Chapter Thirty-Three: The Mysterious Man with Glasses
“Yes, Mr. Ye,” the bald man nodded.
He led two men forward and personally pinned Sun Chuanzi down.
“Let me go!” Sun Chuanzi struggled defiantly. “On what grounds are you arresting me?”
“I am the young master of the Sun family, a second-tier clan. Even if I were at fault—which I’m not—it’s not your place to lay a hand on me!”
“That’s right!” Zhao Xiu’e chimed in, glaring at Ye Wushang and scolding, “You useless fool, stop waving a chicken feather like it’s a command baton!”
“So you managed to become some lousy head of security, and now look at you, acting so high and mighty. Listen up: let them release Chuanzi right now, or you’ll have hell to pay!”
Ye Wushang remained unimpressed, his tone cold. “What are you all standing around for? Get on with it!”
“Ye Wushang!” Blue Ruoxue could no longer stay silent. She spoke solemnly, “This is all a misunderstanding. If you hadn’t acted so furtively, we wouldn’t have suspected you!”
“No matter what, Chuanzi’s brother is about to marry Ruoshuang. If you do this, both the Blue and Sun families will be humiliated.”
“I know you hate Chuanzi, but you can’t use your position to settle personal scores.”
“For my sake, couldn’t you just let Chuanzi go?”
Settle personal scores?
Ye Wushang’s expression grew sharp.
In her eyes, was he really so petty and low?
“He can stay,” Ye Wushang took a deep breath and pointed at Sun Chuanzi. “But he must apologize to me.”
“Remember, it must be sincere.”
He was not actually granting Blue Ruoxue face—not truly. It was only that there were still a few minutes before the auction began, and all the bidders had already arrived.
During the earlier altercation with Sun Chuanzi, he had noticed someone behaving oddly. Near the doorframe, a bespectacled man, well-groomed and under thirty, had shifted his gaze every time Sun Chuanzi made a move.
He recalled that, earlier in the clubhouse, the poisoned food and drink had come from Sun Chuanzi.
His instinct told him that this undercover agent, who was about to act, must be connected to Sun Chuanzi. Perhaps Sun Chuanzi wasn’t the mastermind, but the Sun family was certainly involved.
“What?” Sun Chuanzi’s eyes widened in outrage. “You want me to apologize to you? Dream on!”
Zhao Xiu’e continued to curse and grumble beside him.
But Ye Wushang’s focus was entirely on the man with glasses. Raising his voice, he declared, “If you won’t apologize, get out!”
A faint creak.
The man with glasses moved—his eye twitched, his body trembled slightly.
Signs of nervousness.
That made it almost certain: this man was the undercover agent.
If he really intended to act, he would probably use Sun Chuanzi’s hand to target Anlan!
“Chuanzi, perhaps you should step outside for now,” Blue Ruoxue suggested. “Let my mother and me stay here.”
At this moment, seeing Ye Wushang’s resolute attitude, Blue Ruoxue was helpless.
Though she disliked his relentless, unforgiving manner, he held the upper hand now. Not wanting Sun Chuanzi to lose face and damage the relationship between the two families, she had to compromise and try to persuade him.
Sun Chuanzi, meanwhile, was burning with frustration.
He had invested so much to win Blue Ruoxue’s heart, to savor the beauty known as the Flower of Jinghan. If he were to fall just before dawn, he couldn’t accept it.
“No, I won’t leave.”
“The An family’s proxy rights depend on me helping you win them.”
“If I’m not here, won’t it all be for nothing?”
He clenched his teeth, his resolve hardening. “Ruoxue, for you, I’ll apologize!”
“Chuanzi…” Blue Ruoxue was stunned; she hadn’t expected he would make such a sacrifice for her.
Compared to Ye Wushang’s petty vindictiveness, Chuanzi seemed much more noble.
Clearly, her previous judgment of him had been mistaken.
“Chuanzi, you’re wonderful,” Zhao Xiu’e nodded in satisfaction, shooting Ruoxue a glance. “Honestly, what were you thinking?”
“You pass up such a good man and waste three years of your youth on that useless fool.”
“You still cling to your marital bond and defend him everywhere, but he gives you no respect in return.”
“If you dare help him again, I won’t let you off!”
Blue Ruoxue said nothing.
