"Su Chen, answer me—did you encounter a Nightmare Doll in Tianjing City or not?" The voice was icy cold.

On the other end of the line, Su Chen seemed to sense something was off. "What doll are you talking about? Right now, Tianjing City is nearly overrun by bizarre creatures. Shouldn't we be focusing on that? What about reinforcements?"

"I asked you! Is the Nightmare Doll in Tianjing City or not!" Fu Chang began shouting into the phone, unable to tolerate being lied to.

"No," Su Chen resigned himself. After all, he was a martial artist. What could this director really do to him?

"You… you… fine! Get back here immediately!" Fu Chang's voice was furious.

"Go back? Do you even know what the situation is in Tianjing City? If I go back now, that's the end for me!" Su Chen shouted back just as loudly, willing to risk it all.

As soon as he finished, the call was cut off, leaving Fu Chang standing there with the phone in his hand, stunned.

"Director, I think Su Chen made the right call. The crisis in Tianjing City is more important than the doll. Besides, what if this is all part of his plan?" Ji Ruyan offered from the side, trying to ease the tension.

But Fu Chang exploded at her words, turning on Ji Ruyan with a roar: "Do you have any idea how important that doll is to me? Huh?!"

Ji Ruyan was stunned into silence, unable to believe that the usually composed director could lose control like this.

Everyone else in the room fell silent as well, heads bowed, afraid to meet Fu Chang's gaze.

At that moment, a casual voice rang out from the doorway: "So, what's more important—the doll, or the monstrous entity behind you?"

Everyone turned to look. At the entrance stood a youth of seventeen or eighteen, flanked by several individuals dressed as Spirit Tamers, their imposing presence hinting at considerable power.

Fu Chang narrowed his eyes at the young man. "Fan Tianxing, what do you mean by that? Just out of the psychiatric hospital, and already looking for trouble?" His tone was tinged with annoyance, but his eyes betrayed unease.

He knew he was finished; word of his deeds had surely reached higher authorities, but he still tried to keep up appearances.

"Ha! Who do you think you're fooling?" Fan Tianxing chuckled, waving his hand. "Go."

No sooner had he spoken than the Spirit Tamers behind him released a tremendous aura—at least Class A—and rushed Fu Chang, pinning him to the ground.

"Fan Tianxing! Are you out of your mind? Just because you're from the Fan family doesn't mean you can do whatever you want!"

Fu Chang was terrified. Colluding with monstrous entities—no one had ever dared such a thing before, but even without precedent, he knew he was doomed no matter how many lives he had.

"Hmph." Fan Tianxing sneered and gestured with a wave. "Search him!"

Immediately, one of the Spirit Tamers fished a small bottle from Fu Chang's pocket. Inside was a shadowy black figure.

"Fu Chang, what's this? An ornament?" Fan Tianxing stepped closer, looking down at him with mocking eyes.

"I… I…" Fu Chang was speechless, his head hanging low. "I demand to call Director Li!"

Director Li was his superior, his last hope for survival.

"Director Li? Which Director Li?" Fan Tianxing picked at his ear, utterly unimpressed. "Kill him."

Before anyone else in the conference room could react, one of the Spirit Tamers commanded his own monster to strike Fu Chang through the heart, drenching the room in blood.

Silence fell—absolute silence. No one dared make a sound. They stared in disbelief, shocked not only by the sudden appearance of this young man, but also by his casual ruthlessness.

After killing Fu Chang, Fan Tianxing turned his gaze to the bottle containing the black figure. "Well, let's see—what species are you?"

The shadowy figure inside the bottle remained silent.

"Haha, still playing mute? How does it feel, knowing that every single one of your kind across all of China has been caught at the same time?" Fan Tianxing's laughter was unrestrained, as though he were watching some farcical play.

"Hmph! So what? You lowly humans—did you forget how we monsters ruled you in ancient times? We will rule again!" The black figure finally spoke, voice tinged with madness.

"Oh? Then why aren't you ruling us now?" Fan Tianxing's smile persisted as he asked.

"If not for you humans… What are you so smug about? The resurrection of the monsters has only just begun! How long do you think your triumph will last? There were five great civilizations, and in just a few short years, only three remain. Doesn't that say it all?"

"Five great civilizations? You think those others are 'great'? Only China is worthy of that title—the rest are garbage. Don't lump us in with the likes of them." Fan Tianxing's smile faded, eyes narrowing in anger.

"Hahaha! Our glorious monsters will one day conquer China. Tianjing City is just the beginning! That day isn't far off. When it comes, I'll personally make sure you experience endless terror!" The black figure sounded utterly deranged, cackling maniacally.

Fan Tianxing merely shook his head. "Send it to the Monstrous Entity Research Institute." He glanced at the black figure, almost pityingly. "As for your so-called 'Evil King and Poison Queen' plan, we've known about it for a long time. Did you really think our intelligence agency is useless?"

At these words, the black figure finally fell silent as he was taken away. He hadn't expected China to know even about the Evil King and Poison Queen.

Fu Chang's corpse was taken away as well.

Once everything had been dealt with, Fan Tianxing clapped his hands. "Alright, let me introduce myself. My name is Fan Tianxing. Due to Director Fu Chang's betrayal, I am now assuming his position as head of the Ling City Monstrous Entity Investigation Bureau. Here are my official appointment papers."

He pulled a document from inside his coat. No one doubted its authenticity—anyone who could bring five Class A Spirit Tamers as subordinates clearly outranked a local bureau chief and had no need to forge credentials.

Seeing no reaction from the others, Fan Tianxing continued, "I've come to Ling City for three reasons: to execute traitors, to reclaim Tianjing City, and to capture the Nightmare Doll. The first goal is complete. Next, we will hunt down and exterminate every last monstrous entity in Tianjing City!"

Still, no one responded. They simply stared at him.

"So now, my first order as acting director: summon every group leader and above in the bureau. I want a meeting!"

Ren Zhonghao, a typical sycophant, immediately put on a fawning smile. "I'll arrange it, I'll arrange it right away, haha."

Ten minutes later, the conference room was filled with over thirty people—the core leadership of the Ling City Monstrous Entity Investigation Bureau.

"Everyone's here," Ren Zhonghao reported obsequiously to Fan Tianxing.

Fan Tianxing busied himself combing his hair in a mirror, responding with only a nonchalant "Mm," and doing nothing more.

Restlessness began to stir among the assembled officials. They knew only that a new director was taking over, but hadn't expected him to be so young—and so brash.
