Chapter Ten: The Divine and Demonic of Gastronomy
A powerful surge of black light flashed, and Nan Luo, dressed in a blue Daoist robe, slowly appeared within the teleportation array of the Kirin City.
As soon as Nan Luo stepped out of the teleportation array, he saw seven Windrunner Beasts, harnessed to a grand chariot, waiting obediently outside the formation, clearly in anticipation of their esteemed Golden Immortal guest.
The Windrunner Beast, one of the mounts of the Kirin Clan, was known for its speed and gentle temperament, making it ideal for riding.
With a flicker, the blue-robed Daoist instantly appeared atop the chariot.
Sensing their honored guest had boarded, the Windrunner Beasts took to the air, drawing the chariot toward the central district beyond the teleportation zone.
Chariots from the primordial era, though outwardly appearing only ten meters in size, concealed within an immense hall spanning ten thousand miles, thanks to the vast quantities of Void Divine Stones used inside, and the space-folding techniques that shrank the interior.
Seated upon a throne of white jade, Nan Luo infused his divine sense into a floating crystal orb at the center of the hall.
Immediately, the crystal sphere radiated a dazzling array of colors, projecting above it a three-dimensional map of the Divine Kirin City.
Kirin City was divided into five major districts.
The Central, Northern, and Southern districts belonged exclusively to the Kirin Clan. No other beings were permitted entry. The Eastern district was reserved for foreign residents, while the Western district served as the trading hub for outsiders. Generally, outsiders only moved between the East and West.
Nan Luo carefully swept the map with his divine sense, committing the visible layout of Kirin City to memory.
Just as in Black Tortoise City, the teleportation array of Kirin City was located on a floating island within the central district.
The Windrunner Beasts delivered Nan Luo off the floating island, then turned and departed with the chariot.
Unless Nan Luo wished to converse with the Kirin Clan, he would not continue riding the chariot drawn by Windrunner Beasts.
Suspended in the sky, Nan Luo produced a palm-sized miniature divine ark, tossing it into the air.
In an instant, the miniature ark expanded into a mid-sized divine vessel, stretching for ten thousand miles.
Taking the main seat, Nan Luo steered the divine ark towards the Eastern district of Kirin City.
The ark transformed into a streak of azure light, speeding towards the east.
Along the way, Nan Luo gazed upon range after range of divine mountains, marveling inwardly at the vastness and might of Kirin City.
Unlike the endless aquatic palaces of Black Tortoise City, Kirin City was dominated by towering divine peaks, each rising thousands of meters into the clouds, with palaces built atop their summits.
Just along his route, Nan Luo had already counted no fewer than five thousand such peaks in the eastern district alone.
It was clear how formidable the Kirin Clan was, truly deserving their place among the three grand sovereign powers of the Central Wilderness.
After half a day’s flight, the ark finally halted before a divine mountain that pierced the heavens.
“At last!” Nan Luo exclaimed, producing a Water Spirit Divine Ring, his gaze complex as he looked up at a resplendent golden rune inscribed above: “Feast.”
Countless flying palaces, divine arks, chariots, and mighty beings mounted on demon beasts all transformed into streams of light, entering the mountain of “Feast.”
Nan Luo slipped on the Water Spirit Divine Ring, stowed away his ark, and, observing the thriving business of the Feast Mountain, chuckled and cursed under his breath, “Living in comfort, I see!”
Then, transforming into a beam of divine light, Nan Luo entered the Feast Mountain as well.
Only upon stepping into the “Feast God Hall” atop the mountain did Nan Luo truly appreciate just how bustling its business was.
The Feast God Hall boasted a hundred floors, with each floor containing a thousand rooms and a vast central hall. The higher the floor, the more exalted its status.
At this moment, over ninety percent of the rooms were already occupied, and the central halls on every floor were packed.
Graceful divine maidens, bearing platters of delicacies and jars of divine wine, weaved among the rooms and halls.
