Chapter Thirteen: Wealth and Grandeur
"Blue Sky, I... I can't accept this!" Wang Ling looked at the already wrapped Vacheron Constantin women's watch. Joy sparkled in her eyes, but she shook her head repeatedly, refusing.
"Hmm? This watch looks so good, it suits you perfectly. Just take it, don't worry, the money's not stolen," Blue Sky replied, thinking Wang Ling was worried about the origin of the funds, completely unaware of what it meant to gift such an expensive watch to a woman.
"It's not that... Oh, forget it, I just can't take it!" Wang Ling bit her alluring lip, still shaking her head.
"Oh? What's wrong? This isn't like you, Lady Wang. Why so shy?" Blue Sky was puzzled, still not grasping the heart of the matter.
"I'm not being shy. It's just too valuable! Besides, we... we haven't reached that stage yet..." Wang Ling's cheeks blushed, her words halting and uncertain.
At last, Blue Sky understood, slapping himself on the forehead. "I really didn't think it through. I just thought it looked nice, so I bought it for you."
Wang Ling's pretty face remained flushed. She shot him a glance that clearly said, 'As if I'd believe that!'
"Honestly, I didn't think that much..." Blue Sky was embarrassed; he truly had no ulterior motive. He scratched his head, about to suggest a return, but then thought better of it. Returning the gift now would truly embarrass Wang Ling.
"I've already bought it. If you don't accept this gift, where will I put my old face? How about this—just wear it for now, think of it as me leaving it with you for safekeeping, okay?" Blue Sky tried to persuade her.
Wang Ling was tempted, but still hesitant.
Now she realized that Blue Sky was probably genuinely wealthy; he'd certainly been pretending to be poor before.
But even if he was rich, if it were only a few hundred or even a thousand, she wouldn't hesitate to accept. But this watch was worth over half a million—how could she not have doubts?
"Oh, come on, be decisive. These days, even giving a gift is difficult!" Blue Sky laughed, handing over the box. "Relax, it's just a gift, nothing more. Don't judge a gentleman with a petty mind."
"Ha! You're the petty one. I'll accept it, but let me tell you, it's just a gift, don't expect anything more from me!" Wang Ling was free-spirited—otherwise, she'd never have gone drinking at a bar alone. Provoked by Blue Sky, she snatched the box with a feigned calmness.
"Haha, expect what? Even if you agreed, maybe I wouldn't!" Blue Sky roared with laughter. He realized his own mistake: his attitude was that of a nouveau riche, buying anything that caught his eye.
"My actions were really a bit much earlier—maybe I made Wang Ling misunderstand." He thought to himself, but soon a solution came to mind.
Since things were this way, he might as well be even more extravagant—spend so much that she truly believes that fifty thousand means nothing to him, and the problem would be solved.
He hadn't realized that his solution was even more outrageous than a typical nouveau riche...
"Hmph!" Wang Ling snorted, ignoring him and walking ahead.
"Hey? Where are you going?" Blue Sky caught up and asked.
"We've bought everything. Aren't we leaving?" Wang Ling replied.
"Who said we're done? We're just getting started. My phone broke last night. Let's buy a new one first, then... let's stop by a car dealership. A real man should have a car, shouldn't he?" Blue Sky shook his head, smiling.
Wang Ling: "..."
"If your ex-girlfriend Li Mei knew you were so rich, she'd regret it so much!" Wang Ling was speechless. "Now I suspect you did it on purpose—pretended to be poor so you wouldn't have to deal with her anymore."
At the mention of his ex-girlfriend, Blue Sky's heart gave a painful jolt, his face darkening. "Don't say that again. I'm not as despicable as you think. It was her choice; no one else is to blame..."
In truth, he'd been so excited last night he couldn't sleep, and even entertained the idea of winning Li Mei back. Even now, he hadn't truly let her go, but in the end, he abandoned that thought.
If not for a stroke of luck—meeting Bai—he would still be a penniless nobody, and she would be marrying into wealth.
She didn't stand by him when times were tough; why should she share in his prosperity?
Wang Ling had never seen Blue Sky look so grim and was startled—she knew she'd said the wrong thing and pouted in embarrassment. "Alright, don't be mad. I was just joking, really..."
Blue Sky shook his head. "Sorry, it wasn't directed at you. Don't take it to heart."
"Mm, let's go. Let's buy a phone and put everything in the car. Isn't it tiring to carry it all?" Wang Ling saw his mood drop and quickly changed the subject.
Half an hour later, a rose-red BMW Z4 slowly pulled into the BMW dealership.
"This road is lined with all kinds of car dealerships, plus some smaller car lots. Just as well, my car needs maintenance. Once they take it, we can browse nearby stores," Wang Ling explained after getting out.
But why not look around the BMW dealership?
Because for Blue Sky, whose bank card held ninety million, brands like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi were mere street cars—he would never settle for them.
Once Wang Ling's car was taken in for maintenance, she led Blue Sky first to the Porsche dealership.
Though Porsche cars were excellent—the design, features, power, and brand culture were all top-notch, and the price wasn't cheap—they were, truthfully, also street cars.
Especially in Ning City, a metropolis teeming with wealthy people, Cayennes and Panameras weren't everywhere, but they were common enough; sometimes you could even see two or three Porsches driving side by side.
Clearly, this didn't fit Blue Sky's current nouveau riche mindset.
After circling the dealership, Blue Sky shook his head. "Let's go, let's check out some other places."
Wang Ling was exasperated. "You won't look at BMW, Mercedes, or Audi; you don't want Porsche. What do you want? Actually, BMW and Mercedes have high-end models that are just as good as the super luxury brands."
Blue Sky grinned, "I know, I know—BMW has the M series, Mercedes has AMG, and Audi has RS. They're all top-tier luxury cars, and I never said they were bad. In fact, all three are classic brands and there's nothing to fault. But what I want is something unique, something with personality. Young people need to show off a little now and then~"
"Fine, you're rich and willful! Let's skip the others and go straight to Ferrari and Maserati." Wang Ling rolled her beautiful eyes, resigned.
"What are we waiting for? Let's go~" Blue Sky said, full of enthusiasm, waving grandly.
