Chapter 5: A Little Special Treatment for a Friend

Arriving at the familiar office, she knocked softly twice.
“Come in.”
Angus’s cold voice came from inside.
The man was still reviewing documents as usual, his dark green long hair, rarely tied up, giving him a surprisingly gentler appearance at first glance.
Just an illusion.
Could it be that the strange boss had a date?
Once inside, Wen Li felt no gaze from her superior and relaxed slightly.
Wen Li: “Boss, is there something you need?”
Her soft voice interrupted Angus’s reading.
He lifted his dark green, serpentine eyes to look at the blonde girl standing not far away.
“Wen Li.”
Receiving the signal, Wen Li sat down in front of her boss, lowering her head to avoid his gaze.
After all, he had recently used his spiritual form to scare her.
Angus, wearing white gloves, couldn’t help but rub his hands through the fabric.
The office fell silent for a moment.
Wen Li scratched her head nervously, wondering what was wrong with this man.
After a moment’s thought, Angus crossed his hands, resting his chin on them before saying, “A week has passed, and your performance has been very good.”
If Wen Li could speak, she would have complained already—how could she not be excellent after working overtime every day?
But the next sentence wiped the smile off her face.
“So the White Tower has decided to assign you a task.”
Wen Li looked up, surprised.
Angus seemed satisfied, his eyes narrowing with pleasure.
Wen Li: “Boss, are you mistaken? My probation period isn’t even over yet...”
Angus stood up, the rhythmic sound of his boots hitting the floor felt like steps pressing on Wen Li’s heart.
“Miss, this task is not the White Tower’s doing. Have you ever wondered why a disabled guide is allowed to stay here?”
Sitting upright, Wen Li clenched her hands tightly—she should have realized how simple the original owner’s identity was.
Angus stood behind her, placing his hands on her shoulders.
“This task is simple. You only need to escort a sentinel to the White Tower. Departure is in three days.”
Wen Li resisted, moving her arm slightly and whispered, “If the task is so simple, they wouldn’t send a guide.”
Angus gently stroked her soft golden hair.
“Yes, I actually don’t want you to go. After all, you are so fragile...”
Her hair was pulled away, her palm left empty.

The girl puffed up, thinking about something, like a little pufferfish.
Angus’s stern face seemed to break into a slight smile. He turned and took out a box, handing it to Wen Li.
Looking at the man before her, her vision uneven, the tall figure surprisingly crouched down to meet her eye level.
He pressed a metal box into her hand.
Their eyes met, and Wen Li caught a faint trace of worry deep in his eyes.
Angus: “Stabilizer.”
Wen Li knew this—it was the latest black technology from the Union. When a sentinel goes berserk, a single injection immediately calms them.
Such a precious drug—where did Angus get it?
Wen Li pocketed it and made her own request.
“Pay me.”
Angus knew this little guide was unlike other healers; she was short on money.
Otherwise, with her surname, she wouldn’t be working at the White Tower.
Angus rose and returned to his chair, not answering her request but continuing, “I heard your appointments are hard to get.”
Wen Li blushed slightly and whispered, “You flatter me, sir.”
Angus: “Do you know what rumors are spreading outside?”
His spiritual form appeared—a small dark green snake lazily sprawled across the desk. Seeing Wen Li, it stuck out its tongue.
Originally hoping to come over and snuggle with Wen Li, but the owner forbade it, so it boredly played with its tail.
Angus rested one hand on his head, the other pressing on the snake’s tail as it flailed about, murmuring flirtatiously:
“A new arrival has come to the White Tower...”
“A little cake.”
Little... little cake!?
Wen Li’s already red face turned an even deeper shade.
What nonsense—white tower sentinels really have nothing better to do!!!
Leaving the office, Wen Li’s mind was filled with the memory of Angus’s dark green eyes.
But there was good news that made her very happy.
She was finally going to get paid!
Her inner self bit the handkerchief, tears in her eyes, whispering, “Finally some money!”
Three days later, Wen Li prepared and boarded a spaceship bound for CT-20 Prison.
Here, sentinels with a mutation index as high as 90% were detained.
Black rain fell heavily. Wen Li looked down to see an endless forest, oppressive as an inescapable cage.
Sitting beside her was Karl, the mission’s commanding officer.
Wen Li remembered him well—the sentinel with a lion spiritual form. Her first spiritual link had been with him...
A blonde, blue-eyed foreign man in a neat combat uniform, black boots wrapping his strong calves, multiple weapons hanging from his waist.
Frequent glances made Wen Li raise her eyes to meet his gaze.

The blonde sentinel hurriedly looked down, wiping a dagger.
Wen Li looked out the window, thinking: strange man.
They maintained a quiet silence.
Soon they arrived. The massive silver spaceship landed on the platform, surrounded by many sentinels armed and alert.
Karl was in charge of the handover. Wen Li’s identity was confidential, so she did not disembark.
She saw a huge, steel rectangular object about the height of three men being pushed onto the ship.
That must be the escort target.
Fingering the stabilizer in her pocket, Wen Li knew this mission would not be simple.
The spaceship followed a fixed route.
“Knock knock, Miss, lunch is ready.”
A crisp youthful voice came from outside. Wen Li opened the door and saw him.
A sentinel with black and white streaked hair, brimming with youthful energy, stood waiting.
Wen Li’s eyes widened in surprise. “It’s you, Iron-Eater!”
Yue Li curved his dark eyes, smiling warmly at her.
“Hello, Little Butterfly.”
On the way, the boy chatted freely with Wen Li.
His words were not intrusive; his witty and humorous conversation put her at ease.
They soon arrived at the dining hall.
The boy pulled out a chair, gesturing for Wen Li to sit, introducing himself, “I’m Yue Li, a current medical soldier of the White Tower.”
“I’m Wen Li, still on probation at the White Tower.”
Yue Li handed her the menu: “Miss Wen, you’re so famous. All the sentinels at the White Tower are scrambling to get purified by you.”
Wen Li looked down awkwardly at the menu: “No, I just arrived.”
Yue Li rested his hands on his head, tilting it as he looked at her and sighed.
“I want to get purified by you too, but medical soldiers have low points. You’re so popular—when will I ever get an appointment with you?”
His dark eyes drooped sadly. With his youthful demeanor, the sigh made Wen Li feel like a protective older sister to an underdog little brother.
Looking around to make sure no one was paying attention, Wen Li leaned forward, covering her mouth, whispering: “I can give you special treatment—consider it a gift from me, your first friend at the White Tower.”
Yue Li’s eyes darkened.
Making friends with a sentinel—a naïve little guide.
Then he excitedly looked up, surprised, leaning forward and lowering his voice: “Really?”
Wen Li quickly nodded, “Mm-hmm!”