“Honored Immortal, what would you like to order?” The chief steward on the first floor, Hun Jing, smiled as he greeted the blue-robed Daoist approaching the counter.
Though he could not gauge this celestial’s depths, the aura of nobility that the immortal unconsciously exuded was testament enough to his power.
“A private room,” Nan Luo replied calmly.
“Xiao Wu, escort this honored immortal to Room 257 on the ninety-ninth floor,” Hun Jing immediately called to a young attendant.
Room 9527.
“Honored Immortal, may I take your order? We offer all manner of banquets here: whether a Complete Dragon Feast, a Full Phoenix Banquet, or even a Dragon-Phoenix Assembly, we have it all. If you can imagine it, we can prepare it,” Xiao Wu said respectfully, head bowed.
“Oh?” Nan Luo feigned surprise. “Then, bring me a Kirin Banquet.”
“A Kirin Banquet?” Xiao Wu’s legs suddenly went weak, and he managed a bitter smile. “Honored Immortal, we do not serve Kirin Banquets here.”
To offer Kirin Banquets in the very heart of the Kirin Clan’s territory would be courting death.
Though Xiao Wu knew his restaurant’s divine master was powerful—so much so that most Kirin Clan experts dared not make trouble at the Feast God Hall—even then, the divine master would never openly provoke the mighty Kirin Clan.
Should the Kirin Clan erupt in fury, even the divine master might have no choice but to flee.
“No? Didn’t you say you serve everything?” Nan Luo glared at Xiao Wu, his eyes flashing with anger.
With a crackling sound, frost began to form around Nan Luo, rapidly spreading throughout the room.
Under Nan Luo’s furious gaze, Xiao Wu felt as though he stood at the bottom of an endless icy abyss, unable even to breathe.
The frost crept onto Xiao Wu himself; his divine heart felt as if it would cease beating, his divine blood nearly frozen in his veins.
“So… so cold…” Xiao Wu shivered, clutching his divine form, that thought echoing in his mind.
“I will ask you once more—do you have it?” Nan Luo’s eyes were icy, his voice calm yet terrifying.
By now, Xiao Wu was covered head to toe in frost, yet still he trembled and answered respectfully, “No… no, we do not.”
Suddenly, a spring breeze swept through the room, melting away the frost in an instant.
The breeze warmed Xiao Wu as well, dispelling the chill from his body. He felt invigorated, vitality flooding every part of him, and to his astonishment, he realized he had unconsciously broken through from early to mid True God.
“Leave,” said a deep, magnetic voice by Xiao Wu’s ear.
At the sound, Xiao Wu’s face flushed with excitement, the joy of his breakthrough forgotten, and he bowed with utmost respect. “Yes, sir!”
He had only heard that voice once before, but would never forget it.
When the Feast God Hall first opened, many minor races and lone wanderers had tried to make trouble, only to be defeated by Hun Jing, the steward at the early God King stage.
Then one day, the fifth son of the Kirin Clan’s great elder arrived with his retinue to challenge the Feast God Hall. Though the fifth son was only at the mid Lord God stage, his bodyguard Qi Yan was a formidable mid God King.
Qi Yan defeated Hun Jing with just three moves, looking down upon the hall’s gods and coldly demanding, “Yield, or die?”
Just as all hope seemed lost, a deep, magnetic voice like today’s sounded: “Miserable wretch, courting your own doom!”
The words had barely faded when a giant black palm crashed down from the heavens, swiftly and brutally annihilating Qi Yan.
A Kirin Clan powerhouse, a mid God King, destroyed without chance to resist.
The fifth son and his followers were seized by the black hand and hurled down the mountain, never daring to return.
After Xiao Wu departed, Nan Luo gazed at the empty seat across from him and smiled. “God and Demon of Feast, it has been a long time.”
The main storyline was now beginning. The glorious era of Nan Luo’s conquest of all races and domination of the Great Wilderness was about to unfold.
