Chapter Seventy-Eight: Bi Fang

Although he didn't know what an Innate Dao Body was, as soon as he heard that the other party seemed to really know Wang Hui, he immediately pressed for more information.
“Tell me where he is, and I’ll make your end swift.”
To his surprise, the Daoist just laughed at his words. “Ha ha ha, what’s this? You’ve got a grudge against him?”
After laughing, he shook his head. “He’s now under the protection of the top experts of the Dao Alliance. You can’t kill him.”
Feng Tianlin hid his inner delight and simply left. He hadn’t expected that Wang Hui, that little rascal, was doing so well for himself. He wondered if Ruan Miao was keeping up. However, he didn’t bother to inquire about Ruan Miao, since she was connected to Long Mengting and reportedly in training, without access to her phone. All in all, things seemed to be going pretty well.
“Haha, soon this ‘foreign doll’ will unite all of China.”
Just then, the demon puppet came in. “Boss Doll, there’s a human insisting on seeing you.”
Feng Tianlin frowned. “Tell him to get lost, or die.”
The demon puppet waved his hand. “This human isn’t ordinary. Look at this.” He produced a jade pendant.
Feng Tianlin took the jade pendant, sensing an ancient aura emanating from it, somewhat similar to that of Qi Xuan and her companions.
“Take me to meet him.” Without hesitation, he decided to see this human.
Soon, he was led to a room where a man was sitting—the very person, Xiao Liu, who had slipped away when the bat let him go by mistake.
When Feng Tianlin entered, Xiao Liu spoke immediately. “Are you the master of this city?”
Feng Tianlin nodded. “And who are you?”
“I am an ancient demon newly awakened. People call me Bifang. My name is Cheng Lian.” The man spoke calmly.
Good heavens, he revealed himself right away. Feng Tianlin couldn’t help but admire his directness.
“Bifang? Cheng Lian? Never heard of you.” Feng Tianlin shook his head and handed him the jade pendant. “How did you become human?”
“In our era, for demons to awaken, they needed great power and a resurrection altar. But I used another method—Soul Anchoring.
It means placing one’s soul in a special vessel capable of containing it, and waiting for a chance to revive. The human who wore this pendant became my vessel, and thus I became human.”
“Why didn’t you build a resurrection altar? Too weak?”
“No, because I knew that in future ages, humans would definitely try to stop our awakening. So I chose this method.” Cheng Lian spoke blandly.
With things laid out like this, Feng Tianlin believed him halfway, though he remained somewhat uncertain.
“So why are you looking for me?”

“I thought the master of such a city would be someone from our era, perhaps someone I knew. Also, to reshape my flesh, I need the help of a powerful companion.”
That reason seemed plausible. Feng Tianlin nodded. “So what’s in it for me?”
“Ancient demons, when revived, awaken at the altar. I know that soon an altar will open, and an ancient demon will awaken there. I need to borrow his strength to reshape my body.
Once I have my body back, I can help you.”
“Help me with what?” Feng Tianlin looked utterly unimpressed.
“I can help you rule all of the Nine Provinces.” Cheng Lian was supremely confident.
“And after you reshape your flesh, what level will you be at?”
“At least halfway to Opening Origin!” Cheng Lian’s confidence soared.
In his eyes, the full resurgence of the strange phenomena was still years away. Right now, demons could hardly muster any power. Halfway to Opening Origin would likely be top-tier strength, and he could already picture this little doll groveling before him.
Feng Tianlin disdainfully picked his nose. “Halfway to Opening Origin? What use is that?”
Cheng Lian was stunned. The groveling he had imagined did not materialize. Had something gone wrong? Had his awakening come too late?
He swallowed. “What’s your strength?”
Feng Tianlin saw no reason to lie. “Fifth tier. Why?”
“Fifth tier? And you think halfway to Opening Origin is useless?” Cheng Lian was shocked.
But he was reassured—the resurgence hadn’t fully begun yet. Otherwise, even a C-level demon could be city lord.
Since the resurgence hadn’t started in earnest, he figured this city lord couldn’t be very clever, so he said directly to Feng Tianlin, “You don’t understand. Let me see your master.”
Feng Tianlin curled his lip. “Sure.” With that, he turned and left, straightforward as could be.
Cheng Lian was taken aback by how readily the other agreed.
But as he was about to meet the leader, presumably the demon overlord of the Nine Provinces today, his mind started to race.
Who could this demon be? Someone from his own era, or a rising star of this one?
Most likely, it would be an ancient demon. In that era, a newly awakened demon had at least half a step into Opening Origin, the absolute pinnacle.
But who would it be?
He immediately thought of the two most probable candidates: either the Evil King or the Queen of Poison. It couldn’t possibly be the Demon Emperor—neither humans nor ancient demons would allow him to awaken successfully.
If it was the Evil King or the Queen of Poison, they would at least awaken at Opening Origin level. Most importantly, he happened to know them. Then this so-called city lord would be nothing but a younger brother in his presence. Thinking this, he sneered and muttered,

“Hmph, what nonsense.”
Feng Tianlin naturally knew who that comment was aimed at, but he said nothing, only smiled.
Soon, they arrived at a factory of strange emotions, and Feng Tianlin brought him straight to Qi Xuan.
Upon seeing Qi Xuan, Cheng Lian was instantly shocked. “Qi Xuan? Weren’t you killed by the Ancient Master Xuan Gu? How are you here?”
Qi Xuan looked at the human, bewildered. “You know me?”
“I am Cheng Lian!” Cheng Lian pointed at himself, nearly shouting.
“Cheng Lian?” Qi Xuan frowned. “The one-legged big bird?”
“Yes, I never expected the first familiar face I’d see after awakening would be you.” Cheng Lian was excited now that she recalled him. “How did you survive? Didn’t Ancient Master Xuan Gu kill you?”
Qi Xuan smiled. “No, when I was fleeing, a divine artifact called ‘train’ suddenly appeared. I boarded it and escaped.”
Though he didn’t know what a train was, he was relieved she survived. “Then why didn’t you return?”
They were both subordinates of the Demon Emperor; naturally, he meant returning to the Demon Emperor’s side.
Qi Xuan was momentarily at a loss. Her situation with Feng Tianlin was a bit complicated, and she didn’t know how to explain. Cheng Lian, however, suddenly declared with a look of realization,
“I get it! You must have noticed something wrong with the Monkey King, so you didn’t go back, right?”
That left Qi Xuan dumbfounded. She stared at Cheng Lian, incredulous. “No, what happened after I left?”
Calling the Demon Emperor, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, ‘the Monkey King’ was outright disrespectful. She knew Cheng Lian wouldn’t insult him without reason, so she pressed him.
“You don’t know?” Cheng Lian asked, suspicious.
“I... I’ve been living in seclusion since then, I know nothing,” Qi Xuan said, bluffing to the silly bird.
The excuse was barely plausible, and Cheng Lian believed her, thinking she had no reason to lie.
His expression turned ferocious, clearly enraged, his every word bitten off as if through clenched teeth, revealing the depth of his anger.
“The Great Sage Equal to Heaven is a traitor to all demons!”