Sun Chuanzi, meanwhile, felt secretly triumphant.
Though apologizing to Ye Wushang was humiliating, earning Ruoxue’s favor made it worthwhile.
“Ye Wushang, I’m sorry.”
He strolled up to Ye Wushang and said it with casual indifference.
“An apology should come with sincerity!” Ye Wushang raised his voice.
By now, he was nearly certain: the man with glasses was the undercover agent, and there was a good chance Sun Chuanzi would be used as a tool.
But the exact method remained to be seen.
“Ye Wushang, I’m sorry. I misunderstood you.”
“You’re not a thief—I slandered you. I was wrong, all right?”
Sun Chuanzi endured the humiliation, lowering his head even further.
“If you spread rumors again, it won’t be so easy next time,” Ye Wushang remarked coolly. He picked up a decorative item and moved aside.
The others, reassured by the bald man, took their seats.
“That useless fool, so full of himself,” Zhao Xiu’e muttered. “Chuanzi, you should find an opportunity to teach him a lesson.”
“He may not be a thief, but he’s still shameless. Look at how smug he was just now…”
She continued to complain, but Blue Ruoxue quickly pulled her aside, shaking her head. “Let it go, Mom. I’ll pretend I never knew him.”
“I finally see it now—Ye Wushang is hot-tempered, petty, and loves to settle scores.”
“I must have been blind to live with him for three years.”
Sun Chuanzi understood.
Blue Ruoxue still felt some lingering affection for Ye Wushang as her husband.
Her request for him to apologize had put an end to whatever remained between them.
At such a moment, he kept his composure and soothed her. “Yes, Ruoxue is right.”
“If I stoop to his level, wouldn’t I be just as bad?”
“As long as he doesn’t provoke me again, I won’t bother with him. But if he tries anything, I’ll go all out and make sure he regrets it!”
Seeing Sun Chuanzi so reasonable, Blue Ruoxue gave him a grateful look and nodded. “Thank you, Chuanzi.”
“It’s nothing, really,” Sun Chuanzi smiled and nodded, sipping his tea.
He appeared unconcerned, but inside, his hatred for Ye Wushang ran deep.
Not only had he failed to destroy him, but Ye Wushang had managed to turn the tables, forcing him to apologize publicly.
If he didn’t reclaim his dignity, how could he face anyone in the future?
He resolved in his heart: after the matter of the proxy rights was settled, he would find someone to deal with Ye Wushang properly!
…
“Baldy, come here.”
After resolving the security risk in the hall, Ye Wushang sat in a corner and called over the bald man, who was patrolling.
“Mr. Ye, what are your instructions?”
Ye Wushang pointed at the man with glasses and Sun Chuanzi. “When the auction begins, keep an eye on those two.”
“Every word, every movement, even the smallest gesture—watch them and report to me immediately.”
The bald man frowned, glancing at the pair in confusion. “Mr. Ye, do you mean those two might pose a threat to the young lady?”
“I’m not sure, but there’s definitely something suspicious.”
“Don’t ask further. Just keep watch. Best if you can switch the surveillance cameras to focus on them, and monitor their every move.”
“If anything happens, report to me via earpiece.”
“Remember: this stays between us—no one else, not even Anlan, is to know.”
Seeing Ye Wushang’s certainty, the bald man, though he hadn’t noticed anything unusual himself, trusted the expert. He was just a subordinate; whatever orders he was given, he’d follow.
“Mr. Ye, rest assured, I’ll make arrangements right away.”
“This matter is known only to heaven, you, and me—not a third soul.”
Then, he leaned in and whispered, “Also, I feel you’re very much like our old boss, Ghost Hand.”
“Working under you is comfortable.”
“I heard you’re only here as a temporary bodyguard and will leave afterward?”
“I hope you’ll reconsider. The young lady faces internal and external troubles—she has many difficulties.”
“I’ve known her for years, and never once have I seen her smile. But in your presence, she’s smiled at least four or five times.”
With those words, he walked away.
Ye Wushang, meanwhile, was unsettled and a little dazed.
What did it mean that she had smiled several times in front of him?
Now his sister was awake.
In just a few hours, he would know the truth about his origins.
He could not afford to be entangled in mundane affairs; he feared he could not grant the bald man’s request!
…
