have to be eternally grateful to you, then?" she curled her lips coldly, finding it ironic.
The man knitted his brows. "Why are you acting so crazy all of a sudden?"
"I’m acting crazy? Isn't it because you think I’ve blocked your dear sister’s good match, so you followed me back to warn me?"
Gu Hanchen: "..."
Gu Fangyu had been living in fear for days, and the pent-up emotions had nowhere to go. At this moment, she was like a lit firecracker, ready to explode.
"What did I do wrong? For twenty years, the people I thought were my family suddenly told me they weren't. You feel sorry for Gu Yao suffering for twenty years without family, and now that you’ve finally found her, you’re eager to shower her with everything best. But what about me?"
"My family is gone, my biological parents don't want me, and I have to be trampled by you. Do I deserve this?"
"Gu Fangyu, watch your language!" the man barked coldly.
She was startled by his shout and calmed down slightly. Remembering his methods in the bedroom, she dared not challenge him further.
The man stepped forward, raised his hand to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear, his sharp gaze fixed on her face. "What kind of nonsense are you spouting, hmm?"
"Did I say something wrong? Didn't you come here to stand up for Gu Yao? Just because Xie Chenhao saved me and she threw a fit, you have to take your anger out on me?"
Gu Fangyu stared at him defiantly. "And what about this? Is this another way of trapping me in bed for three days? Aren't you afraid Mother will discover your dirty little secret?"
"Dirty?" Gu Hanchen narrowed his eyes, a menacing aura radiating from him. "Gu Fangyu, I've spoiled you too much. Do you know what you're saying!" His voice grew several decibels louder.
"Isn't it true? She’s a sister you raised for twenty years, and you still managed to cross that line. Gu Hanchen, if what’s between us isn't dirty, then what is?"
"Is that really how you think of it?" A flash of pain crossed the man's eyes.
Gu Fangyu was too caught up in her emotions to notice. She opened her mouth to speak, but the man leaned in and kissed her.
"Mmm..."
She struggled instinctively, but it only earned her a more forceful demand from him.
Gu Fangyu, who had always been obedient and submissive in front of him, no longer wanted to keep up the charade. She opened her mouth and bit down hard on his lip.
The man winced in pain, and as he pulled away, beads of blood seeped from his lip. Gu Hanchen wiped it with his hand, his expression cold. "Gu Fangyu, you’re like a dog."
She glared back at him, refusing to yield.
"Reflect on yourself," the man said, pulling the door open and walking out.
Suddenly, a cry of surprise came from outside the door: "Brother, why are you coming out of Gu Fangyu’s room?"
Gu Yao looked shocked. Wasn't her brother supposed to hate Gu Fangyu the most? Why was he in her room at this hour?
Inside the bedroom, Gu Fangyu heard the voice and thought, *Oh no.* She never expected the two of them to run into each other. It was exactly what she feared most.
She took a deep breath and followed him out.
"Gu Fangyu, what did you call my brother into your room for behind Mom and Dad’s back?" Gu Yao said, craning her neck to peer inside, desperate to find some leverage.
"Are you feeling better?" Gu Hanchen’s tall frame blocked the doorway, offering no chance for her to enter.
Gu Yao withdrew her gaze, still unwilling to let it go. "Brother, you clearly hate her more than anyone in this family. Why are you hanging around in her room?"
"Weren't you supposed to be with Xie Chenhao? Why are you making a scene here?" the man’s voice lowered.
Although Gu Yao was dissatisfied, she was ultimately afraid of him and dared not push further. Before leaving, she didn't forget to warn Gu Fangyu: "Gu Fangyu, my brother won't help you. Don't think he’s still that brother who will spoil you unconditionally. Don't set your sights on my brother."
"Which eye did you see me setting my sights on him with? He has his own legs; did I kidnap him?" Gu Fangyu, who had been silent, suddenly flared up.
Originally, she was terrified of their relationship being discovered, but she couldn't stand Gu Yao’s repeated provocations.
"You..."
"What? Aside from throwing tantrums and making wild assumptions, are you going to say that not only am I pregnant, but the child is your brother’s?" Gu Fangyu was so angry she had lost all sense of propriety.
