Chapter 141: Exposing Xu Wei's True Colors!
He had just received the text message from Wang Xiaolong.
It contained both video and text—conclusive evidence that Xu Wei’s mission was exactly what had transpired today. Consequently, even after Zhang Yanhong had left, she persisted in her delusion, attempting to sow confusion and mislead everyone. Unable to tolerate it any longer, he decided to expose her true colors, hoping to wake Lan Ruoxue up once and for all. Only by eliminating this internal threat could he focus on the production of the new medicine.
"You good-for-nothing, what are you spouting?"
Seeing Ye Wushang turn the tables on her, Xu Wei’s rage flared. "You were the one who introduced the medicine supplier. You drove Zhang Yanhong away, and you were the one who claimed that producing the new medicine would cause public panic. Now you’re accusing me? What’s your game? Are you trying to shift the blame onto me? Let me tell you, I won't take the fall for this!"
Lan Ruoxue, already in a fragile state, had completely given up on the new medicine the moment Zhang Yanhong walked out. While Ye Wushang had picked up the pieces, it wasn't out of faith in him; she simply had no hope left for the project at all. Xu Wei was not only her subordinate but also a close friend. Hearing Ye Wushang "barking like a mad dog," she was incensed.
"Ye Wushang, don't go too far!" she scolded. "What does this have to do with Xu Wei? From beginning to end, you’ve been the one causing trouble! I respect President An, but that doesn't mean you can use her backing to run wild here!"
An Lan’s expression shifted. She knew Ye Wushang well. He never fought a battle he wasn't prepared for, and his words were like spilled water—final, and spoken with full responsibility.
"Lan Ruoxue, don't be so quick to jump to conclusions," An Lan said, gripping Ye Wushang’s arm. "Listen to what Wushang has to say; I believe he has his reasons."
Ye Wushang nodded, staring straight at Xu Wei. "Xu Wei, I’ll give you one last chance. Are you going to admit to this yourself, or should I do it for you?"
"Admit your sister!" Xu Wei cut him off, convinced her actions were flawless and that no pearls of wisdom could come from the mouth of such a "useless waste." Assuming he was just trying to pin the blame on her, she sneered contemptuously, "I, Xu Wei, have always acted with integrity. I’ve done nothing to be ashamed of. What do you want me to admit? I’m warning you, stop changing the subject. Zhang Yanhong is gone, and you’ve promised in front of everyone to produce the new medicine. If you can't deliver it on time, or if the quality is flawed, you will bear full responsibility!"
"You really don't shed tears until you see the coffin," Ye Wushang sighed. He pulled out his phone and played an audio clip.
A conversation filled the room—the voices of Xu Wei and Zhang Yanhong. In the recording, Xu Wei revealed who the boss of the Medicine King Pharmaceutical supply chain was and dissected the grudge between Xue Kaichen and Zhang Yanhong in detail. Ultimately, she goaded Zhang into defecting to another company, promising better pay, more room for growth, and a bright future. They even conspired that the moment Zhang resigned, Xu Wei would leave the Lan Group herself.
"Just wait and see," the recording continued. "The Lan Group will be finished before long. Even the An family, who are cooperating with them, won't have a good time. That bitch Lan Ruoxue treats me like a dog every day; let’s see how much longer she can act so arrogant!"
Boom!
Hearing the final sentence, Lan Ruoxue felt as if she had been struck by lightning. She stared at Xu Wei in disbelief. "Xu Wei, you... you actually betrayed me?" She pointed at her, trembling with rage.
Xu Wei shook her head frantically, muttering to herself, "Impossible, this is impossible. Where did this recording come from? How could it have been recorded? This shouldn't be..."
"Slap!"
An Lan rushed forward and delivered a sharp blow to her face. Xu Wei lost her balance and fell to the floor.
"You wretch!" An Lan hissed. "President Lan treated you so well, and yet you bite the hand that feeds you? You instigated Zhang Yanhong to resign, caused the clients to turn on us, and even dragged my An family into this mess..."
"That’s not all," Ye Wushang interrupted, playing a video.
The footage showed that just last night, Xu Wei had returned to the office, snuck into Lan Ruoxue’s room, and used her account password to access the internal network. She had quickly published information regarding the new medicine's launch in the name of the Lan Group, bolstered by the backing of the An Group. In just one night, she had drummed up over ten thousand pre-orders.
"Slap!"
