Chapter 124: The Holy Lord and the Demonic Shadow
"You are the boss? So, are you the Holy Master of the Holy Church?" Feng Tianlin narrowed his eyes, looking at the strange, eerie creature with a cat's head.
"I... I am the High Priest of Arrogance of the Holy Church; I am not the Holy Master." Iris forced himself to remain calm, staring at Feng Tianlin as he spoke.
At this moment, Gornett recalled what the Nightmare had said—that it was a doll who had sent them to find the witches, and that another doll had appeared just as they were locked in a fierce battle with those witches. He found it impossible to believe that these two dolls were not the same entity.
Why would this doll do such a thing? There was only one answer: to gather the witches and them in one place. As for why they were gathered, the witches had already been wiped out, and the answer was obvious: the doll intended to kill them.
Thinking of this, Gornett was terrified. In his fear, he grew hungry; he opened his mouth wide and devoured an innocent demon standing nearby.
"Not the Holy Master, then?" Feng Tianlin frowned. He had little interest in conversing with these eerie creatures whose status he deemed unequal to his own, so he said, "Take me to your Holy Master."
As soon as these words were spoken, the eerie creatures exchanged glances. They had gleaned several pieces of information from Feng Tianlin’s words. Firstly, this doll was definitely not an entity from the Sunset Kingdom, as no such powerful being could exist there without their knowledge. Moreover, the doll seemed completely ignorant of the affairs of the Holy Church, further confirming he was an outsider.
And his demand to see the Holy Master left room for various interpretations. When humans sought the Holy Master, it was understood as a crusade, but what business could this doll have? It was either submission or subjugation. Submission was unlikely; a being this powerful—likely even stronger than the Holy Master in his prime—would hardly submit to the current half-dead Holy Master. How could that be?
Subjugation, however, was plausible. After all, if an outsider wanted to establish their own influence in the Sunset Kingdom, the fastest way was to annex an existing power. But was this doll, who was already terrifyingly strong, really eyeing the scraps of power held by their Holy Church? They had noticed Feng Tianlin’s interest in the Lodo Magic Boxes earlier, but they hadn't thought much of it. Surely he wouldn't go to see their boss just for a few broken boxes?
But would they take him to the Holy Master? Absolutely. At a time like this, survival was paramount, and they could leave the negotiations to their boss.
With this in mind, Gornett hurriedly said, "Doll, we can take you to see the Holy Master."
Feng Tianlin turned his gaze toward the pig-headed creature. "Hmm, we have an old saying in Huaxia: 'Those who know the times are heroes.'"
"Huaxia!!!" The three high priests were instantly jolted to attention.
The legend of the Huaxia doll and the figure standing before them merged into one. They were now certain: this was the formidable doll from Huaxia!
"The Nightmare Doll!" Angel was the first to lose his composure, the words slipping out.
Hearing this, Feng Tianlin looked at him with a grin. "Oh? You’ve heard of me?" He felt a sense of pride; it seemed his reputation was quite significant.
"Of course I have heard of you! The strongest eerie creature in the world..."
Before Angel could finish, Feng Tianlin laughed out loud. "Hahaha, the strongest eerie creature in the world, indeed, indeed." It seemed the Holy Church was well-informed.
But Angel paused significantly before continuing. "The most powerful eerie creature in the world, the top subordinate of the Evil Queen of Poison, the super-entity who took down two cities single-handedly."
Upon hearing this, Feng Tianlin fell silent. Being called a subordinate of the Evil Queen of Poison? Was there some mistake?
Angel, emboldened, continued, "Your boss and our Holy Master have a great relationship. She even sent Lord Shadow to meet with our Holy Master recently. You arrived in the Sunset Kingdom earlier, so you might not know, but if you go now, you might still be able to see him."
Lord Shadow?
Feng Tianlin’s mouth twitched violently. Without a doubt, this "Lord Shadow" had to be one of the Evil Queen of Poison's subordinates, and as for the Queen herself... he never let anyone live who had tried to kill him and held no further utility.
He nodded. "That works out well. I’ll go pay a visit to this old friend."
Seemingly sensing that the threat from Feng Tianlin had vanished, the three high priests now acted like his best friends. Gornett boasted, "I see you’re quite interested in the Lodo Magic Boxes, brother. We happen to have some stock between the three of us. If you don't mind, just take them."
The other two priests winced, but they couldn't refuse and chimed in as well. "Yes, yes! Our subordinates just handed over a batch recently. We’ve been at war with the witches and haven't had time to enjoy them yet."
Feng Tianlin was overjoyed. With these Lodo Magic Boxes, Long Mengting and the others could likely upgrade to A-rank.
As they marched out of the forest, it was already morning. Feng Tianlin squinted at the sky. A third sun was slowly rising. "What on earth is happening? Could there really be nine suns appearing in the sky?"
He decided to take things one step at a time. If these suns truly could give birth to eerie creatures as the legends suggested, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing for him.
He looked at the three high priests. "How long until we reach the Holy Master?"
Angel hesitated for a moment before answering, "We have flying demons, so it should take less than two days."
"Two days?" Feng Tianlin frowned. "Too slow."
The three high priests were at a loss; two days was the fastest they could travel to the Holy Master's hiding spot. Before they could think of a solution, a massive train appeared in the sky and pulled up slowly in front of Feng Tianlin.
Ignoring them, Feng Tianlin said to himself, "Tell me the exact location, and I can get us there in under two seconds."
All the eerie creatures were stunned by the "two seconds" remark. Two seconds? Spatial teleportation?
Feng Tianlin let only the three high priests board his train, and they entered the driver's cabin together. Feng Tianlin looked at them and said coldly, "Give me the location."
Truth be told, if the destination hadn't been so far, he wouldn't have bothered with the Ghost Train; using his own Wings of Fire to fly was far more enjoyable. That was usually why he avoided using the train.
The three of them provided the coordinates reliably. After setting them, Feng Tianlin teleported them directly.
They arrived at a very remote small town—so remote it lacked even a single high-rise building. It felt like stepping back several decades. In the town, there was an inconspicuous grocery store located in what passed for a bustling street. Though it looked dilapidated, it was standard for the area.
Today, the store was tightly shut, showing no signs of welcoming guests. Inside, a green lizard-man with a full beard and a shabby suit was holding a purple Lodo Magic Box. Behind him stood a table littered with various human body parts and several more Lodo Magic Boxes. Sitting there was an eerie entity whose features were obscured, seemingly composed of darkness, while a man in red robes stood behind him.
The green lizard-man sat down, holding the box, and looked at the dark shadow opposite him with great respect.
"Lord Shadow, this is the terror-emotion of the Sunset Kingdom's witches. It is quite delicious. Since you are leaving, please, have a taste."
The Shadow scoffed. "Hmph. In Huaxia, I have absorbed more terror-emotion from Taoists than I can count. Do you really think a witch's terror-emotion is enough to bribe me?"
