Chapter 129: The Artillery Roars Again
Surging divine power erupted!
She had never personally taken action before, merely using her divine domain and followers to crush these humans. But now, these humans had infuriated her. These ants were finally worthy of her attention.
Azure divine power swept forth from her trident, instantly causing the ocean below to churn violently as massive waves surged outward.
"Divine power," she murmured, looking at the trident in her hand before turning her gaze toward the ant-like humans. "Do you truly understand the power of a god? You should be honored to experience my might firsthand."
"Boom!"
She hurled the trident. It streaked through the air like a blue bolt of light, charging toward the Great Steel Wall! The power and speed were terrifying, causing the very space around it to ripple! Behind the trident trailed a savage water dragon, followed by a hundred-meter-tall wave, surging from the ocean like a colossal azure palm.
Meanwhile, the sea beast followers who had endured the artillery bombardment now realized the strength of the humans and dared not underestimate them again. Deep within the ocean, five sea beast followers—notably larger than the others—gazed with sinister eyes through the layers of water at the humans above.
They were the God-Chosen of their five races, the conduits linking each faithful tribe to the deity. Chosen by the god, granted power, and tasked with carrying out the divine will, they watched their kin being decimated by the explosions with cold, murderous intent.
"These humans actually possess such powerful area-of-effect weaponry," the Giant Whale tribe’s God-Chosen roared. "All units, dive! Scatter and advance in small squads! Avoid concentrated fire!"
"Giant Whale tribe, hold the front!"
The Swordfish tribe’s God-Chosen shouted, "Swordfish tribe, move to the flanks and bypass this wall! I refuse to believe these humans can build this wall indefinitely!"
"Octopus tribe, follow closely behind the Giant Whale tribe. Use 'Rotating Tentacles' to swat away incoming shells!"
"Murloc archers, dive and close the distance!"
"Shark tribe, dive in squads with the others and leap out only when near the wall!"
Under the command of these five God-Chosen, the sea beast followers, who had previously charged recklessly across the surface, instantly dove underwater, scattering into squads to rush the Great Steel Wall.
Suddenly, crisis loomed above and below the wall. A divine trident accompanied by crashing waves was hurtling toward them, while sea beast followers were lurking beneath the surface, advancing in scattered formations.
"I leave the command to you. Do not let a single follower reach the top!" Lin Fan looked up at the oncoming trident and said solemnly, "The god is mine."
"Understood!" Old Jin, who was turning the controls and unleashing shell after shell, nodded with gritted teeth, knowing the gravity of the situation.
"Are you sure you can handle this?" Lin Fan asked with a hint of concern.
"You brat, are you looking down on me?" Old Jin laughed, his eyes devoid of fear. "When I first held a gun, this god-forsaken deity was still nursing!"
Lin Fan nodded, turned, and shouted, "God-Slayer Army, First Squad, engage!"
"Engage!" Dao Wanqian and the others stepped out behind Lin Fan.
Lin Fan watched the trident crashing down and drew his blade, charging forward.
"Mission objective: Slay the god!"
The blade intent he had been accumulating for so long erupted. The God-Slayer Army was born for this purpose! Lin Fan’s figure transformed, resembling a green dragon or a blade of light cutting across the sea as he slashed toward the incoming trident.
"Slay the god!"
Five other figures charged with him. Thanks to the Tianshan Snow Lotus from the final week, their damaged foundations had been restored—perfectly. In this moment, the entire first squad of the God-Slayer Army were demigods!
Six human demigods charged forth together, leaving the land of Great Xia to confront the god standing proudly upon the sea.
Watching Lin Fan depart, Old Jin grinned. "It’s been a long time since I commanded a battle."
He looked up at the hundred-meter-high waves and the majestic water dragon trailing the trident. Fearless, he shouted, "Everyone, avoid the waves! All personnel, enter the shelters within ten seconds!"
