Chapter 41: A Visit
Just as David let out a long sigh of relief, the secure light-brain sent another message: “Let’s meet and discuss in person!”
This message came from Mr. Sturt’s account, addressed directly to Trainer Jeremy. Jeremy had his own account in the secure light-brain, but for David, who had full control over it, nothing could be hidden.
Soon, Trainer Jeremy replied: “Precise meeting, three days later at one o’clock in the afternoon!” He also included an address coordinate.
David opened the address and saw it was a small beverage shop.
Given the environment of Rock Star, natural drinks were considered luxury items in Peran City; nevertheless, this had led to the emergence of several shops specializing in them. For instance, the fruit and vegetable cultivation base beneath David’s residence could easily be turned into such a shop to earn more credit points. However, that was not part of his plans—he had long ceased to care about such meager amounts.
He noted the time and closed his identity bracelet.
Before bed that night, David practiced the Eighteen Forms of Physical Technique once more. Though the space in his bedroom was quite limited, he could clearly observe changes in his attribute panel.
After one round of practice, he found both his strength and constitution had increased to 3.02.
Ordinarily, mastery-level physical techniques shouldn’t belong to regular people, yet after David practiced, they yielded remarkable effects.
Without any enhancement serums—only enhanced meat—if he practiced the Eighteen Forms twice a day, each session increased his strength and constitution by 0.01, totaling 0.02 daily.
He calculated silently: if he continued with the level-one enhanced meat and daily practice, in just a little over ten days, he could reach the one-thousand-kilogram threshold required for a Warrior.
Of course, that assumed there were no bottlenecks. One thousand kilograms was the minimum standard for a Warrior, the dividing line between ordinary people and Warriors.
Without that strength, one simply couldn’t equip exoskeleton armor.
Filled with hope, David washed up and drifted into sleep.
The next morning, while David was practicing the Storm Warhammer Technique in the underground gym, his identity bracelet sounded an alert—an approaching vehicle.
“Master, Manager Lucien of Lixin Security Company is here to visit!” came a message from the intelligent butler, Emma.
“Uncle Gallen, someone from Lixin Security Company has arrived!” David said to Gallen, who was instructing Myron by his side.
“You go handle it yourself, no need to be polite to them!” Gallen waved carelessly, then slapped Myron and barked, “You’re distracted again! Another mistake!”
David ignored Myron’s resentful gaze. Since six that morning, except for breakfast, they’d been training continuously; Myron was eager for a break.
Opening the door, David saw a cargo hovercar and a middle-aged man in business attire.
The man seemed extremely nervous, and upon seeing David, there was a hint of fear.
“Mr. David, I am Lucien, manager of Lixin Security Company in Peran City. I represent the company to apologize and bring compensation!” Lucien bent over humbly as he spoke.
Such familiar words—they echoed Supervisor Jixin’s visit last time.
David felt the urge to lose his temper, but saw several staff unloading items from the cargo car behind. With his mastery of electronic countermeasures, he instantly recognized components of a medium-sized server.
He almost wanted to ask, “Does a small city security company really need a medium-sized server as its main server?”
Actually, Lixin Security Company had no alternative. Due to Peran City’s security issues, most residents opted for premium systems to protect themselves. Competition among security companies was fierce; Lixin managed to become the largest by having a medium-sized server as their main unit, outpacing the rest.
If not for a crisis of survival, Lucien would never have parted with the medium-sized server as compensation.
What he feared wasn’t David, but the man behind him—Gallen.
“Mr. Lucien, welcome!” David greeted him with a polite smile.
He invited Lucien into the hall and offered him a seat.
“Mr. David, I’ve brought the main server. Please designate where you’d like it installed,” Lucien gestured toward the staff still unloading, and spoke to David.
Watching four or five staff carefully moving pieces for such a length of time, it was clear the server was sizable.
A medium-sized server wasn’t an ordinary light-brain—easy to move—it required professionals. Lucien had brought the sales service team for the server.
To have them come promptly, he paid a handsome sum in credit points.
“Thank you, Mr. Lucien. Install it in that vacant room,” David pointed to an empty room on the first floor.
Lucien nodded, whispered instructions to a nearby staff member, who then hurried out.
Soon, the server components were carried into the designated room one by one.
“Rest assured, Mr. David, they are all professionals. We’ll leave only after debugging the main server and granting you ultimate privileges,” Lucien explained.
“Emma, serve some juice!” David remembered he hadn’t entertained his guest and instructed Emma, the intelligent butler.
Lucien’s expression relaxed; he sensed David was easing up toward them.
Given Lixin Security Company’s current market share, surviving this ordeal was worth any cost.
Delivering the server was meant to earn David’s forgiveness. Judging by his attitude, it seemed to be working, and Lucien felt a heavy burden lift from his heart.
“Mr. David, here are some small accessories, a token from our company,” he placed a box on the coffee table and slid it toward David.
David opened it; inside were various components, not merely server parts, but also several specialized electronic devices.
He saw miniature scanners, mimic monitors, and signal blockers—all compact devices. These weren’t ordinary electronics; only authorized security companies could obtain such special-purpose equipment through certain channels.
The miniature scanner could be handheld, scanning for life forms within fifty meters of a building and displaying them elsewhere.
The mimic monitor could be placed anywhere; its built-in chip would analyze the surroundings and change color for camouflage.
While not true invisibility, it could make most people overlook it.
The signal blocker could completely isolate signals within a certain range—similar to what the Sirius Mercenary Group used in their first assault on David’s residence, though this one was even smaller.
The defining feature of these devices was their size—small enough for espionage—making them contraband in the market.
David, having absorbed knowledge of electronic countermeasures, was familiar with similar devices and casually fiddled with them.
Lucien’s lips curled with satisfaction; he saw that David was fond of these electronics.
Since Gallen had insisted on compensating David with the main server, Lucien deduced David must have a particular interest in electronic devices.
Otherwise, no matter how valuable a medium-sized server was, to an outsider it would just be a big light-brain.
Thus, he included three of his own private collectibles among the server accessories.
As a fellow enthusiast of electronics, Lucien guessed David would share his tastes, and reality proved him right.
“Mr. Lucien, I’m very pleased with these gifts!” David extended his right hand.
“Mr. David, I hope to maintain a good relationship with you. If you need any electronic devices, please come to me!” Lucien took David’s hand, smiling.
David’s interest wasn’t just in the gadgets themselves; Lucien’s gifts happened to include exactly what he needed.
