This plan was simple: transform this place into a haunted house, lure people here, and then let them stumble upon a fortune. Once they get their hands on all that money, they wouldn’t be able to control themselves. Eventually, the secret would leak, more people would find out, and come here. And then, heh heh heh, you can guess what happens next.

The first step was to turn this manor into a haunted house—no time to waste!

Feng Tianlin walked over and immediately sensed a strange presence throughout the estate. His heart jolted. Could it be that “guests” had arrived?

The spirits and monsters accompanying him also sensed it and followed him outside. Upon stepping out, Feng Tianlin was shocked.

Among the servants they had killed earlier, nearly half had transformed into eerie creatures. What was going on?

Based on previous experience, the odds of a dead person turning into such creatures were extremely low. These beings were all Grade G or Grade F, drifting about as if soulless within the castle. The moment Feng Tianlin appeared, they all stared at him in unison.

But this was not necessarily bad news for him. With these creatures, creating a haunted house would be much easier.

Decorating a haunted house wasn’t difficult—no need to tamper with the exterior, just make the interior frightening.

Just as he was thinking this, Long Mengting woke up.

“Woke up” wasn’t quite accurate, since her unconsciousness was caused by a clash between her internal energy and the energy of the Sun-Chasing Bow, which destabilized her powers and caused her to lose consciousness.

The moment she regained awareness, she immediately approached Feng Tianlin.

“What happened to me just now?”

Feng Tianlin, meanwhile, was contemplating how to renovate the castle.

“You probably tried to absorb the bow’s original power, failed, and then passed out,” Long Mengting said calmly.

She then extended her terrifying claw, and Feng Tianlin noticed a faint golden glow shimmering over it.

He grabbed her hand in surprise. “What’s this?”

Long Mengting withdrew her hand and retracted the claw. “I feel like a deity now.”

She raised her head with a hint of pride. “I am a god of the new era.”

Typical adolescent delusions.

“Have you gotten stronger?” Feng Tianlin asked, puzzled.

She shook her head. “Not yet.”

“Then what’s the point of the golden glow?” he pressed.

This time Long Mengting lowered her head and thought for a while before replying, “It just looks cooler, I guess.”

Ah, so it was just a useless special effect.

After showing off her “special effect” to Feng Tianlin, Long Mengting went off to boast to the Exploding Mad Bear and the others. Feng Tianlin didn’t bother and continued planning the haunted house.

He first made the room messier, then scattered the bodies of those servants who hadn’t turned into monsters, tearing them apart and placing fragments in every corner.

When he finished, he felt something was off but couldn’t put his finger on it.

Sighing, he muttered, “If only I had a reference point.”

Just then, Long Mengting returned from her boasting tour and eyed Feng Tianlin. “What exactly are you doing?”

“I’m planning to turn this place into a haunted house, but I’m not sure how to start,” he admitted.

Her eyes lit up immediately. “Why didn’t you say so earlier?”

“Huh?” Feng Tianlin was surprised. “You can help?”

The little girl smiled mysteriously, pulled out her phone, and said, “There are countless horror movies, paintings, music, and novels here. With these, how could you not know what to do?”

Feng Tianlin’s eyes sparkled. “Then hurry up and find some!”

Long Mengting began searching on her phone.

“Look at this horror novel—it’s hilarious! And this author is so pathetic, begging for five-star reviews.”

Feng Tianlin was baffled. “What are you talking about? Horror novels being funny? Just give it five stars and let’s check out horror movies instead.”

He didn’t know who could write a horror novel that was funny, but for now, the most helpful resources were horror films—especially Western ones. If they featured a manor, it would be perfect.

Long Mengting nodded and started searching for horror movies.

That night, they watched horror films in Long Mengting’s previous room.

Long Mengting couldn’t stop laughing, constantly mocking humanity.

Although Feng Tianlin felt nothing from the movies, he learned a lot and was ready to start renovating the castle.

However, the project was extensive and required human workers.

He used his mimicry skill to transform into the appearance of Wesford, then took Long Mengting down the mountain.

Walking through the wealthy district streets, he felt the sorrow of ordinary citizens in the Sunset Kingdom. But he also understood why theology was so revered there.

First, because gods truly existed and had saved their ancestors.

Second, because belief served as a narcotic, making people accept their fate as divinely ordained, preventing rebellion.

The most absurd part was that some people, despite living in misery, believed it was a divine test and that death would lead to paradise.

This pathological religion had rooted itself deep into the country's marrow; it seemed the nation was beyond salvation.

Fortunately, the leader of the eerie creatures here was inexplicably timid; otherwise, the entire country would have been decimated long ago.

Feng Tianlin had misunderstood the Holy Patriarch. The Patriarch had launched full-scale attacks on humans before, but the humans of the Sunset Kingdom could summon gods to fight back, severely wounding the Patriarch. Now, he was nursing his wounds somewhere and dared not act rashly.

Once at the foot of the mountain, Feng Tianlin immediately got into a super-stretched luxury car. In his past life, owning such a luxurious vehicle was his greatest dream, and now, having turned into a doll, it had come true.

Being an assassin wasn’t as glamorous as ordinary people assumed.

Though this career earned Feng Tianlin a fortune, it had to be kept under wraps. Flashy cars were out of the question.

Moreover, this line of work was like having one foot in prison and the other in the morgue, leaving no time to enjoy life.

Since he couldn’t recruit workers in the wealthy district, he drove all the way to the slums.

After much inquiry, he finally found where to hire labor.

Under a shabby house, a group of dark-skinned men squatted, smoking and seemingly waiting for something.

Fernando flicked away his cigarette butt and vented angrily, “The Aijiaoci family is garbage. They’re rich but still care about petty things.”

These were the so-called day laborers. The man speaking had been imprisoned for possessing the employer’s goods and had just escaped today.

“It’s because you took too much. If it were me, they wouldn’t have caught me!” another man said proudly.

As their heated discussion went on, Feng Tianlin’s super-stretched luxury car stopped in front of them.

Stepping out, he looked at the men, who clearly looked like freshly released convicts.

“You guys are day laborers, right? I want to hire you.”

They were stunned. Wasn’t this the heir of the famous Wesford family? And he wanted to hire them?

Suppressing their excitement, they looked at Feng Tianlin. “What about the pay...?”

“Hahaha, of course I won’t shortchange you,” Feng Tianlin smiled and casually grabbed a handful of gold coins, tossing them to the group.

To these men, the gold coins were like life-saving medicine to a terminally ill patient. They scrambled for them without care.

Each gold coin was worth fifty thousand units of the Sunset Kingdom’s common currency—more than they could earn in a year.

“Don’t rush. There’s more after the job,” Feng Tianlin said with a gentle smile.