Lan Ruoxue, consumed by fury, stepped forward and struck Xu Wei’s other cheek.
"Xu Wei, why would you do this to me?" Lan Ruoxue cried. "You drove Zhang Yanhong away so the medicine couldn't be made, then you set up these pre-orders online and took people's money. When we can't deliver, we’ll be guilty of breach of contract. The money is a small matter, but it will completely destroy our company’s image. You... you were trying to bankrupt the Lan Group!"
Lan Ruoxue was weeping. In her life, she had only cried three times: when her grandmother passed away, when she divorced Ye Wushang—even if he was incompetent, she knew she had wronged him—and now. She had never viewed Xu Wei as a subordinate, but as a sister. When Xu Wei needed money, Lan gave it to her; when she needed love, Lan even helped her find a boyfriend. She never expected that in the end, her kindness would be repaid with deception and betrayal. She couldn't accept it.
"No, no, President Lan, I was framed!" Facing the ironclad evidence, Xu Wei still refused to concede. She begged Lan Ruoxue while pointing at Ye Wushang. "It’s this waste! He framed me! These videos and audio files are fake—he probably synthesized them using my voice! Or he used photo-editing to frame me. I’ve been loyal to the Lan Group; I could never betray you..."
"Do you think the evidence Wang Xiaolong provided could be fake?" Ye Wushang asked, waving his phone and pointing to the contact number on the screen. "You recognize this number, don't you? Should I call him over for a face-to-face confrontation?"
"What?" Xu Wei gasped in shock. "How... how are you in contact with Wang Xiaolong? He was the one who instigated me to cooperate with Pei Huaide. How could he turn around and betray me?"
She regretted her words the moment they left her lips. In her agitation, she had confessed.
"You wretch!" Lan Ruoxue lunged at her and slapped her repeatedly. Grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking her, she demanded, "Why? Why do this to me? Wasn't I good enough to you? Wasn't the money enough? You betrayed me! You’re not human—you’re an animal!"
Lan Ruoxue’s face was streaked with tears, her composure shattered.
Xu Wei, terrified, instinctively knelt and clutched Lan Ruoxue’s legs. "President Lan, I’m sorry, I know I was wrong! I was just confused, I was deceived by others; I’m a victim too. Please, give me one more chance. I promise this will never happen again..."
"Get out!" Lan Ruoxue kicked her away, heartbroken. "You want another chance? Xu Wei, I really misjudged you! Guards, take her away and send her to the police station! I want her to pay for what she’s done!"
Two security guards immediately stepped forward, hoisted her up, and hauled her away. No matter how Xu Wei pleaded, Lan Ruoxue remained unmoved.
"It seems Wushang was not lying," An Lan said, her tone light but pointedly directed at Lan Ruoxue. "It was a case of bad judgment in personnel that allowed someone to exploit the situation."
Lan Ruoxue had slowly calmed down. She looked at Ye Wushang, feeling deeply ashamed. She had just assumed he was trying to shift blame, never imagining that Xu Wei had truly betrayed her. He had secured solid evidence and brought the truth to light; otherwise, she would still be in the dark. Regret, frustration, and shame washed over her. She walked toward Ye Wushang, opening her mouth several times to apologize, but she didn't know how to begin.
"Enough. The internal threat is solved. Now, we must resolve the issue of the new medicine." Ye Wushang didn't need an apology. At least, not from her. Since the moment she filed for divorce, they were destined to have no connection. Had it not been for An Lan, he wouldn't have bothered with today's events at all.
"The production of the medicine isn't the problem. The difficulty lies in the core data for the medicinal herb sorting," Ye Wushang said, taking a deep breath. "When Zhang Yanhong left, she was empty-handed. That data should be in her office, right? It’s a trade secret, a confidential file; she shouldn't have taken it. If I can get that core data, I’m confident I can finish on time and in the required quantities."
With that, he walked toward the main hall.
An Lan looked at Lan Ruoxue with a playful smile. "You misjudged Wushang before, and now you've misjudged Xu Wei. As a business partner, I think you have a lot of room for improvement. As a woman, I think you’ve been very foolish. You should reflect on this."
She then followed after Ye Wushang.
Lan Ruoxue felt a flush of shame, her face burning as she watched Ye Wushang’s retreating back, lost in thought. *Could it be that I really misjudged him? Is he not a useless waste after all, but someone with genuine ability? Will I really lose the bet against An Lan?*
She had been so certain before. Now, she was completely lost.
