Chapter Thirty: Why Is He So Spineless?
"I've heard about his foolish sister—rumor has it she's not quite right in the head, isn't she?"
"Not only does she need someone to help her eat and sleep, she can't even control herself... utterly incontinent."
"Ugh, do you smell that? There's a stench of urine and feces—so foul!"
As he spoke, Sun Chuanzhi waved his hand in front of his nose, his face twisted in disgust.
"Ahem."
Hearing this, Ye Wuyou's cheeks flushed crimson. She bowed her head in silent shame, unable to suppress a cough brought on by her agitation.
She had only just awakened; every aspect of her body was still adjusting, and strong emotions could easily disrupt her internal organs.
Ye Wushang's heart ached for her. He quickly steadied her, murmuring words of comfort, then looked up and glared at Sun Chuanzhi, barking, "Sun Chuanzhi, are you looking for trouble?"
Remembering all his sister had endured, Ye Wushang's anger flared. As he rebuked the man, his fists clenched unconsciously, knuckles crackling.
"What, you think you can hit me?"
Sun Chuanzhi's expression was mocking. Far from intimidated, he stepped forward, sneering, "Open your eyes and look around—do you know where you are, who I am?"
"You dare challenge me? Do you even have the strength?"
"Don't talk about hitting me—even if you so much as touch a finger, I'll ruin you."
"Keep glaring at me, and I'll have you thrown into the sea to feed the fish—believe it or not."
With that, he shoved Ye Wushang.
Ye Wushang was furious, about to retaliate, but his sister suddenly tugged at his sleeve, whispering, "Let it go, brother. We can't afford to provoke him."
"This house isn't ours. Let's leave, quickly..."
Ye Wuyou's voice was nearly pleading, her cough worsening.
She knew her brother's love for her, but the other party was powerful. After finally reuniting, she was terrified of losing everything again.
She could endure hardship and toil; what she feared was harm coming to her family.
As long as her brother was with her, she'd rather live in a thatched hut than lose him.
"Get out of here, you useless fool. All you can do is glare and blow your beard."
"If not for important business today, I'd kill you right now!"
"You put me in the constabulary, beat my brother—old scores and new, I'll settle them all with you!"
Sun Chuanzhi cursed unrestrainedly, hands in his pockets.
"Enough, Chuanzhi. There's no point talking to trash."
"Let's go. Don't let these two ruin our mood."
Zhao Xiue, unwilling to spend another moment in the siblings' presence, pulled Sun Chuanzhi toward the residential complex.
Lan Ruoxue sighed deeply, her tone earnest: "Wushang, I'll say it again—there's no future for us."
"I've already dealt with Wang Jiaolong for you. I hope you take care of yourself from now on."
"Three strikes and you're out—if you cause trouble again, or harbor any thoughts about me, don't blame me for disregarding the bond between us."
"Panlong Mansion... isn't a place for someone like you."
With that, she quickened her pace, heels clicking, following the other two into the estate.
Ye Wushang watched their retreating figures, his face dark.
He hadn't expected that, after resolving the Wang Jiaolong matter himself, she would still rather believe Sun Chuanzhi's side of things.
Did she truly see him as completely worthless?
He was only here as a bodyguard for An Lan, and happened to run into them—yet they thought he was stalking her, seeking reconciliation?
To be so ignorant, it was truly extraordinary.
Suddenly, he felt grateful—grateful that they had divorced...
"Wuyou, wait."
Ye Wushang held his sister firmly, speaking solemnly, "I'm not lying to you. I'm really the owner here. From now on, we'll live here..."
"Brother!"
His sister raised her voice, tears streaming down her face. "I'm begging you, please?"
"I don't care about pride or appearances. For me, family together is more important than anything."
"This place is so expensive, and you've divorced your wife—how could you afford a house here?"
"That friend you mentioned—he doesn't exist, does he?"
Seeing her desolate expression, Ye Wushang's heart broke.
He wanted to argue, but seeing her flushed cheeks and trembling form, he swallowed his words.
Just then, two security guards, fearing Ye Wushang might cause trouble, hurried forward to urge them, "Enough of your tragic act. Move along, or else—"
"Stop!"
Suddenly, the security chief who'd gone to verify ownership rushed over!
With two crisp slaps, he stunned the guards, who clutched their aching faces, bewildered. "Chief, why..."
