Chapter One Hundred Ten
"You are not from this world? I can understand you not being from the White Deer Republic, but what do you mean by saying you are not from this world?" Yuan Muye frowned, deep in thought as he pondered Li Daoran’s words.
"Exactly as it sounds. I don't know how I arrived here—transmigration, you understand? I can travel freely between two worlds: this one, and another one beyond it," Li Daoran replied.
"Are you sure this isn't just a delusion? Many people suffer from such conditions, believing they have transmigrated when, in reality, they are simply ill." Yuan Muye remained skeptical; anyone would find such nonsense hard to believe.
"I am telling the truth. I have been in this world for less than six months—well, about three or four months. The time ratio between here and my world is three to one. In other words, I have only actually been here for a little over a month," Li Daoran said.
"Then what is your world like? How do you travel between these two worlds, and how did you end up here? Most importantly, why are you telling me this?" Yuan Muye looked at the earnest Li Daoran, wondering if he was suffering from a serious mental condition. Had he misjudged the man?
Still, he continued to play along, knowing that those with mental illnesses fear being doubted; should he lose his mind, it would be a disaster. Of course, if Li Daoran’s claims were grounded in reason, it would undoubtedly open a new door for him.
"I come from a planet called Water Blue Star. My name there is also Li Daoran. Our technology is not as advanced as it is here; we are currently only a planetary civilization, unlike this place, which has already spanned across star systems. We are also human and look much the same. There are hundreds of countries on our planet. This place is more like a magnified version of Water Blue Star—even though the space is larger, there is still war and intrigue," Li Daoran explained.
"Hmm, you might really need to see a doctor. Theoretically, what you have said only reinforces the idea of a delusion—taking reality as a blueprint and becoming unable to extricate yourself from a virtual fantasy. Or perhaps you suffered some injury that caused these hallucinations," Yuan Muye said slowly.
"So, you need evidence, is that it?" A smile tugged at the corner of Li Daoran’s mouth. It was true; he had underestimated Yuan Muye if he thought a few simple sentences would convince him he was from another world.
"Yes, because the implications are too great. Every year, thousands of people imagine they have transmigrated, even speaking with great conviction, only to be proven wrong later. So, it is not that I do not believe you," Yuan Muye paused.
"I understand. After all, we have known each other for less than a day. If it were me, I wouldn't believe it either," Li Daoran interrupted.
"Then, where is your proof?" Yuan Muye stared at Li Daoran. He found himself wanting to believe, a flicker of excitement rising within him.
Li Daoran licked his lips and said, "Let’s start from the beginning. I was a sophomore at a university on Water Blue Star. One day, I was taking my usual afternoon nap at home, and then, I don't know how, I arrived in this world."
"The location, the time, and what happened after you arrived—don't give me 'I don't know how.' That makes it harder to believe you and sounds more like a fabricated lie," Yuan Muye interrupted, regaining his rigorous academic demeanor.
"Ah, don't be so impatient. If you want details, there will be plenty of opportunities. I have recorded every second since I arrived. If you want to know, I can even tell you how many freckles are on a person's face. Time is tight; just listen to me finish first," Li Daoran said.
"Records? Fine, go on," Yuan Muye frowned and prompted.
"When I woke up, I was on a flying bus, on the Silver Snake Star. You know it, right? Then, inexplicably, I ended up in a military camp. This body seems to have some status, but I don't know what, because Liu Meng treats me very differently. So we analyzed that this body must have a special identity," Li Daoran said, speaking of his own body as if it belonged to someone else.
"After that, in a daze, I was given a genetic injection..." Li Daoran recounted what happened after the injection and his return to Water Blue Star.
Once Li Daoran finished and returned to the narrative of the Silver Snake Star base, Yuan Muye interrupted again.
"In other words, in your world, the bodies of all humans are synchronized with this body—or rather, this body is synchronized with your body on Water Blue Star, and your body is synchronized with the humans on your planet?" Yuan Muye pondered the connection.
"Something like that. That’s why I can’t get hurt, not even a scratch. The consequences are severe. At first, I didn't even dare to move. That bastard Xiong Shan kept forcing me to do physical training, and I had to be careful not to bump or scrape myself. It was a real nightmare," Li Daoran nodded.
"Interesting. You say this situation is not impossible," Yuan Muye said, as if struck by a sudden thought.
"Do you know about the text in the Skynet? The text in the Skynet has a master template. Although there are hundreds of millions of these characters in different places, and they might even express different meanings, when the master template changes, all the characters change accordingly.
"However, this does not affect their essence; only their appearance changes. The text in the Skynet is displayed based on the text in our reality. In other words, if we make a character in reality a bit fatter or thinner, then over time, that character in the Skynet will inevitably change, and all instances of that character will take on a new look.
"This is just a simple analogy; you only need to grasp the meaning. What is happening to you is much more complex than this, but it is likely that this rhythm has simply been accelerated. Think of yourself as a symbol. Or even, think of your world, or this world, as a virtual world. Think about it carefully," Yuan Muye said slowly, feeling as if he had found the answer to his life's pursuit.
"I don't understand," Li Daoran said bluntly. Yuan Muye’s circular reasoning had left him confused.
"It doesn't matter if you don't understand. You have an entire world behind you, don't you? Then, just prove yourself." Yuan Muye set a silent test—a test not for Li Daoran, because he knew Li Daoran wouldn't grasp it, but if what Li Daoran said was true, there would inevitably be a satisfactory result.
"Fine, let them worry about those problems. What do you think of Chen Ming? The guy who threatened to kill me the moment he showed up," Li Daoran asked.
"That person is the one you mentioned who likes to take the blame, right?" Yuan Muye was no longer interested in this person, nor was he particularly interested in Li Daoran himself. He desperately wanted to communicate with the top scholars of the other world. He realized now that Li Daoran’s appeal did not lie in the man himself, but in the cultural world he represented.
Every move Li Daoran made revealed a sense of being out of place and contradictory to this world. This was the key to why people like Xu Xingxing, Yuan Muye, and Liu Meng were drawn to him.
