Chapter 120: The Church of the Heavenly God Cult

Redes, now completely transformed into an aberrant creature, had a savage look in his eyes. In an instant, he turned his gaze toward Feng Tianlin.
Feng Tianlin teased the “oracle” lying on the ground.
“This fellow wants to eat you.”
At his words, the “oracle” struggled in terror, his already pale face turning even paler.
Feng Tianlin smiled. A vast amount of icy power appeared in his hand, and he instantly moved above Redes before bringing his palm down.
Redes had only just transformed into an aberrant creature, yet he was already an F-rank. His talent was clearly impressive. But to Feng Tianlin, he had no value whatsoever, and there was naturally no reason to keep him alive.
Just as Feng Tianlin’s palm was about to touch Redes, his body froze solid at astonishing speed.
The instant he became an ice statue, Feng Tianlin’s palm struck the top of his head, and his entire body exploded.
When it was over, Feng Tianlin slowly walked over to the “oracle” under his horrified gaze.
“You fake oracle—do you know where the real oracle is?”
Feng Tianlin figured that as long as he found the oracle, he should be able to learn from him where the Sunset Kingdom’s official organization for dealing with aberrant creatures was located.
“Lord Oracle is inside the Church of the Heavenly God.”
The fake oracle’s breathing had grown ragged, and his life force was rapidly draining away. His mind was a complete mess; all he knew was that he had to stay alive.
His faith was beyond question, but he thought that this doll would surely be powerless before their great oracle.
Besides, from Feng Tianlin’s earlier words, he had learned that this doll seemed to be looking for an official organization of the Sunset Kingdom. Was the Church of the Heavenly God not made up entirely of official personnel?
After all, in the Sunset Kingdom, the church belonged to the royal family—in other words, it belonged to the state.
Even if one took the most pessimistic view, the church’s existence was common knowledge. There was no need for him to keep it secret.
“The Church of the Heavenly God?” Feng Tianlin stroked his chin thoughtfully.
“Is this Church of the Heavenly God the Sunset Kingdom’s official organization for dealing with aberrant creatures?”
“Yes. The royal family has decreed that whenever civilians encounter an attack by an aberrant creature, the church is to take full responsibility. Each church is represented by its local chapel.”
The “oracle” on the ground answered without the slightest hesitation.
“How do I know you’re telling the truth?” Feng Tianlin narrowed his eyes. Surely things could not be this simple.
“I… It isn’t some kind of secret. Everyone in the Sunset Kingdom knows about it.”
“Everyone in the Sunset Kingdom knows?” Feng Tianlin was dumbfounded.

After seeing the fake oracle nod, he searched the man’s body and found his phone.
Using the man’s fingerprint to unlock it, he opened the browser. The first things that appeared were several websites familiar to everyone, but Feng Tianlin ignored them and immediately used the search engine to look up:
“What should I do if I encounter an aberrant creature?”
A great deal of information appeared at once. Feng Tianlin soon realized that it really was this simple. There was even a navigation guide thoughtfully showing him how to get there.
He had wasted all that time for nothing.
After learning the truth, he angrily froze the counterfeit oracle into a block of ice. Then, following the navigation map, he headed for the Church of the Heavenly God’s chapel in the region.
Inside the Church of the Heavenly God, three oracles were looking at the checks in their hands and snickering.
They were all discussing Redes’s stupidity. Not far away from them lay the body of a young girl, her eyes wide open. It was the pure-hearted girl from earlier.
At that moment, someone entered and told them that it was time to begin the evening service.
This was a rule of the Church of the Heavenly God. Every chapel gathered a large number of believers at night—people seeking comfort from the divine—and the oracles were responsible for spreading the church’s teachings.
The three oracles nodded. After putting on their robes, they all stepped outside.
Of the three, Bylance held the highest position. He was a D-rank oracle, while the other two were both E-rank.
Their composition alone showed how little importance the Sunset Kingdom’s government placed on dealing with aberrant creatures.
A large crowd had already gathered outside. They knelt below with devout expressions, waiting for the three of them to begin speaking.
Bylance stood on the elevated platform, with the other two oracles at his sides. Once everything was ready, he began to speak.
“I know that what concerns you most is the problem of aberrant creatures. But there is no need to fear them at all. They merely wish to plunge you into terror.”
After saying this, he cleared his throat, clenched his right hand into a fist, and shouted:
“The best way to fight fear is to face it! So long as we confront fear directly, there is nothing to fear from aberrant creatures!”
The people below were inspired by his words and began shouting along with him.
“Face fear! Face fear!”
At that moment, a voice rang out throughout the chapel.
“Face fear? How are you going to face it?”
The voice spread with extraordinary force, as if it were echoing directly beside every person’s ear.
Everyone began looking around in confusion, including the three oracles.
Then, all around them, everything suddenly turned blood-red. An aura of terror spread through the chapel. Just as everyone stood there utterly bewildered—

“Ah!”
With the first scream, someone collapsed to the ground.
“What’s happening?”
Another person began shouting in terror, but the instant his voice emerged, he too fell to the floor without a single visible wound.
After the first and second came the third and fourth.
Some tried to flee, only to discover that they could not escape the chapel at all. It was as if the entire building had been sealed behind an invisible wall.
The three oracles had already lost their heads. They wanted to flee as well, but they could not get out.
Feng Tianlin appeared on the elevated platform and looked down at the surviving humans.
“Well? Show me how you face fear.”
The people stared at him in terror, unable to utter a single word.
Feng Tianlin nodded. If he wanted to destroy the Sunset Kingdom’s faith, he had to begin here. That was why he had no intention of killing these people. He wanted them to leave and spread the story themselves.
He then turned his attention to the three oracles. Before they could react, the two besides Bylance were transformed into blocks of ice.
Feng Tianlin kicked the two ice statues into the crowd, one after the other.
“These are the so-called representatives of your gods? They’re this weak, and you still think they’re fit to speak for the gods?”
The crowd stared blankly at the two ice statues. Feng Tianlin, meanwhile, dispelled his aberrant domain, and everything around them returned to normal.
“Get out of here. The great Nightmare Doll has no desire to kill a bunch of ants like you.”
Excellent. The aberrant creatures’ benevolent image had now been established.
That was simply how people were. Give them benefits, and they would not necessarily feel grateful. But if you beat them first and then eased up just a little, they would instead thank you profusely.
The crowd froze for only a moment before rushing out in a swarm. Bylance tried to flee with them.
Feng Tianlin stopped him with one hand.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“I really need to use the bathroom…” Bylance looked aggrieved. He did not even have the courage to fight Feng Tianlin.
Feng Tianlin smiled and gently patted his cheek.
“Hold it.”
Only after everyone had left the chapel did Feng Tianlin press Bylance to the floor.
“I need information about the Holy Lord Church. A great deal of information!”
