Chapter 89: Fan Tianxing’s Deduction
Under the oppressive aura of an apex powerhouse, the gecko quickly reached its limit.
“We have no idea what’s going on! Suddenly a group of terrifyingly strong, bizarre creatures appeared in the city—it all started with them.”
“Tell me about these strange creatures that suddenly appeared in the city,” Fan Tianxing demanded, his tone brimming with impatience.
“I really don’t know them…”
The moment the gecko uttered these words, a crushing pressure bore down on its body. It realized that if it didn’t offer something useful, it was going to be crushed to pieces.
“It’s the Nightmare Doll! The Nightmare Doll!” the gecko cried out in panic.
“The Nightmare Doll?” Fan Tianxing immediately recalled related memories and was somewhat surprised.
“Yes, he joined forces with our Evil King and Venom Queen. I don’t know why they came to Source City this time, but just now he and his followers all left.”
“They left? How? Which way did they go?”
“I don’t know! I was busy searching for people, and when I realized, he and his followers had all vanished.”
As soon as the gecko finished speaking, a tiny droplet of green liquid shot toward Fan Tianxing. But just as it was about to reach him, the martial artist squeezed, and the gecko was instantaneously crushed. The immense force created a shockwave, flinging the droplet aside. When it hit the ground, it corroded a hole in the earth.
Fan Tianxing paid no mind to this. Stroking his chin, he pondered the situation.
By rights, Well City belonged to the Doll, but now it had been seized by the owner of a bizarre domain. The Doll had previously been active in Spirit City; after the domain owner took over Spirit City, the Doll came here, bringing a group of formidable followers.
After sorting through these events, Fan Tianxing quickly drew a conclusion.
“I see now. The Doll had his Well City taken by the domain owner, then was chased out of Spirit City as well, and the poor thing could only wander with his loyal followers. When they drifted to Source City, they staged this operation.
“And it seems this operation was even sponsored by the Evil King and Venom Queen. Otherwise, how could a single Doll pull off something this grand?”
This wave of analysis completely missed the mark, yet Fan Tianxing felt quite pleased with himself.
“I really am a genius. Who would have thought the relationships among these bizarre creatures could be so complex?”
The terrified man slowly lifted his head at this moment, staring in shock at the beaming Fan Tianxing. He couldn’t fathom how anyone could smile in such a scene of carnage.
“What are you laughing at?” Overwhelmed by confusion, he couldn’t help but ask.
“Why can’t I laugh? Do you have a problem with it?” Fan Tianxing looked at him with disdain, his tone arrogant.
Ren Zhonghao, upon hearing Fan Tianxing’s words, sensed trouble and hurried to intervene. But it was already too late.
“Do I have a problem?” the man retorted, standing up abruptly. “Do you even realize what just happened in this city? Huh? And you’re here laughing! What’s so funny?”
Enraged, the man strode forward to grab Fan Tianxing. But at that very instant, Fan Tianxing’s right hand clenched into a fist and slammed downward.
With that punch, the man was smashed to the ground, instantly silenced.
He had survived the terrifying rampage of Feng Tianlin, only to be killed by Fan Tianxing, who fancied himself the savior of humanity.
Fan Tianxing glanced coldly at the mangled corpse, spat, and muttered, “What a piece of trash.”
He turned to the rest, “Let’s go. We’ll see if there are any other clues.”
After Fan Tianxing and his group departed, Ren Zhonghao, who had been standing in a daze, finally snapped out of it and hurried after them. As he left, he glanced at the corpse and swallowed hard.
They returned to the place where the martial artist at the Kaiyuan Realm had died. Fan Tianxing crouched down to examine the body.
“The wounds are of varying sizes, so it likely wasn’t caused by the same bizarre creature. Both the arm and blade show traces of being frozen. If I remember correctly, that Doll has something to do with ice.”
He looked over at the corpses of the others in the distance. “The others all died far from him.”
After a moment’s thought, he reconstructed the scene in his mind.
Most likely, the Kaiyuan Realm martial artist was surrounded and attacked by more than a dozen bizarre creatures. Unfamiliar with their abilities, he swung his blade at the Doll, only to be frozen for a split second. In that moment, the other bizarre creatures pounced, resulting in his unfortunate death.
With his analysis complete, he picked up the phone.
“Hello? All your reinforcements in Source City are dead. The investigators from the Source City Bureau of Bizarre Creature Investigation are probably all gone too. The leading bizarre creature should be grade A, and there are at least a hundred high-level bizarre creatures.
“Hurry up and deal with this mess. There probably aren’t any survivors left in the whole city.”
He didn’t believe Feng Tianlin could have become S-class or reached the Kaiyuan Realm in such a short time—it was simply impossible. Nor did he believe Feng Tianlin’s team had a Kaiyuan Realm member. After all, why would bizarre creatures submit to one weaker than themselves?
Unless it was the owner of a bizarre domain.
But how could the owner of a bizarre domain possibly be that Doll?
In the end, he’d underestimated Feng Tianlin, leading him into a mental blind spot.
After settling everything, he stretched lazily and said, “Alright, let’s go. No point waiting for that domain owner to lose patience.”
As he spoke, his gaze sharpened, and flames of fury flickered within. He could not wait to exact his revenge.
Last time, because of that domain owner, he’d been humiliated and forced into a desperate retreat. This was a score he had to settle!
Indeed, his anger stemmed only from his wounded pride—he felt no guilt at all for the hundred lives lost under his command.
After they departed, the authorities in Huaxia were furious. They had never expected a bizarre creature to be so brazen—this was a direct affront to their authority.
The director of the Capital’s Bureau of Bizarre Creature Investigation tore the report before him to shreds in a rage, slamming the desk. “From this moment on, launch a sweep against the Nightmare Doll!”
No one dared argue; preparations began immediately.
Soon, countless spirit tamers and martial artists descended upon River Province, launching a relentless purge of bizarre creatures and searching for the Doll’s whereabouts.
Unaware of any of this, Feng Tianlin left Source City and kept an eye on his terror points.
He now possessed over five million points, but the level cap still hadn’t broken, so he decided to wait before spending them.
He didn’t plan to learn any new skills for himself—quality over quantity, after all. Too many skills would only make it awkward to channel energy properly when casting them.
However, he could grant a skill to Chimei.
Sifting through the skill list, he found few suitable for spirits, but eventually settled on a classic one. In simple terms, it was a wailing banshee’s howl, but with a more elegant name—Ghost Wail.
“Ghost Wail: The user emits a wailing cry akin to that of a vengeful spirit, affecting any creature. (The effect depends on the user’s level.)”
