Now, out of the original eight combatants, three had been killed by Feng Tianlin, leaving just five, all gathered here.

A heavy silence fell over the room, lingering for a long while before Director Tian finally put on his authoritative air. “What are all of you doing, barging in here like this? Do you want that doll to take you all out in one fell swoop?”

Hearing this, Xiao Buyu chimed in, fanning the flames with a mocking tone. “The duty of a combatant is to fight! Not to hide away here like cowards!”

His words rang with righteous indignation, with no regard for the fact that he himself was also a member of the combat team.

“But…” One of the four remaining combatants was incensed by his words, wanting to retort, but after stammering for a long while, he couldn’t manage a single sentence.

“But what? Am I wrong? Get out there and fight right now!” Xiao Buyu pressed, his tone sharp and forceful.

Sending them out to fight that doll was tantamount to sending them to their deaths. The creature that had wiped out three spirit tamers in an instant—should they be the ones to face it? None of them could claim to be stronger than the three who’d just been killed.

One combatant finally snapped, brandishing his own anomalous object—a fork—and threatened, “At a time like this, you think I’m afraid of you?”

But before he’d even finished speaking, he felt a sudden chill at his neck. Looking down, he saw a deep gash had been cut across his throat. Blood spurted from his artery, pouring out in a torrent until it pooled on the floor beneath him. He collapsed into his own spreading blood.

“Go and fight now! Anyone who talks back will end up just like him!” Xiao Buyu, now holding a short sword, threatened the last three spirit tamers.

Everyone was stunned, shocked by the ruthless decisiveness Xiao Buyu had just displayed—especially the three remaining combatants. Their understanding of Xiao Buyu was shattered. In the past, he’d always been the kindly uncle, smiling at everyone, only scolding after mistakes were made.

But today, just to force them out to die, he’d killed one of their own—a colleague they’d worked with for years, a living, breathing person!

And now, that same person had been murdered by their most trusted leader. Who could bear such a blow?

Tears welled in their eyes as they looked at Xiao Buyu, unable to tell if what they felt was fear, disappointment, or perhaps both.

“Aren’t you leaving yet?” Xiao Buyu barked again, and the three combatants, their hope extinguished, opened the door. Before stepping out, they shot him one final look, and in that look was nothing but anger.

Just as they were about to leave, a crisp clapping broke the tense silence. The unexpected sound left everyone frozen, unable to fathom who would applaud at a time like this.

Following the sound, they saw a doll had somehow appeared atop the office desk, both hands clapping incessantly. Though its hands were made of plastic, the sound was unmistakably that of human applause.

Everyone recoiled in horror, instinctively huddling together to face the doll.

Feng Tianlin looked on, nearly amused by their pitiful state. They were like a flock of lambs huddling together, terrified of a wolf. Who would have thought that humanity’s grand mission to combat anomalous beings would rest in the hands of such people?

Without further hesitation, Feng Tianlin flashed into their midst with a strange, uncanny movement, and casually split open someone’s skull.

Screams erupted. The staff scattered in a frenzy, but it was futile.

Feng Tianlin, like a demon incarnate, slaughtered them one after another, savoring the terror and horror that the spirit tamers provided.

“Whoever can hold off that doll so I can escape, I’ll give them half a million!” Director Tian, petrified, frantically pulled wads of red bills from his purse, offering them to the crowd.

But at a time like this, did money still hold any allure? Of course not—no one paid him any mind.

Feng Tianlin glanced at Director Tian, finding it almost laughable that even now he thought he could buy his life with money.

Seeing Feng Tianlin’s gaze, Director Tian realized he was next. He shouted, “Hurry! Stop him!”

Whether it was his order or the spirit tamers finally resigning themselves, the three remaining spirit tamers all turned to face Feng Tianlin, looks of stoic resolve on their faces. They summoned their anomalous beings and launched an attack.

Feng Tianlin regarded these spirit tamers as precious stepping stones for his own power—why would he kill them so simply?

A glimmer of light flashed in his left eye, and instantly, the world changed.

The office was transformed into a hellish slaughterhouse, scenes of carnage unfolding ceaselessly. Each person saw their own classmates skinned alive, their eyes gouged out, tendons ripped, bones broken…

All were subjected to overwhelming fear, despair, and agony.

In the real world, Feng Tianlin walked step by step toward Director Tian, his expression twisted into a terrifying mask. As he approached, he spoke: “You’re their leader?”

This anomalous being could talk! Li Juetian had not lied—its intelligence exceeded all their expectations.

Xiao Buyu mustered his courage, standing between the creature and Director Tian, wielding his toothbrush-anomaly defensively. He was about to say something stirring and grand, thinking that if this being was intelligent, perhaps there was room to negotiate.

But before he could utter a word, Feng Tianlin casually slit his throat.

Despairing, Xiao Buyu clutched his neck, blood seeping through his fingers, staining everything around him until, finally, he collapsed from blood loss.

Director Tian was now in utter shock. He had never heard of an anomalous being so strong and intelligent.

“You… what do you want? As long as I can provide it, I’ll give you anything!” Director Tian’s thoughts were simple. Since the being hadn’t killed him immediately, he must still be useful.

Feng Tianlin stared at him intently for a long while, then finally smiled and spoke slowly: “I’m very interested in this world. I hope you’ll tell me everything about anomalous beings and spirit tamers.”

Feng Tianlin’s thoughts were just as simple. Some secrets might be unknown to ordinary spirit tamers, but someone like Director Tian, with his status and connections, might know much more.

Director Tian was shocked—he hadn’t expected this being’s intelligence to be so formidable, even to the point of seeking intelligence.

Curiosity about intelligence meant many things—high intelligence, possible far-reaching plans…

But none of that mattered to Director Tian now. All he wanted was to survive. If he could just stay alive and report this doll incident to Spirit City, then with the city’s peerless spirit tamers, no matter how powerful this doll was, it would be meaningless.

With this in mind, he wasted no time in opening a safe, pulling out stack after stack of documents.

“These contain everything that happened after the anomalies began. Whatever you want to know is in here! If you let me live, I can translate them for you!”

As a human, Director Tian naturally assumed that the anomalous being could, at most, speak and recognize some words. It was impossible for it to read fluently—after all, it hadn’t existed long enough, and even if it had, why would it spend time learning human languages?