"Hurry, apologize to Mr. Ye!"
The chief glared fiercely, then bowed ninety degrees, respectfully returning the keys to Ye Wushang. "Mr. Ye, apologies."
"A misunderstanding—an honest mistake."
"You are indeed the owner of Villa 101, and our most distinguished client at Panlong Mansion."
"It's entirely my fault for failing to recognize you. Please forgive me."
Boom!
The guards were dumbstruck.
He really was the owner.
Villa 101 was the most luxurious here, worth nearly a billion.
Owners here were all powerful and wealthy figures.
To possess the most expensive villa—he must have an extraordinary background.
Damn it.
Dressed like this at home—was he playing at being the underdog?
Thank goodness the chief went to verify his identity. If they'd actually acted against him, they'd never know how they'd died.
They were nobodies—offending the powerful, one move of a finger could spell doom for their entire families.
"Sorry, Mr. Ye. We were wrong."
"I accept responsibility and am remorseful. Whatever you need to vent your anger, just say the word."
The guards bowed repeatedly, clearly terrified.
Ye Wushang's face remained cold. If not for his sister, he wouldn't have let them off so easily.
After a terse rebuke, he led his sister into the estate.
...
Within the complex.
Sun Chuanzhi led Zhao Xiue and her daughter to a stand-alone apartment halfway up the hill.
Birdsong filled the air, flowers bloomed, the atmosphere far superior to the other residential blocks.
"Chuanzhi, you are truly capable—able to purchase a property here. With the location and scenery, it must be worth a fortune."
Even just standing below, Zhao Xiue could sense the allure of wealth.
Not only had the Sun family helped the Lan family, they'd generously supported her daughter's career.
She genuinely liked Sun Chuanzhi, and seeing that useless man earlier, she wished she could persuade her daughter to divorce him immediately.
"Auntie, you're too kind. It cost just over twenty million—not that expensive. If you like it, I'll give you the house!"
Seeing Zhao Xiue's envious expression, Sun Chuanzhi smiled, then looked higher up the hill, remarking, "My apartment is better than most, but for true luxury and quality, nothing compares to Villa 101 at the summit."
"No idea whose family had the audacity to buy it. As far as I know, even money isn't enough; you need high status."
Mother and daughter looked up.
On the mountaintop, the villa seemed to pierce the clouds, shrouded in mist, full of mystery.
Nestled amid the woods, it commanded a view over all below.
Just a glance revealed its exceptional location—impossible not to envy.
At that moment, two familiar figures appeared on the road leading to Villa 101.
"Hmm?"
Zhao Xiue's face darkened, frowning, "Isn't that useless Ye Wushang? How did he get in?"
Sun Chuanzhi saw them too, his smile freezing.
Lan Ruoxue was equally astonished, muttering, "Didn't I tell him there's no hope for us?"
"And with security at the gate, how did they get inside? Are the guards not doing their jobs?"
Zhao Xiue pondered briefly, then exclaimed, "Could that useless man actually be an owner here?"
"Otherwise, why would the guards let him in? Security is very strict here..."
"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!"
Sun Chuanzhi shook his head vigorously, protesting, "The prices here are over tens of thousands per square meter—even my purchase was only possible because my father helped. That useless man—how could he possibly afford it?"
"In my opinion, he must have sneaked in. Dragging his foolish sister as a cover—he's here to steal!"
Zhao Xiue agreed bitterly, "It's one thing to be useless, but to be so dishonest as well..."
"Come, let's follow them and see which house they're targeting. Once we have proof, I'll call the police!"
With that, Sun Chuanzhi strode after them.
Last night, that useless man had landed him in the constabulary for a night—an unbearable humiliation.
Now, with this opportunity, he wouldn't let it slip.
"See, you never should have listened to your grandfather and married that fool."
"I told you to divorce him early, but you wouldn't listen—now, after the divorce and without the Lan family's protection, his true colors are showing."
Zhao Renfang glared at Lan Ruoxue, following close behind.
Lan Ruoxue hesitated to speak. She hadn't expected Ye Wushang to be so spineless.
Without the Lan family, he couldn't survive?
A grown man, healthy and able-bodied—why couldn't he find honest work?
Even if he wanted a better life for his sister, he should earn it himself, not resort to petty theft.
She resolved to give him whatever was due from the divorce, and after that, cut ties with him forever.