With that, Old Jin performed a standard tactical maneuver, rolling off the heavy artillery platform and diving into a nearby trench with four other soldiers. The trench was meticulously designed, capable of housing five people, with the side facing the ocean built as a semi-circular sphere. It was constructed of thirty centimeters of concrete reinforced with five centimeters of steel—thick and impenetrable. It had been specifically prepared to withstand the might of the Ocean God’s waves.
"Boom!"
The continuous, hundred-meter-high waves roared like the ocean itself, crashing down upon them. The four-thousand-mile Great Steel Wall stood firm against the deluge!
The waves struck the wall as if to crush everything in their path, but in the end, it was the waves that shattered into mist. No matter how the water dragon churned or how massive the waves were, the Great Steel Wall of Great Xia remained unmoved! This was the blood and sweat of the people of Great Xia; this was their Great Steel Wall!
"Boom!"
Amid the thunderous collision, seawater surged over the top of the wall. The terrifying force was enough to sweep men away, yet not a single one of the fifty million soldiers was washed off! They huddled in the shelters, watching the water pour over the steel plates above, unable to harm them in the slightest.
This was why Lin Fan had insisted on building the Great Steel Wall! The power of the ocean was indeed terrifying, but the power of humanity was not to be underestimated!
Even under the impact of the massive waves, the heavy artillery stood proud. The guns, cannons, and ammunition crates were bolted deep into the bedrock of the Great Steel Wall!
This time, humanity was prepared! Great Xia was prepared!
"Hahaha, is that all? Is this what divine power is?" Old Jin laughed as he rushed out of the shelter and back to his heavy artillery station. He broadcasted over the comms, "Come on, let me see what these followers of the gods are made of!"
The artillery roared once more!
On the wall, the sixty-something-year-old man, who had spent his entire life in the military, no longer showed any signs of aging. His eyes burned with the intensity of battle, as if he had returned to his glorious youth.
"Brats!" Old Jin shouted. "I am in command now! Don't worry about who wins between the god and Lin Fan; just fight the battle in front of you!"
"Let me see how much grit you descendants of Great Xia have!"
A soldier shouted, "Report! The sea beasts have submerged! They are advancing underwater; we cannot see them!"
Old Jin’s command remained sharp. "Order Chen Yan and the research team to activate the sonar systems installed beneath the wall immediately! Provide targeting coordinates within five seconds. Once the artillery units receive the coordinates, do not aim at the exact location; shift the aim three hundred meters forward and bombard their projected path!"
"Also, air units, stop using precision-guided missiles! Seawater interferes with thermal signals. Switch to saturation bombing! Cover the entire area!"
Old Jin knew that transmitting coordinates took time. If sonar detected a group of sea beasts, it would take at least seven seconds for the research team to relay the data to the firing units and for those units to lock on and fire. Based on his observations, these sea beasts, twenty kilometers away, would advance about three hundred meters in seven seconds.
"Sonar activated!"
"Targeting units received! Locking on!"
"Heavy Artillery Squad One has locked on! Adjusting aim three hundred meters forward!"
"Heavy Artillery Squad Two has locked on! Adjusting aim three hundred meters forward!"
"Make your shots count!" Old Jin roared. "Don't be fooled by the distance; these bastards are fast."
"We don't have much time. Within five minutes, they will be within a thousand meters!"
A soldier operating a heavy cannon didn't show the slightest fear, instead laughing, "Five minutes is enough! We can get ten more long-range salvos off!"
During the few seconds while the artillery and missile units locked on, Old Jin continued to command the other forces. "Light and heavy machine gun units, grenadiers, mortar teams, and light weapons units—check your ammo one last time! Stay sharp!"
"When they reach the thousand-meter mark, I want you to construct a wall of fire! A wall of fire they cannot break through!" Old Jin bellowed.
"Yes, sir!"
"Targeting complete! Ready to fire!" Situ Lan reported loudly. She was not only in charge of her special operations team but also assisting Old Jin in coordinating the fifty million soldiers across the four-thousand-mile wall.
"Fire!" Old Jin roared.
"Boom!"
Full firepower was unleashed!
